A traditional country pub with a warm welcome, The Anchor Inn offers a fine selection of cask ales and fresh, home-cooked food. Set in the beautiful village of Nayland, open fires and a cosy atmosphere make the Anchor a wonderful winter bolthole, and the banks of the River Stour provide glorious al fresco dining throughout the summer months.

Lovely setting but food was average. Had a Caesar Salad which was nice but significantly smaller than the same meal earlier in the week. We sat outside which was lovely apart from the table having dried on food on it.

Good food. Mains a fair price but desserts were small and overpriced. Table booked for 6.30 however some of the party got caught in the Orwell bridge and Ed Sheeran traffic which was causing chaos in Ipswich. First asked where the rest of the party was at 6.34 and again at 7 even though we explained our predicament. Very unsympathetic staff who basically told us we ‘must order by 7 as another big table due in at 8’ (plenty of room outside with many empty tables. This put unnecessary stress on the party and somewhat spoiled what otherwise was a pleasant evening.

All good, save for drinkers being seated between us and the river. We haven't experienced this with you before - and it is a significant detraction from the experience. i should suggest the experiment is discontinued - as pointed out to Becky.

We came for the first time for my husbands birthday. We were greeted by very friendly staff, although it was hot they did very well not letting that affect the level of service. Very attentive on drinks and the food was delicious. Will look forward to returning!

Lovely venue with lots of outside tables not picnic benches. Good young smiling staff . Small Ceasar salad was not small but large a large one was enormous.

Food was awful worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. Beef was tough and overcooked, potatoes hard could hardly cut them, given tiny portion of veg for three people. Asked for mint and mustard which never arrived so when we chased it up waitress said you have to go and get it yourself. We said the waitress never told us that to which she replied ‘ I am sure she did as she is an experienced waitress’!! Overpriced for poor quality food. Asked for glass of water and was told you have to go up and get it yourself? Would not recommend
