. Mostly very attentiveand always polite service. Good food, interesting preparations. Class restaurant in a small town
The Alcove is a true treat! Incredible menu - elegant and comfortable setting- great service and nourishing in every sense of the word - the Pecan crusted trout - with brown butter - is beyond amazing. And if your looking for a cocktail that is distinctive and tasty - I recommend the ‘General Washington’ - hand crafted and certain to get your patriotic impulses revved up and ready. Check it out - worth a road trip to this recently revitalized downtown Mt. Vernon destination.
The food and service was outstanding, dining for six, a quite room, everything was spot on. Dinner with friends of over 50 years. Thanks for a wonderful experience. The remodel and the food are great.
You get what you pay for. Outstanding dishes, nice atmosphere, great service.
Our first time there and will be going back. Plenty of food and very good.
Everything was fantastic. Food, service and decor are outstanding. A hidden little gem in Mt Vernon OH.
Our fourth visit and it never disappoints. Excellent service, great food and it’s not the big city prices.
The Alcove is always a lovely place to dine! Thank you for the excellent food and service!
We love The Alcove. Anytime we can work in a visit we do. This occasion we were driving back from Cleveland. My 16 year old daughter loves the chicken sandwich. My husband tried the General Washington specialty drink and may now be a converted rye drinker. Always a delicious meal.
Beautiful decor; excellent, friendly staff, high quality, delicious food
A friend and I ate there two nights in a row in late July. Intimate atmosphere in the bar room or at a table. The food was superb and the service was excellent. A very nice addition to Mount Vernon. I live in PA but have family in the area so I will be eating here a few times a year.
We had a lovely meal. They took too long to bring out our main course but said sorry with a nice cup of coffee. It was a lovely find. We enjoyed ourselves
Excellent rolls, delicious crisp cracker with the Caesar salad! Nice trout, but the spinach and squash was the standout- delicious!
Made reservations at the Alcove for my Fiancee's Birthday, with request of it being a birthday occasion and asked for a special evening. Neither of us had dined there before and we were extremely pleased from being seated until I paid my bill. The waiter actually had read my special request and wished my Fiancee a Happy Birthday shortly after pouring our table waters. The ambiance is incredible and our meals were exquisite. It was also very nice to see and have a manager ask every patron of how their evening is and ask of our meals and service. It was a incredible dining experience and I know we will be back, because you actually get what you pay for.
Thank you Alcove
Our service was an after thought to other parties around us. We have visited for lunch several times and dinners. This experience was a disappointment.
To my point, the waiter apologized each time he returned to our table for the delay and lack of attention. We live 45 minutes away...not sure to return.
This was our second time at this restaurant. Unfortunately we most likely wont be back. The food was greasy , as if drenched in butter.
Our second time there and it was just as good as the first. We had the Twin filets (could have been hotter) very tasy and tender. Husband had Rib eye steak also tender and tasty. Their onion soup is excellent. Shrimp cocktail very nice. Deserts were good. I thought there should have been more custard in the crème Brule, tasty but not enough. Our friends enjoyed their dinners also. The service was very good and I like how they all work as a team. A great evening - Good Food Good Friends and
We made our reservations based on the recommendation of The Open Table ranking The Alcove one of Ohio's top 10 restaurants. It did not disappoint. The cauliflower vegatarian entree was delicious The portions were perfect to satisfy and not too filling.
The Alcove was perfect. Start to finish. Steaks cooked right. Beer cold wine chilled. Sides were fabulous. Desert was awesome. The setting isn’t what I expected for a Friday night at 6pm, I expected a super busy loud hectic crowd. Instead it was soft lighting and relaxed. I do recommend taking a sweater or sweatshirt because they keep it cool inside. My wife was chilly, I liked it since it was 90 outside. This place is a little more pricey then the local chain restaurants but it blows them out of the water too. Pay for what you get. Can’t say enough good about our experience. We will be back!
