Oyster Bar
Thank you for booking with us at The Anchovy Bar! We are a wine and seafood bar that specializes in West Coast oysters, small fish and sustainably raised shellfish. We work with small producers that favor traditional and antique processes with origin stories that matter and inspire.

Due to limited space and for the safety of all, we ask our guests to dine within 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Tables will be held for 15 minutes after the reservation time, at which point we will make the table available to our waitlist. We are currently offering outdoor seating and limited indoor seating (noted as Standard Seating). Make sure to dress for the ever-changing San Francisco weather!

In order to best take care of our guests and team we ask everyone to keep masks on while not actively eating or drinking indoors or when going to the restroom. If you are feeling less than your best we do ask that you reach out about your reservation, we will gladly find a time to reschedule!

The food was very good, but not all at the same level. Next time I will skip a couple things I ordered and try something else.

OK, but not great:
Roasted Cauliflower

Lastly it would have been great if they gave us a few bread pieces to go with the anchovies.

Delish, decadent, spot on! As always a great treat and will keep coming back. The bone marrow stew was the star this afternoon, but the butter/potatoes, clams, oysters, boquerones were all a great way to enjoy a lovely afternoon in a wonderful space.

If you're looking for a fun Sunday afternoon soiree, this is your spot. Loved a 3:00pm reservation... Staff was kind, knowledgable and accommodating. Wine selections well thought out and tailored to the menu. Food was innovative and delicious. Dessert a plus and even Andytown coffee hit the spot!

What a great meal! An amazing evening for our taste buds for sure with great service as well! We enjoyed the Boquerones (sardines), Broiled Hog Island Oysters, Bellwether Crescenza & English Peas, Wagon Wheel Cheese Chip Dip, Sardine & Kimchee Pancake and for dessert, Shiso Semifreddo.......All Fabulous! Every dish we ordered at Anchovy Bar was an absolute delight and their wine and drinks menu is beautifully curated. It was a chilly windy night, but their outdoor dining set up kept us cozy and warm with an abundance of heat lamps and protection from the elements. Every aspect of our meal was perfect, but our server really drove the experience over the top— she clearly took so much pride in the restaurant and was very knowledgeable about the menu and dishes. After a year of eating most of our meals at home, she is the perfect reminder of what makes the dining-out experience so special. Anchovy Bar is lucky to have her!

Outstanding! Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious: boquerones, salt-cured anchovies with crostini and various sauces and toppings, and fantastic fresh oysters were a great way to start. The jammy deviled eggs, Caesar style, come buried under a shower of grated Parmesan, with anchovy, croutons and olive oil. Dig in with a spoon for the best deviled eggs you ever had. Small golden potatoes with two whipped butters ( nori and smoked cod roe) are perfectly simple and addictive. The seafood stew blew us away with its heady mix of preserved lemon, cinnamon, coriander and, no doubt, other spices. Plump mussels, clams, squid, tiny bay shrimp and other seafood were fresh and remarkably tasty and the complex flavors of the sauce kept us dipping our spoons in for more.

The wine selection is unique and interesting. We had fun ordering by the glass with each course - and they make a mean Negroni with smoky bitters and hand-cut ice. Rhubarb, pistachio, balsamic semifreddo was the perfect conclusion to our meal. Staff and servers were gracious, friendly, professional and knowledgeable. A perfect re-entry into post-pandemic dining.

A bit of San Francisco, a bit of Spain. The eponymous fish is featured but there is so much more. Smoked albacore, duck schnitzel and wide range wine list has us ready to return to try more. A fun casual place.

Fantastic experience. The head chef was in the floor and attentive to customers. He had recommendations for me on anchovy dishes, appetizers, and dessert. Food was excellent and a two good wines.

i've worked in restaurants my entire adult life. I always say I work in the hospitality industry. Well, I did not have a hospitable experience at Anchovy Bar. We were practically pushed out of our table before we could finish our entrees. No chance for a last glass of wine, no chance for dessert. They might as well have said "get out" . Server didn't know basic things about the menu, oysters were shucked by a novice. I really wanted to like this place and for the most part the food was very good. All of it soured by the way were we pushed out to make space for them to make more money. Suggestion, book fewer reservations so that the tables you do have don't feel so foolish for deciding to dine with you. Shame on you guys.

Loved our lunch at The Anchovy Bar! The presentation of every dish was excellent and the flavors were simple yet, layered and paired so well together. Our server made great recommendations - definitely try to Native Boquerones and some of the seafood dishes. I enjoyed being able to sit outside on a sunny afternoon, but the street is a bit of a wind tunnel so do bring layers though the heat lamps help a lot! Can't wait to return and try more dishes on the menu!

Worst service I've ever experienced. Extremely rude hostess (worked on 05/16/2021 @ 5pm). Didn't even let me finish my sentence when I was trying to talk to her about possible sitting arrangement even though I had a reservation for two. The one and only offer she had is for us to leave. Learn proper customer service please!

all the food was absolutely insane. the local boquerones are one of the best things I've ever eaten, and when I die you can bury me under a mountain of parmesan clutching that deviled egg. the servers and staff were all so sweet and helpful (our server randi recommended the most perfect wine), and the space is gorgeous. can't wait to come back!

Most of the dishes were excellent. We loved the anchovy starter and what the server suggested for apps. The only dish that disappointed us was the cod roe and potatoes. It was just steamed potatoes and a cod flavored cream cheese. I wish we chose something different for the money that was spent. We could have made that at home a quarter of the price.

Fabulous! Service was warm and welcoming. Stellar presentation. The signature anchovies were the best bite. We wanted to relive our trip to San Sebastián so having bites at The Red Window and then dinner at Anchovy bar was perfect.

Small plates are exceedingly tasty, but quite expensive. The interior of the restaurant was ugly however, which detracted from the overall experience. Dim, dirty colors, proletariat style tables and chairs, nothing pretty or luxurious, lots of hard surfaces and harsh lighting. It's hard to really enjoy the wonderful food in such an unappealing environment.
