This is the most conversation friendly restaurant that we have ever been to. The food was superb! We had the special: skate with lobster tail, lobster mashed potatoes was the most delicious and memorable meal we’ve ever had. There were four of us, all loved their entrees. White tablecloth experience. It’s slightly hidden since it’s under the Metra, but very worth finding it!

Server was wonderful. The ambience was excellent overall however, it is located under an EL/train station, which makes it kind of unique. However, when we left, we did see a rat skitter by. I’m not saying the location as rats but train tracks do. It was a bit unsettling. But loved every other part of the night.

Second time we have had dinner here - such a lovely, elegant, quiet restaurant - perfect for special celebrations. Service was excellent and the food delicious. The prices are a bit high, especially for the portions, which are adequate but not overly plentiful. We will continue to come back for special occasions - it is a real find!

After many years, Alcove remains our go to restaurant in Evanston. Always excellent food and attentive service. This visit the noise level was higher than usual, but the quality of the food and service compensates for that. We indulged in the warm flourless cake for dessert. Superb! My/our only negative is that the chairs are too high for my short body. I'll stick to the banquettes in the future.

Thrilled to find a little gem tucked away near some music venues we enjoy. The ambience was fun, service friendly, and food truly memorable. Flavors and textures absolutely fantastic. Best foie gras I have had in the US (and I have sampled many). Octopus also had similar excellence of textures and flavors. Mains (a beef dish for one of us, branzino the other) were well delicious. Wines by the glass had lots of great options, and those I enjoyed paired really well. We'll be back!

The duck was great. Wine list was sparse but the Bordeaux we drank was so good we bought 6 bottles.I highly recommend the Alcove for an intimate dinner.

Every course we and our friends ordered was superb. And the drinks were also expertly made. The octopus and goat cheese tarts for appetizers were excellent, as was the rack of lamb, sea bass, and beef tenderloin entrees. And while the turtle sundae and lemon berry tart were both very good, the butterscotch honeycrisp apple bread pudding and goat cheesecake were absolutely divine! Our server was also very attentive, welcoming, and genuine. A wonderful dining experience.

Outdoor dining was spacious and despite being under the train tracks generally quiet. There weren't too many trains and they just stopped a minute or so when they came. Food was terrific and the menu is the perfect size and selection for everyone to find something they like. Service was "leisurely" but perfect for our four-top who were catching up with each other. Food came hot and was to everyone's liking. Hubby recommended the lamb and I had risotto which was excellent as well.

The Alcove never disappoints. Met well-traveled friends with sophisticated palates, one of whom had a number of allergy restrictions, the other night and our server and the kitchen took great care to make sure the restrictions were kept and the food was delicious as always. So were the cocktails and mocktails! Their reaction: “Best meal we’ve had in ages!” Thanks to the entire staff for making a reunion with special friends extra special indeed.

We did sit outside, so it was quiet. We were glad we weren't seated indoors... The inside of the restaurant was way too cold for our summer clothing. Why do restaurants do that? Food and service excellent as usual. I've always loved this place.

I am so glad to see that Alcove has become popular. People are realizing what a fantastic restaurant it is. The cooking is as fine as you can find in the Chicago area. Every dish is cooked perfectly, with wonderful seasonings and sauces. The service is very capable and attentive. Highly recommended!

The food tasted phenomenal, and the portion size was adequate. This was my 2nd time here, and this time, the goat cheesecake had a much milder flavor from the goat cheese. It was mainly present on the finish and very mild. That being said, I would order every dish I had again.

We have been to The Alcove before and it is still exceptional. I had a drink which was very good. My sister and I shared the beet salad which was also very good. I had the rack of lamb with vegetables and my sister had the halibut with vegetables. Both were excellent. For dessert we shared a chocolate souffle which the chef made special for us. It was really good. This was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Plus, our server Nick was very personable, professional and very attentive. Also, the busboy, who unfortunately I don't remember his name, was very friendly and very attentive to our needs. This is a restaurant one should definitely visit for a great meal and great service.

We went for a belated Father’s Day dinner and the food, service, vibe were all amazing. Loved the somewhat hidden entrance and the restaurant ambiance inside. We ordered escargot, lamb chops, and duck breast; everything was cooked to perfection and the sauce for each entree was unforgettably tasty. Hostess and waiter were very friendly and attentive. They wrote “Happy Father’s Day” on our goat cheesecake for us, which I thought was extra nice of them. They were also very accommodating for the six-month old baby that joined us. 10/10 would recommend and we can’t wait to go back!

This was truly the best food I have ever eaten, and my husband is a professional chef (he agrees with me 100% so it's okay lol). The food was on another level. It was so good that it's hard for me to describe. We ordered the tuna tartare, and I got the halibut and my husband had the lamb. Every dish was exceptional.
