The Annie Cafe & Bar

It has been a long time since the original Cafe Annie closed and I was hoping that this version would bring back something close to the original. But it definitely did not. Food is more casual and about as expected for a generic restaurant like this, but nothing special. The real problem was the service. It was never clear who was supposed to be taking care of us, and after sitting with menus for quite a while, we had to actively ask someone to take our wine order. The exact same process repeated for our main order. Although the deliver of the food and desert was OK, the overall process was frustrating.
Someone has told the chef to tone down the spice of the food
I liked the spice and flavor of the old recipes
The jalapeño grits were great
Tostados needed the omph
Very nice, will return.
We were celebrating two birthdays in our group of three women. The food is as good as it ever was and the service flawless (Arturo). While I loved the former decor in Café Annie, the new bright, light atmosphere was very pleasant. We had the best time, we all loved the food, and Arturo went above and beyond.
We decided to go there to try the rabbit. Wow! So worth the drive, it was delicious. Everything was really outstanding. We were there for a very early dinner (actually our late lunch), was e were the only table for like 30 minutes and everyone was very attentive. We will definitely go back very soon!
I miss old RDG!
The food was wonderful. Restaurant was beautifully decorated. Only complaint was the noise level. For a four top, it was loud to the point that we could not hear the person that was diagonal from us. It's a new restaurant and based on how well everything went, I'm sure they will add something to help with the noise level in the near future.
i celebrated my birthday on Saturday over dinner with my wife. Everything was absolutely perfect. What helped was the personal attention from Craig who we knew as one of the managers from B&B Butcher. Our waiter was attentive and we were never pressed to order which we did once we were good and ready. For openers my wife and i had a glass of sparkling chardonnay followed by a Zinfandel that i had never tried before, so great work on the part of the Sommelier as I did not give her much to work with regarding my wine choice for dinner. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions, or any occasion, for that matter. It was good to see the clientele well turned out dress-wise and not in sloppy jeans and t-shirts. I believe that the restaurant has a dress code but i am not 100% sure. If they do i fully support this rule...……….
Great ambiance, so many food options that sounded tempting. Service was outstanding!
The new neighborhood restaurant for over 50 year olds! Loved the food and service. Great for a date night or with a small group.
GH. 59 year old female.
We had the chicken Paillard and the tuna lunch which were both delicious. As well, our server was excellent. The baguette bread was also very good and the chocolate cake desert was delicious.
The food and service were excellent!!
I went there to meet a family member new to town. Nice evening, great time visiting and talking over drinks and dinner. Fantastic venue for reestablishing family bonds. Reconnected with my cousin and the waiter knew when to let us visit, when to refill our drinks and when to offer suggestions for dessert. Such a warm happy establishment. Thanks for a memorable night ‘
I was in from out of town; friends took me here. Loved it. Great cocktail menu. Amazing dinner menu. Sophisticated yet accessible decor. Good location and easy valet parking. Loved it -- will be back and would recommend.
Excellent Service by Eddie and other support personnel.
Fantastic ! Delicious ! So inviting and engaging. Staff is warm and approachable . Tasty dishes are out of this world delicious. Truly , each appetizer and entrée was a piece of art. Lovely presentation, appealing aromas and I just remembered, the savory desserts. I ordered extra desserts just to take home and enjoy later. Impressive decor w super comfy seats.
We are new to the area and I found this restaurant via google search and decided to take a chance to celebrate our anniversary! Definitely older crowd which is nice. Elegant but not stuffy. Service also took their time which I loved not feeling rushed! Overall I was very happy and would return.
Dining at their wonderful bar is the way to go If you want a very lively experience. The place is nothing like it used to be when it was Cafe Annie. We went and were able sit at the bar to watch the beginning of the astro's game and are bartenders Jose Luis and Andress were attentive and awesome. It's shout out to Cara who is the bar manager there and helped us secure good seats at the bar. The bar is huge. The food was terrific. A great menu with lots of things to choose from. Add this to your list of fun places to dine with great food. Their downstairs will be opening up soon.
