The Admiral Ratings and Reviews
Unfortunately, The Admiral did not meet our expectations. We ordered one of the local cheeses, Bibb lettuce salad, scallops, lamb and pork belly. Of all the dishes, the cheese with apricot spread, pecans and crostini was the most remarkable. Salad was a bust - rather plain. Scallops, though good, were nothing special. Pork belly was average. The lamb was extremely disappointing. All in all, a decent experience; however, would not return for a second visit.
The Admiral was a nice surprise! Not much to look at from the outside, but nice and cozy ambience on the inside. Nice mix of diners. Service was attentive. Interesting dining options. The food was nicely presented. My only negative was that the scallops I had for dinner were slightly gritty, which happens sometimes. I'm sure the restaurant would have offered me another meal option, but I chose not to comment to the server. All in all, a nice evening.
Went to The Admiral based on the recommendation of a friend, and he didn’t steer us wrong. Food was excellent, creatively prepared and presented. Charcuterie was a wonderful mix of meats, cheeses, grilled bread and preserves. Grilling the bread for charcuterie makes such a difference. We shared several items from the appetizers and small plates and nothing disappointed. Short ribs were especially delicious
Our third time dining with The Admiral. All smooth sailing. The food is excellent, and the service is attentive but relaxed. As vegetarians, my wife and I are always surprised by the creative approach and care taken by the chef when developing unique flavors and unexpected combinations. Do yourself a favor and book a table. But book well in advance so as not to miss the boat.
Pretty disappointed in the food. Fried oysters we heavily breaded, many of the undersides still saturated in oil - the aioli was strongly flavored, which further contributed to the oysters being lost. Roasted local beets were decent, not bad nor something to write home about. Beef tartare was another disappointment, primarily due to the beef being placed on another strongly flavored aioli, making it impossible to enjoy the delicate and subtle mixture of quail egg and tartare.
We've explored many of the Asheville restaurants over the last few years, but this was our first time at The Admiral. We were extremely impressed. Cool low key interior. Good was amazing - some of the best I've had among all the renowned Asheville restaurants. And most notably the service was fantastic. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive, and very helpful with suggestions and answering our questions. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
The Admiral is one of our favorites. My wife and I just made the drive from North Myrtle to have dinner for 6 birthdays in a row now. This place is very progressive and up to date when it comes to food. If you are fancy pants place with simple food and fancy decor, you should probably go to the biltmore
