The Ainsworth Ratings and Reviews
I booked a table to 7:30pm to watch a Knicks match. However, the recepcionist put us in a table far from TVs. I gently asked her to move us to another spot, but she was intransigent despite the 3-4 tables available around. Finally, we decided to go back home to have a better view of the game.
I'll not return to This place in NYC.
I like the Ainsworth, but this most recent trip was awful. It was supposed to by 1/2 price Steak night for Monday Night Football and we sat down at 7.45pm, 45 mins before Kick off and they had already run out of steaks! Very disappointing and was no apology or offer to honor the 1/2 price on our second choice, non-steak options..
The service is awful. I mean, AWFUL. We waited 30 minutes for a drink. This was after we were told twice that they were out of what we ordered. We literally sat there and watched the waitresses stand at the end of the bar talking and laughing and literally doing nothing. The only reason I give this place two stars is because the artichoke appetizer was awesome. Even the burger wasn’t that great. Will never ever go back again. Ever.
The food was not served at the same time, we had to ask for more water and our food - and the music was way too loud for the number of people in the restaurant. The waitress actually asked "what do you need?" when we finally did flag her down. Had to do that twice!
Would not recommend!
The burgers we came for were Mac and cheese burgers, and those were the best burgers of my life, BUT the music was so load that the people inside of the place were talking high voices, there was no way to have a good conversation with your companion. Food A+, Noise F-
This was the absolute worst place I have been to! Me and my boyfriend do date night every weekend and we like to try out different places so we actually saw this place on Instagram and the food looked really good we got there and it was nothing like the pictures! We wanted our burgers well done and they came out as hard as a brick! And on top of that the service was horrible!! After our meal she didn't ask us if we wanted anything else she just brought us our check! I guess they didn't want our money because we were planning on getting more drinks and dessert.
I've been to the Ainsworth several times before and have enjoyed the food, drinks, setting. So I arranged a large brunch get together with 9 friends, and it ended up being a disaster. Although brunch is still on their online menu, they apparently no longer serve brunch. They hadn't received a food shipment so we were told there was a limited regular menu. We all ordered, and the waitress came back to the table 15 minutes later and said only one order of fish tacos was left, so two of us changed our orders. The food came out at different times over at least an hour, so everyone just ate as they received their food at different times. The one serving of fish tacos that came out was raw - the fish was literally cold and mostly uncooked. It took forever for them to make the replacement sliders. We had three different servers and it still took forever to get the check. When asked how our everything was at the end, we said it was poor for the reasons above. The waitress got defensive and patronizing and told us she was really busy (the place is huge, there were other severs and three other groups), but ended up taking off the tacos and another dish. Not sure what's happened to management there but wouldn't recommend going there for an actual meal unless you just want a drink and someplace to watch a game.
The restaurant was half empty on a Saturday night, our waitress was awful. We ordered sangria and they didn't have the sangria on the menu so they accommodated and made a different sangria. We received it and it tasted like water. Zero flavor. After that 45 minutes went by and we asked the hostess where our waitress was because we still had not received our food or even seen her. She went and got her and the waitress didn't even apologize for the wait on our food and to speak to the manager and said she would go check the status. 10-15 minutes went by and she had disappeared and never came back so we went and told the hostess who was much more apologetic and we ended up leaving because no one ever came back to our table.
Went for my birthday ... chose for location as had tickets to Gotham Comedy Club after ... reservation was 730pm, had to be out by 930pm for the show. My whole party (8 ppl!) were there by 725pm so we seated early & I foresaw no issues.
Place was empty by normal standards cos it was raining heavily ... however - the waitress must've thought it was like a snow day & she didn't really have to do much ... long story short by 935pm most of the table hadn't received entrees. We canceled the food and at first they still wanted to charge us for it, cos apparently it had been cooked ... sense prevailed & they didn't charge us for the food we hadn't eaten, and they gave us what was ready 'to go' - so they're not bad ppl & the food wasn't bad even tho eaten after midnight ... but if you're going there you need to be on them for service - don't assume anything (e.g. the waitress will come & take our order any moment). Luckily my group was a good bunch & we had a laugh about it ... and Gotham killed it so the evening was a success overall.
Ordered the Shishto peppers app and they were out of it. Then two of us ordered the reuben burger they are known for. They were out of that. This was a Friday night at 8 PM. We then ordered burgers and a pulled pork sandwich. Food was good. Our waitress was really nice but at the end of the night she disappeared. Apparently her shift was over. Her replacement never checked in and we waited awhile for the check until I went and got up and asked for it.
Very disappointed with the service. Waited 40 minutes for our drinks to come and over an hour for our food to come. When we asked the waiter to check on the food, she said the kitchen was busy. Meanwhile there were plenty of open tables and our food was ice cold when it arrived. Really disappointed and definitely does not live up to its hype.
My daughter and her friends celebrated her 18th birthday in style. They loved the social scene at the restaurant. Food was delicious and very reasonable for NYC party of 9. Service was great despite the crowds from MSG bball games. Already recommended The Ainsworth Chelsea to friends!
The waitress took a long time to come over after we were seated and only checked on us once. Then we couldn't find her when we wanted the check and had to find the bartender. The iconic Mac and cheese burger was ok but I wouldn't return for it. Overall kind of a let down of an experience.
Music was phenomenal!! Atmosphere was more like a sports bar, really loud but enjoyable. The service was horrible. We had to flag down then waitress multiple times and it seems as if she completely ignored our section which incuded another table. We had to remind her to get our food which came out cold. I got the Mac & Cheese Burger which was tolerable at best. The drinks were pure juice with droplets of alcohol. This was a really bad experience and it almost ruined my 30th birthday.
This is a place I have enjoyed many times prior. Don't know why they changed a good thing, menu was limited, took 45 min for a basic lunch that came cold. The table next to us waited 30 min to order and the newer table that came in after us was done before we had food. Until they change back I'll find a new spot.
A friend and I came here before a concert at MSG, because we wanted to avoid the more crowded pubs right near there, and we could make a reservation quickly. Their drinks were fine, I had a Manhattan. I ordered their panko chicken strips and they were definitely overdone. The fries were fine. My friend got the crab tacos which are very small but admittedly full of crab meat. It was earlier in the evening so not crowded like when people
Come to party, during which I'm sure it's a meat market, if you're into that. Servers were nice.
The skirt steak dinner was delicious. The waitress was attentive. Our only complaint was the Irish Coffee which we ordered because the coffee machine was not working. We've never been served Irish Coffee w/ ingredients served separately! Bar tender needs further training. Hopefully our next visit the coffee machine will be working and we won't have to deal w/ the Irish Coffee.
Service was not good! We went here for a holy brunch at 1130 am when the place was still not crowded. One of out orders were 2 plates of pancakes. Imagine that it took them 20 minutes and three follow-ups to give us the syrup??? Asked for a plastic container for leftovers and the lid does not match the container. The place was freezing, we had to eat with our coat on. And imagine that I had my Canada Goose coat on and the temperature was just right. Not coming back. Not worth it.
