Always delicious food at The Alcove. Wonderful combinations and fresh food served beautifully. Service is wonderful - one of our favorite restaurants.
This is GO place if you want to have a special memory with your loved ones.
The food was excellent but the service was slow and indifferent. They could care less we were spending so much money for small delicious portions. A lot of other places would love and appreciate an expenditure of $180 for three people. Not here.
Excellent Food. However, if you enter via the train station alcove on Maple, it is a dark area and there were some gang bangers there stoned out of their minds. they approached the car and followed the couple we met, to the restaurant. It seems there is an entrance on the other side and I would suggest using that if you see the wrong crowd in front. Called police and when finished dinner, they were gone but owner says a constant problem. Would not return soon because of that problem
Delightful evening. Superb food - everyone loved the walleye! And the rack of lamb was a winner as well. The turtle pie sundae topped off the night.
Good food, good service, nice room. It’s nice to be in a restaurant where I can hear myself think, let alone my dining companion talk. Oddly, I ordered an Old Fashion that was flavorless, so I can’t vouch for the bar when it comes to mixed drinks.
The service was pleasant and professional. The food was really excellent. The portions were small for the price point, in my opinion. For example, a halibut entree included an approximately 3 oz. piece of fish for $42.00. To be fait, the dish was accompanies by a few pieces of lobster ravioli and a delicious saffron sauce, so every bite was tasty!
Thank you for the review. Our team hopes you come back soon. The Alcove Team
A really lovely meal- we loved the renovations from the old Chef's Station space. The mussels were a little dry, and the halibut a touch overcooked (as were the shrimp that came with it), and it's clear that they're a bit understaffed (which might have something to do with the food being a little off center). But my duck was lovely, as was the goat cheese tart, and the wine was really nice as well. It was a nice relaxing evening.
Hi Noara, Thank you for your review, and sharing your experience with us. As a team, we look forward to serving you again. Thank you, The Alcove Team
Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and delicious! Service was impeccable. Alcove is a favorite we return to often!
Thank you for joining us, RickE. So happy to hear you were very happy with the presentation, and your meal. We look forward to having you join us again. The Alcove Team
As always - outstanding food, nice ambience. We always go to Alcove for special occasions, it is expensive, but worth every dollar!
HI Marina, Our team continues to strive the make each patron's experience special. Thank you for the review. The Alcove Team
This was one of the best overall meals I've had. Every food item from appetizer to entree and dessert was amazing. Getting to the restaurant was a walk through an old viaduct, which made me wonder what it would be like. However once inside, the restaurant's decor was very elegant. Great for a date night or simply to enjoy a great meal.
Was denied entry due to restaurant “lacking staff.”
A great find! My son had the risotto while I enjoyed the halibut! Both were well prepared. Will return the next time we are in Evanston.
This was our second visit to alcove. I had ordered the hell a bit prior and although the meal was excellent the serving size was 1/3 what I had prior. The wine took forever to be delivered and opened and it’s at room temperature rather than slightly chilled.
They clearly need more folks to help in the dining room because they are short staffed. We also we’re celebrating a very special birthday with our close friend and normally you would bring a piece of cake with a candle etc. the server did not listen well. That was disappointing. I do not believe we will be returning to alcove
We dined on the patio, which is why I described the noise level as moderate. Inside the atmosphere was conversation-friendly.
We thought the menu was very nice. The food preparation and service measured up.
The Alcove Evanston was the perfect place for our special occasion.
This was the first time my friend and I ate at The Alcove. We ate at Chef's Station before and liked their food. But, we think the food at The Alcove is exceptional. I had a drink before dinner - the German Riesling which tasted very good. We shared the Lamb Meatball appetizer which we thought was the best we've ever had. We shared two entrees - the Rack of Lamb and the Halibut. Both were excellent. For dessert we shared the Peach Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream. This was also really good. We can't forget our server who was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. Everything was served in a timely fashion. We never felt rushed. We will definitely come back to The Alcove for dinner. This is an excellent restaurant in Evanston. You are missing a great dinner if you don't go to The Alcove.
