Great food with perfect but relaxed service in a room that feels like an old Wisconsin super club. Loved it all. Portions are very generous.
Excellent food. Wait staff was terrific
Great food and service.
Excellent food and service. I had the pork chop with red cabbage and spaetzle. Everything was done just right. My dining partner had a fish dish that he said was very tasty. Service was prompt but not rushed. This restaurant was on my bucket list and I will be back.
Second time there. Amazing food. Period.
Although I love The Admiral for service (the best) and the beautiful ambiance, I always find the menu to be challenging. Not everyone eats port, pork belly, fois gras, sweet breads. I had a glass of wine, shared the mussels which I always enjoy. I ordered the only fish entry that was
on the menu and although it was good, it wasn't out of this world and was very pricey at $35.
One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Had the seared duck breast. It was covered with delicious vegetables. Can't wait to go back. Service was excellent.
The food was (as usual) very good for the most part, but not as outstanding as what I've had there before. However they have significantly upped their prices into the stratosphere and I doubt I will be going back soon unless I win the lottery...
The menu is limited but the food is always very good. Parking is difficult.
We went to celebrate Valentine's Day late because for the last 6 months I have been traveling back and forth to Florida helping my Dad prepare and now hopefully recover from open heart surgery to have a valve replaced. I had to cancel our Feb. 14th reservation, but it was definitely worth the wait!! Thank you to The Admiral for exceeding our expectations! ♥️❤️♥️
Great eclectic menu, leave feeling well fed, but not stuffed and sleepy. Fantastic drink options. Best to go with friends who like to share. I will be going back.
My favorite restaurant in Asheville. Yummy. The beef Tartare is incredible and we had two servings..
We have been here several times and the food is always innovative, delicious and wonderful in variety. Bon appetit!!
Great service and very good food in friendly atmosphere
Our anniversary weekend
My vegetable plate was very good, even if it was merely a combination of several side dishes. But to be honest I was disappointed that there were no vegetarian entrees. This suggests a lack of imagination in the kitchen, and hopefully will be corrected.
The Owl Bakery bread with “Everything Butter” was a standout: high quality with luscious flavors.
Service was fantastic - knowledgeable and friendly.
I read about The Admiral on Trip Advisor, and thought I would book a reservation for a date. For a “non local”, be prepared to arrive early and find a parking spot wherever you can. The staff were incredibly professional and polite. An older crowd, classy laid back people - a positive environment. As someone who travels constantly for work and pleasure, I spend at least 150 nights per year in hotels, and eat out and entertain clients in the US, Canada, and Mexico. My expectations for restaurants are realistic, and I rarely complain about meals. The best part of this restaurant was the salad - excellent. The entrees and side dishes were above average, but not great. The cost of the meal plus a reasonable bottle of wine was a little over $200. Not a huge sum, but for $100 per person, the food did not meet my expectations.
Wasn’t as good as usual
Delicious and memorable. The sweetbreads were among my favorite things I have eaten. Ever.
The Admiral certainly doesn't need my support: it's one of the most popular places in town, and deservedly so. Everything is always excellent, and it's amazing that so many good things come out of such a small kitchen. Two things of note from our most recent meal there: first was the foie gras, one of the very best preparations I've ever had, with a combination of a hazelnut purée and a citrus sauce, on toasted brioche. Wonderful. And second was the discovery of a light German pinot noir on the wine list. We almost never see German reds in restaurants, but this one was an excellent complement to various things on the menu.
Always one of the best places to eat in town, and to take new friends to see and enjoy! Their menu pushes the envelope! Be adventurous! Enjoy!
Awesome as usual!! The food combinations are so creative and delicious!! I am very glad to have found this place.
Lily was such a great caretaker for our 5th anniversary celebration, she was knowledgeable, caring, prompt and jovial. The food was outstanding as always, and the smoked sausage bites and chocolates were a very sweet and delicious gift. We couldn’t be happier with our entire experience! Thanks to all the staff for a great anniversary experience. We will be back soon!!
Still great but not as good as before. The tilefish and quail superb; the duck quite ordinary and the smoked trout "mousse," really a pate, tasted like a deli purchase. All list as "large entrees" we're about 10 percent above Asheville prices. All were $30 and up. $32 for duck?! No.
1. Delicious fried oysters with a delectable, nearly whipped remoulade should have included lemon wedges on the plate.
2. The Brussels sprouts were very good, even Moreno, cold, the next day. (And if I brought food home, you can conclude that the portions are not too small.)
3. Trout was cooked perfectly; it was served in a bowl of clam chowder including clams in the shell--this was very pretty and delicious, but the diced potatoes were almost flavorless. They shouldn't be in there merely for texture.
4. I simply did not have the jaw strength to masticate the rather large leaves of Swiss chard.
5. Dessert menu did not tempt us, though we were open to it.
6. It all ended on a rather sad note, meal-wise, when a tepid cup of coffee was served.
Awesome dinner and great service. Funky atmosphere - in a good way.
Fantastic menu with even better service. This is a very chill spot in West Asheville that my wife and I will now be putting into our rotation when we visit. Make reservations now!
An Ashevile "landmark"... low-slung, funky, old, painted diamond-patterned structure on busy street with consistently delicious, creatively envisioned and prepared food. Croque Madame an unusual offering, and so delicious! Pair it (or a steak/chop) with the arugula salad. Cheese board is a super starter. Not much elbow room inside because it's a small place, but clientele is adult and conversation is easy. Always booked, so call far ahead for a reservation.
Absolutely fabulous food! Very small dining area, open kitchen, so noisy. We would go again if we visit Asheville again!
The Admiral is one of my two favorite restaurants in Asheville. The food is outstanding--both full entrees and choices of small plates. It is always a pleasure to recommend this restaurant to friends and acquaintances--and then to hear them rave after taking the advice. The staff is well trained, attentive, and helpful in describing menu changes.
GREAT, AS USUAL.
Absolutely incredible. Top 5 dining experiences in town no question!
Food was excellent as usual, kind of a dive bar look on the outside but always has great food.
Everyone should give the Admiral a try. Reserve early or you won't get in
Wonderful server with amazing personality ! Food was great.
Food was amazing, however.....when serving food to customers, I would recommend the waitress wear deodorant!
Food was very good, service was slow.
Best food we have had when eating out in a long time. Appetizer of fried oysters in cornmeal batter delicious. Cocktail was great- can’t remember name of drink , but was first drink listed on menu. Got ribeyes as entrees and perfectly cooked Brasstown beef. Portions large- no room for dessert, but will try next time !!
Another great meal at one of the top restaurants in Asheville. Great service as usual!
Enjoyed the food but I made a few special requests which I told could be accommodated (based on dietary restrictions, not pickiness) & still ended up w/some sort of meat in my scallops. Had to pick thru it. I was too exhausted to complain. That's my own fault. The parking situation sucks.
Enjoyed all our dishes except the mushrooms that were served with the scallops. I'm typically a big fan of mushrooms but the ones served with this dish did not pair nicely with the scallops at all. Thumbs down for that.
