Wonderful atmosphere! Beautiful place with good food!
I came in here on my birthday and had a brand new waitress. We got the sparkling tea so it includes tea and rose. She tried to take our tea glasses away and we explained we wanted tea as well as included in the afternoon tea. She disappeared for majority of the 2 hours we were there. The desserts were average and I found a piece of plastic in the chocolate cake so I assume they are not made on-site.
I had made a note that is was my birthday but that was never mentioned. It is beautiful inside but the staff were not helpful and didnt seem to want to be there. We had to go to the bar to get our bill since the waitress wasn't around and was informed she had to bring it. I won't be back for afternoon tea.
The Allis is the perfect place to catch up with old friends or have a meeting. The atmosphere is laid back but elegant. The menu is well devised by not overwhelming. Tea Time is a must at The Allis!
The upstairs is to me very beautifully decorated. I appreciated the manager letting us seat up there in spite of being told that area was closed when we arrived.
The menu was very limited. I was bringing with me an international colleague and felt bad about the very few choices on the menu.
Lamb meatballs, as always, are very good. Burgers were mediocre, and the same with the chopped salad...charcuterie tray was nice. The chocolate chip cookies were very good.
Drinks looked and tasted great.
I did not get a detailed bill, which was weird by since I didn’t want my colleague to get involved in paying I didn’t ask for it. But it was strange that only my credit card bill came when Juan Carlos brought me the signing slip.
Great ambiance and delicious food, always a wonderful experience! However, service was not on point. The team was not very attentive and we were always asking (sometimes more than once) for things they should have anticipated.
Food is average. Service is somewhat bad, a waitress has never came back to check or asked how the food. She came when taking an order and giving us a check. Not worth for money. I can find better food and service.
Could be great, but wasn't quite.
Ambiance: I love the space and the feel. However, I was with 2 others who are over 6-feet-tall, and the chairs we were seated at were far too low for tall people.
Food and bev: They were out of draft cider and didn't have any alternative ciders. They were out of a particular vodka and one ingredient of a featured cocktail.
Service: We ordered 3 appetizers, 2 salads, and 2 entrees, all to share. The appetizers and salads all came at once - - ridiculous. And we had 5 meatballs and 3 pieces of toast for 4 people - - should have been easy to adjust.
BTW: We also had pedicures at the Cowshed, which is part of the Soho, and they were out of any white nail polish, needed for a French pedicure.
The whole operation seems very poorly managed. Should be better for the price, I think.
Horrible service, couldn't even get sat for 15 minutes despite having a reservation and being stared at by 3 servers. Felt like we were bothering them the minute we walked in, was rudely sat down eventually, but by then we had enough and just left.
Perfect brunch spot. Low key and quiet as well.
Wonderful setting and great food!
Service was slow and at times inattentive. The food lacked imagination and was rather bland. Overall, an OK experience.
We’ve been here several times and it has always been a relaxing and pleasant experience. This last time, we came for dinner at 8:30 on a Friday night and there was a house DJ absolutely blasting music in the upstairs (this must be new? I love house music but I also love being able to hear my partner talk when we’re out to dinner). We couldn’t hear each other talk from across the table and both tables beside us were also having similarly negative experiences.
ambiance is beautiful, you would think you're walking into a restaurant with $60+ main dishes, yet much cheaper meals than that. service is create, bars upstairs had fun energy. Altogether, an amazing restaurant.
Gret ambience, a little too noisy but overall great service and the food was very good. We ordered the burgers, steak frites and the chicken. Will definitely be back soon. I love the concept of the restaurant.
I had high hopes for this place because of great reviews. Why this place got anything above a 2 star is beyond me!!! My mother and I had a TERRIBLE time here with serious lack of service, the poor quality of afternoon tea and food.
First of all, I indicated that we were doing Mother’s day couple of days late So I requested a private, good table for tea on the phone as well as on Open Table.
We had a reservation at 2:30, so we got to Allis around 2:22. No one was available at the front, and 3 servers were all passing us by and just staring for about 10 minutes. The bell desk agent at the Soho House stepped in and said “you know, by now, it’s probably good idea to just choose your own seating.” I said I have a afternoon tea reserved, and had to hail down a server. She proceeded to ask for my name, checked it on the tablet, and proceeded to give me a lunch menu.
I told her we are there for Afternoon tea, and she goes “oh” and gets new menus. Then she asks me to wait to have the table prepped. This was now about 15 min after our arrival. There were hardly any people, and only 2 tables of 1-2 people on the first floor eating or drinking. Few others were just lounging with their laptops (so, no. They were NOT busy).
Then we were escorted upstairs where we were seated right by the stairs. Not private, not cozy, and kind of dirty. Apparently there is some remodeling going on on the second floor, so the whole time we had to listen to banging, sawing, hammers, drills, etc. about 15 ft away from our table in front of their kitchen!!!!