BUT, the new redesign has gone from dark, soothing, great for a conversation to LOUD and bright...and hard to hear (and I'm don't have hearing problems). The clientele also seems to have shifted from the middle-aged and older Tanglewood, Memorial, River Oaks patrons to younger groups that like to have a good time...loudly.
I had to ask to have my table moved because the one next to us was painfully loud. Once we got to a better table, I saw a woman get up from her table and go ask another table to keep it down.
When I mentioned this to the maitre'd, his response was "That's how we like it...." To each his own.
Food & service was outstanding. The bar area is very loud. Dining area is a bit noisy as well but not to the extreme as the bar. We asked for a table tucked in a corner which definitely was the right choice for an intimate dinner.
Service slow, no soup spoons brought with soup
Mushroom soup ok, not much taste
Love new interiors
Red snapper dish needed seasoning but overall good experience
Recently re-opened under new management the space has been updated. We ate on the patio and it was very pleasant. Our server was very attentive to our demands after a bit of a slow start. The menu is a mix of new items and Cafe Annie standbys. All dishes were well prepared. Portions were more than adequate. The wine list is modest but caters to a reasonable range of styles and prices consistent with the overall price of the restaurant.
Fantastic brunch !!! We totally enjoyed everything
Look forward to a return visit !
Many old favorites
Very well prepared
Great bar and wines
Will definitely return
We went to The Annie for a very important birthday celebration. First of all the food was excellent...reminded me of the food at the original Cafe Annie on Westheimer years and years ago. However, the evening was marred by two issues...1. the noise level at The Annie is off the charts. For a high end restaurant, I was amazed there was absolutely no sound abatement / sound proofing. You could not hear anyone at your table when they spoke. 2. the wait staff are stretched too thin. We were constantly looking for our waiter who seemed to be in the kitchen at all times. We had waited so long for everything that we decided to skip coffee and deserts and go elsewhere for that. The look of the restaurant was ok but it seemed as if they had opened the new and improved Cafe Annie before finishing the interior design/build out.
We had a great time. The energy ebbed and flowed while we there very appropriately. We had a party of 8 and they put us at a round table that was perfect for conversation. ( i don't like rectangular tables for large groups.) The food was good. The service was great. All in all a wonderful experience.
After renovation, the place is looking a litle bit more modern.
The service is superb and the food is nice with some tones of Tex Mex
Has lost its charm. Very mediocre menu as well as wine list
Loved the food. A little noisy!
We like the remodel particularly the mural in the main dining room. The bar area is very nice. My guess is the decor is modern, french with a touch of New Orleans style. In any event, the decor is lovely.
Food was as good as it was at RDG, but the ambiance has changed quite a bit. Too crowded with too many tables, so noisy it was hard to have a conversation. We loved RDG, but the new version is just trying way too hard to be a hot spot. It's a shame to lose the old place.
Noise higher that anticipated. Some sauces not much southwestern flavor. Lamb chops excellent. Duck breast bland and a bit tough. Service was tremendous both wait staff and valet.
The food was very good. I wasn't a complete fan of the redfish on the halfshell, but the pasta dish with shrimp sausage won me over!
Excellent food! Excellent service. Love the new place. Big improvement.
Love the bar tenders and the manager of cafe annie
Such a beautiful new space and many of the wonderful staff of the former Cafe Annie/RDG days! Houston, we have a WINNER!!
I came here with my team from work. Overall, loved the ambiance and the food. The restaurant staff went out of their way to be hospitable from the second we walked in the door. However, our server did not seem very knowledgeable about the menu (couldn’t answer our questions about what certain dishes were / what was in them) and our service was very slow (2.5 hour dinner).
This restaurant was recently reopened, so I’m sure they will work out the kinks soon.
I’ve been an Annie girl for years. I absolutely love the new rendition. The food is great snd the space is light and fresh. Wonderful!
Thanks for leaving us such a wonderful review. We hope to see you again soon!
Homemade pasta is a must try. Cute place.