As always, the menu is excellent and the dinner delicious.
I'm so glad that Alcove has survived COVID. I was a big fan of the restaurant when it was Chef's Station. The food continues to be inventive and beautifully presented. I had the halibut in a saffron beurre blanc. It was delicious. My friend raved about her pork tenderloin. The two women who joined me had never been to either Chef's Station or Alcove. They both enjoyed the restaurant immensely, so we'll be returning in a few weeks to celebrate another birthday. I think this is THE best fine dining restaurant in or around Evanston. If you want a setting that is quiet, elegant and visually beautiful, this is the place.
A delightful dinner. We enjoyed three different mains, all excellent. Reasonably priced wines.
The food is incredible. Chef obviously utilizes the farm to table concept. Great use of seasonal items. Honestly, every dish was great but two standouts were the Halibut with Maine Lobster Tortellini and the Tuna Tartare with Ginger and scallions. Our table of 6 ordered a wide variety of starters and entrees and every dish was beautiful to look at at perfectly executed. And, if they have the Grand Marnier souffle for dessert, don't miss it. The room is beautiful too. Contemporary, but warm and inviting. Elegant without being fussy. Service is informed and professional. I honestly think this has to be one of the best restaurants in Evanston, if not the best. And rivals anything in Chicago. We can't wait to go again and try every one of the dishes!
Food and service is consistently exceptional at The Alcove. Delicious fish / seafood entrees and fresh salads are my favorite items on the menu. Do not miss this place!!
The service was excellent! Out door setting was beautiful.
The food was superb , from appetizers , entree s and desserts .
Nice ambiance – indoor/outdoor dining. Quiet, Clean & soft music playing. Good drinks/food/service. We began our meal with our usual cocktails & then shared the Goat Cheese Beet Salad. For our dinner: Both had the Lamb Chops. When were you served a Sorbet to cleanse your palate after waiting for the next course ? They do that here.
We enjoyed our dinner, the ambiance & service.
Hi QTIPS, Thank you for dining with us. We are glad to hear you enjoyed the ambiance, drinks, and fare. We look forward to serving you again. Thank you, The Alcove Team
We've loved this dining gem since it was "Chefs Station". As always, every portion of our meal was outstanding. Although the menu offers a plethora of delicious options, I enjoyed the Tuna Tartare as an appetizer with the Duck for my entree. My husband loved his Heirloom Tomato salad and the Pork Tenderloin entree and all dishes were visually stunning. The service couldn't have been better too! With the newly redesigned interior, this was a dining experience that hit it out of the park for us!
Hi Syrah, Thank you for dining with us for many years. It truly gives us the pleasure to ensure each time you visit, as it is like your first dining with us. We look forward to serving you soon, The Alcove Team
Great, ambitious menu for Evanston that delivers. Nice service and wine.

If your looking for a 5 star quality which is away from the city. This is the place to be.Finding this place is just pure luck. The food were so so good. I would highly recommend it..
Thank you for the review. The Alcove Team
We have eaten here many times and the food has been outstanding always. The outdoor patio is lovely, and the service was very good even though they were short-staffed. Truly a gem.
Thank you for dining with us. It is a pleasure to serve you. As the weather changes from summer to the fall, we look forward to the weather change, fall leaves and blissful evenings. We hope to see you again, The Alcove Team
Everything was great. From the wine pours to the beet salad yo the pork loin and (maybe most amazingly) the peach tart this place was great.
We are so glad you had our season Beat Salad. It is certainly one of our favorite menu item along with the Peach Tart. Come again, as the Chef is enjoys to provide seasonal menu options. We'll see you soon. The Alcove Team
We loved the food! Amazing restaurant with exceptional service
Hi Julie, Thank you for dining with us at Alcove. Have a great day, The Alcove Team
Celebrated our 52 wedding anniversary at Alcove. Excellent food and (more rare in this day and age) excellent service. We ordered drinks which we also found top notch, Feel lucky that we are within walking distance of such a good restaurant!
