About this restaurant

  • Great for scenic views
  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
The Ahwahnee Dining Room is currently serving breakfast and dinner in buffet style service featuring many classic favorites like eggs benedict and a full selection of breakfast favorites. At dinner, enjoy a carving station featuring our famous Prime Rib and more. If you experience difficulty making a reservation through Open Table, please call us directly at (209) 372-1490 so we may assist you.

The Ahwahnee is near completion of a seismic retrofit renovation project in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve this iconic hotel. During the last phase of the project (May - August), the impacted areas will be isolated to the West Terrace and surrounding areas near the Dining Room. This work will result in some obstructed views, and we expect construction noise between 10AM–4PM, Monday–Friday. We have done our best to mitigate any negative guest experiences, though we recognize it may cause inconveniences and conditions. We thank you for your patience and understanding.

The restaurant is historic, the grounds are beautiful, and the service was excellent. The food was mediocre. Dinner is an expensive buffet instead of a prepared to order meal. My salmon was hard on the outside and dry on the inside, the asparagus and cauliflower were overcooked, the Caesar salad had no flavor to the dressing, and the quinoa was bland. The mac and cheese was very cheesy and the polenta was very good. The desserts were hit and miss. The brownies and lemon curd phyllo cups were excellent, the lemon bars were only ok. The mini-cheese cakes weren't very good and the crust felt like it was just sand at the bottom of the muffin wrapper, rather than an actual crust. There were lots of options for meat-eaters, including a carving station, chicken, pork, and shrimp. I know lots of people like those things, but for vegetarians who won't eat those things, the price is way too high to not receive the same value as the non-vegetarians. Frankly, the food at the Yosemite Valley Lodge Mountain Room was much better tasting and a much better value.

Good food at the buffet, but somewhat limited choices. Biggest complaint is that the food was lukewarm at best.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and dining room. Piano player was lovely. Views were also stunning. Buffet food was also excellent. Had a great birthday with family.

The shift to buffet service is a disaster by overcharging for mediocre food and limited selections. The dining room atmosphere is second to none and the staff were great as always. It's a shame that the food does not represent what should be a fine dining experience. Until they go back to menu service and ensure that the food they serve is up to standards I wouldn't recommend.

Your paying to dine in the dining room. If you’re okay with the price to sit and eat cold food with poor service then this is the place. Until they return to made-to-order food or put more effort behind the service and food offered I’ll just visit the dining room for the looks. Everything at breakfast was cold. Not room temp but cold. Their response was we’ll turn up the dishes and bring out a new tray of eggs. Our servers were non-existent. Bad experience.

Meals in the dining room are wonderful. Pianists on their grand piano make it so special to dine there.

We had a window table which would have been lovely except that outside the window was construction equipment blocking the beautiful view and our table was right next to the service stand so I felt like I was in the kitchen. Maybe at a different table or a different view we would have enjoyed it?

Excellent staff serving our table. Right on their game! Food is enjoyable, atmosphere fantastic. Will be nice when the construction trailers and toilets are finally removed. Upsides: atmosphere and staff. Biggest downsides: cold breakfast potatoes and a chemical smell on the OJ glass-perhaps not rinsed well enough?

We had a reservation for 845 and by the time we had shown up, they had already started breaking down what was a buffet style dinner which we were not expecting. The weight staff was lovely and absolutely very helpful but it was a disappointing dinner.
