   I love this pub! It's so cosy with a well stocked bar. Open fire in the winter and a lovely beer garden in the summer. The staff are always welcoming and friendly.

   Food was fine but pricey. 23 quid for a beef roast. Service was a big let down. Arrived having booked my table for 17:30 to be told by a bemused waitress that the kitchen was closed. She said she'd check and came back and said she'd be able to accommodate us. She couldn't really find where we should sit. Eventually the only seat was in an over lit area with tired decor. She came and sprayed the table with disinfectant. We had to ask if we were served at table or bar, and at the end had to ask if we paid at bar or if they'd bring the bill to table. We weren't offered a desert menu. Generally not very attentive service and had the feel of them winding it down and not particularly wanting us to be there.

   We popped to the Alex for a relaxed Sunday Roast and we were not disappointed. A lovely atmosphere in the bar area, which continued into the restaurant seating which also had a roaring fire. The staff were friendly, chatty and served us well. The food was great, my sous vide leg of lamb was moist and delicate, served with a rustic mint jelly that I couldn't get enough off. The price was a little steep, but not too bad, the only real negative was the toilet - which I think needs to be the very top of the list for next improvements.

   Unfortunately your web service confirmed the booking but when we arrived it was closed for a private party. We had to make last minute reservation at the Maynard and return just for a drink later.

   We dined here for New Year' eve dinner The Alex is a pretty local pub All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and whilst we did have to wait , longer than we felt was okay, for our plates to be cleared and dessert orders placed, we appreciated it was a busy evening in the bar. Great cocktails, nice mains, but really disappointing trio of desserts, felt they had been in the fridge far too long, with a shop bought shortbread biscuit Overall we had a pleasant evening

   Shame the Christmas menu hadn't kicked in yet as it was a festive night out but otherwise excellent all round.

   Really lovely pub restaurant, nice fire, perfect for a winters day. Food (all had roasts) was delicious although I think the men on our table would have liked an extra potato or two and some green veg among the seasonal vegetables.

   Terrible service! The staff were offhand and never came to serve us. With only one vegetarian option on the whole menu and the non-existent service, we walked out and found somewhere else to eat.

   The food was good, the portions were generous but the waiting staff were very inattentive and had to be asked to clear the table when we had finished our meal and were sitting around the table chatting. Overall good food but poor service.

    When we arrived for Sunday lunch it was surprisingly empty but filled up quickly. Food was really great and service good, the bar girls were really helpful . Definitely recommend!