We had to hail down a server, who didnt greet or come to us, order and never get our food, just our tea. Asked for our food and was only given for one person, then hail down a Manager who went to check and brought us the second person’s food after 25 minutes of the first one. Never refilled on any water or tea water, the food was dried up and gross, the tea was tea bag (yuck). We barely had 1/3 of the meal and asked for our check.
This was a great venue for afternoon tea, very comfortable without being at all stuffy. Really enjoyed and will be back.
Everyone was really nice and service was quick. We did stay for awhile and our server was so sweet along with the rest of the staff. We also showed up a bit late and they were so understanding and nice
Probably the best brunch/breakfast I have had....from menu selection, to presentation of the delicious food and drink on the beautiful plates/tableware, to the ambiance and historic décor to the beautiful light coming in through the floor to ceiling windows. Best recommendation and a must visit while in Chicago. We will definitely be back next time we are in the city!
Love this place for a unique start to the day. This place is a little gem ....
It is a pretty place to dine in, but that’s it. The food was just fine and definitely not worth the money. Me and my friend were arranged to sit next to each other on a double couch. Who would sit like this when you are having lunch with your friend? Overall, I was really disappointed after seeing all the good review online.
Awesome place to hang out with friends! Excellent people watching and amazingly attentive staff for how busy it was! The only thing is the noise level is high, so if you have any trouble hearing, this is not a great place at a busy time. On less busy times though it would be great for anyone! Can’t wait to go back!
The service was very sparse, which is usually fine, but I’ve never had it happen where no one comes to check on the table for over an hour. The food was great! My friend and I had salads and a mezze plate and it was delicious. Really nice and complex flavors. the cocktails were great—highly recommend the Eastern Standard. The vibe was great, the hostess was really accommodating and friendly, and she helped us find a table that would have enough space for us to work on our laptops. The service really messed it up for me honestly, especially as the restaurant wasn’t that busy... it’s a shame. I’ll be back because I like the coffee and drinks, but definitely won’t be among my first options.
Great experience, much better than my last experience at Allis. Service was amazing, prompt and friendly. Food was amazing and ambiance great as normal. Favorite spot to take clients!
The place is so beautiful. It has this industrialistic style, semi finished look. Upon entering the place, you’ll be greeted by the receptionist. Best to do a reservation online. We were seated upstairs. It’s a little dark compared downstairs but it’s still a good vibe. There’s 5 in our group. Food is superb!! I ordered Salmon Bagel, super super good! Huge portion. Smoked salmon is just right-not too salty, capers is good, i had the everything bagel. Pickled onion and pickles blend well with the rest. It’s actually good for 2-3 people. Huge portion really and super super good:) My partner ordered french toast, super soft. The rest of the group ordered kale salad, egg sandwich and burger. We enjoyed the rest of our time there chatting and having a good time:) Downstairs, it’s more for cocktails and chitchat. Either way, both floors were awesome. I didn’t expect that the place is nothing more than just it’s beautiful decor. Food-flavor, plating, price was awesome as well! I highly recommend this place! You should book now!!
Place is great. Awesome vibe and decor.
So we ordered appetizers and drinks. And the server really never returned for us to get entrees. After about an hour of enjoying the remainder of our cocktails we paid and headed to another restaurant for dinner. Still a great place!
Visiting out of town. Excellent restaurant and atmosphere!
Beautiful decor, table was lit by candlelight. Cute date spot for small bites and good drinks.
Everything was fine until my date arrived, and he did not like the table. We were told we could not move upstairs even though the place was not busy. We never received the free cookies we were promised by booking through open table. The food took a very long time to arrive and was cold. A large table of ladies came and starting drinking a lot of wine, they were so loud and we would have liked to move away from them.
The food and ambience are great, the service unfortunately was extremely slow although there were hardly any guests.
This place is amazing! Great food and service!
Traditional High Tea with a twist...Unique atmosphere; knowledgeable, pleasant service; good food items (ample servings).
Great scene -- laid back environment for a fashionable crowd. Great for us girls! Excellent craft cocktails and munchies, though not all tables would be easy to eat a full meal, if that's what you are looking for. In fact, with a hard to pin down waiter and great drinks, our dinner turned into just cocktails and conversation. Too bad for the restaurant!
Great experience and food. Service was good.
THE TABLE WAS SOOOO SITCKY AND DURTY THAT MY JACKET WS STICKING TO IT....CLEAN THE PLACE UP!!!
Absolutely loved this spot, great vibe and service. Food portions are big.
Went in for pre-dinner cocktails, great service and drinks. Would definitely be back for the awesome look of the place and the people that work there.
Great cocktails. The buratta was very god too. The burger was not cooked to the right temp and the other dishes were just okay. The ambiance is really cool and the cocktails were very tasty though!