The food was beyond delicious. I can't recommend The Alcove highly enough. Great for special occasion. Patio is very nice and so is the interior. The employees are just lovely.
Thank you, SallyT! The patio is always so nice.. so glad you enjoyed the ambience. We look forward to serving you in the future. The Alcove Evanston Team
We went there to celebrate my birthday. The waiter was excellent the food was delicious and the atmosphere was city like. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced fine dining.
Hi Amys - we strive for coolness in the city with a touch of urban life, with a splash of great fare! So glad you and your guest enjoyed a nice birthday celebration. Thank you for joining us, and we look forward to serving you again. The Alcove Evanston Team
We dine at The Alcove rather frequently and this visit was a little disappointing. Our table cloth was stained and it should have been obvious to the person placing it on the table that it should be retired. The service was slower than normal, but the food was excellent.
Just a little under their normal performance.
Hi James M, Thank you for sharing your visit experience with us at Alcove Evanston. It is always important learn how our team can improve. I am sorry you and your guest had to encounter the issues you did. I am glad to here the food was excellent. If you choose to dine with us again, upon reservation, please let Casey know we spoke and our team will make sure your next visit will be pleasant. Thank you, Linda
Our food was exceptional. Our server, a 20-year veteran---had half a mask on, nose rarely covered---shared that he was the only one on the floor for the night. He was busy. We had the special (beef tenderloin) and pork tenderloin, some lovely desserts (peach tart; banana pudding), and started with some apps. It was about $100/per person. It's pricey, but we would return. The Open Table menu is a bit different than what their in-person menu says, so there have been some tweaks/changes to it.
Thank you, Finney for your review. On behalf of our Chef and everyone here at Alcove Evanston we sincerely apologize for the unacceptable behavior by one of our team members. As the season change, so does the menu and the inventory at market, as we source daily to provide the freshest menu items. Please let us serve you again. Upon reservation, please ask for Casey, she will be more than happy to ensure a complimentary dessert, or two.
Service was a bit slow, perhaps because we were outside. The food was great, although, my duck was overcooked.
Hello Kathleen, I am sorry to hear about your duck being over cooked... and as we are continuing to learn about your needs, we are very sorry. Please join us again on the house and allow to remake your duck plate for you .. it is our upmost priority to ensure each patron experience is positive. Please feel free to ask for Casey during your visit. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon! Alcove - Evanston
I would highly recommend The Alcove--the outdoor patio is lovely; the service is terrific and the food was all delicious.

Always startlingly delicious, creative and satisfying. The chef is both talented and skilled. The service is prompt, friendly and professional. A gem in an unexpected location.
Thank you. Chef Elio is certainly talented and skilled.. and we thank you for allowing us to service you. Hope you come by again.
Wonderful dining experience. We ate outside. The food was wonderful. Service was great. A special meal that we truly enjoyed to celebrate our special occasion!
Hello Susiequeue, Wonderful to hear you celebrated your special occasion at Alcove Evanston. Thank you for the review, and we look forward to serving and celebrating with you again. The Alcove Evanston Team
Charming and well appointed interior. Everything we had was fantastic, the octopus was cooked perfectly and the mushroom risotto was the best we had had anywhere.
How wonderful to hear, Pinot Pedro! We do our best to ensure your experience is a delight. Thank you for the review.
Food was great, server lacked enthusiasm and could care less about our table. Didn’t ask for a cocktail refill, previously my husband and I always split a salad they always have done it in the kitchen per the waiters request this time a plate was slugged down along with the salad here ya go I found it tacky at a fine dining establishment. I can see that at Denny’s not here. My mom was delivered the wrong food I asked what did you order I saw it right away that it wasn’t lamb sure enough it was wrong even I asked when it was placed is that the lamb…yes sorry a seasoned server would be able to tell what a rack of lamb and pork tenderloin look like. Something was off this night. Normally everything is fabulous and it’s a relaxing perfect dinner. Also the remodeled restaurant is beautiful and has a great vibe so urban feeling glad to see the update.