Second time at the Alcove in 2 weeks. The service the second time was slow. Long wait for food. The waitress seemed MIA most of the evening.
Great service. Excellent food. Something in the menu for everyone. Save room for dessert!
This is our favorite restaurant when we visit Mt. Vernon. The decor is just lovely and our meals are always so delicious.
This was our first visit and we were very impressed!
Worst prime rib I have ever had. Skin like blubber. Manager seemed to not care at all. Won't go back...much better and cheaper restaurants in town.
The food was a great surprise. The wine was not up to par. I would have preferred in that formal atmosphere to have adults as host and hostess, rather than the uncomfortable looking kids they had on duty.
I have dined here 5-6 times over the last year. We have had excellent meals. I travel and eat out a lot. This restaurant is in the top 5 of my all time favorites.
Very good food. Oysters on the half shell, outstanding. Scallops to die for. Shrimp linguini great and huge portion
My wife and I are in town for business. We asked about fine dining the first day we arrived. The Alcove was highly recommended. We finally had enough time to enjoy a night out. We made a reservation a few hours ahead to make sure we would have a table. The gentleman who greeted and seated us was very polite. The decor was inviting. Right off my wife remarked on how cold it was to our server. We ordered, and my wife again commented on the temperature of the room. Another couple arrived and they were seated right next to us even though the room was empty. We couldn't help overhear the wife send her husband to get her a sweater from their car as she said it was cold. The wife ordered drinks and told her server her husband went to get her wrap as it was very cold.
When our server came to take away our salad plates, my wife told her again she was freezing. My wife asked if we could move elsewhere. The server replied, "I envy you, I'm burning up in here!" My wife said we should just leave and then the server finally offered to see if they could turn the air conditioning down. Then my wife wanted to leave. It was upsetting that someone who was being paid to be there was comparing our situation to hers. We were paying to be there. We should have a fair expectation of comfort.
We got up and went to the front to ask for a bill for our salads and the glasses of wine we never finished. He said he would get our server. The server came to the front said our food was about to be out so we needed to stay and eat. She was so concerned we were putting them out because our dinner was almost prepared. No concern for us having to sit there freezing, my wife's nose running as she shivered. The server then said we should wait and take our dinner to go. It hit us the server was more concerned she be compensated for the meal. We asked for the manager. Brea was kind and we were finally allowed to leave.
This was a very unfortunate experience. If the food is great we will never know.
Food and service were excellent, however, experience was ruined because we were seated at a round table that was in front of the air conditioner vent. The candle for the butter for my lobsters couldn’t even stay lit due to the cold breeze.
Had heard a lot of good things about the Alcove, but was a little skeptical just the same. Food was very good, lots of nice choices, especially liked that they had both full meals, but also sandwiches and lighter options as well. Prices were very reasonable, nice that salads and sides not priced ala carte. Decent wine list with nice variety of pricing and server and hostess very attentive, gave us great service. Will definitely be back!
This was my first time back to the Alcove since it was remodeled. You can certainly see the influence of Cameron Mitchell on food quality and service. I will certainly be back soon.
Great food. Great service. Worth the drive, and I cannot wait do visit again. How did I miss this restaurant before?
Lovely brunch for Father’s Day.
We had brunch and our meal was awesome! Our server, Austin, was very attentive and did an excellent job.
Wow! Thoroughly impressed.
Fantastic food and friendly service. Everyone made you feel like you were the only patrons in the restaurant.
Great place to have dinner!!!
Excellent food and our server was outstanding!
Once again The Alcove surpassed all my expectations. The oysters on the half shell were fresh and delicious. I had the prime rib chili for one of my sides and it was awesome. I also had the 16 oz prime rib that was cooked to perfection and so very tender. My wife’s filet mignon was also cooked the way she likes it and was perfect. We were celebrating my wife’s birthday so the threw in a free desert, my wife chose the creme brûlée and it was great. Love this place, it’s the best restaurant around
