We were disappointed in some of the dishes we got. One was the snapper appetizer...fish was raw. That was unexpected as the description didn't indicate that. The portion size was small for the pork collar (but we have teenage boys so maybe our expectations are too high there). The half chicken was excellent as well as the steak option. The service was excellent.
The chef uses interesting combinations of ingredients with familiar fare to please the palate.
Food was fantastic. Enjoyed the new outdoor eating area.
Lovely food, great service. Keen attention to flavor, texture, and balance in every dish. They surprised us with complimentary amuse-bouche which were on point and delicious. Happy with every choice we made. I wish we had asked to sit outside as the new screened in space seemed so inviting for a summer evening. The inside space would be especially cozy in winter months.
Delicious food, drinks, and courteous, knowledgeable wait staff in a stylish but unaffected environment. One of Asheville’s best!
The service was excellent from the moment we arrived - the host, server, and service assistant were all incredibly professional and friendly.
The food left something to be desired. Our appetizer was a grilled peach. It was delicious. We had a small plate of steamed mussels tossed with chopped radish and herbs. I thought the flavor was bland, my wife liked them. For entrees, we ordered the rainbow trout and the pork collar. The trout was good, not great. Scandinavian style, it was cooked perfectly seasoned well. The pork was a big letdown. It was a very small portion and was tough to chew. It was also rather bland. For dessert we both had chocolate pudding. It was delicious!
Overall it was a good experience. I was expecting more out of the $22 trout and $26 pork entree. I believe The Admiral's reputation has been hyped up over the years, but they could do better with the food.
I'd say it's worth visiting once, so you can experience the top knotch service. If you want great food, go to Curate instead.
Food was fantastic!!! Friendly, great service, glad we listened to a friend and went here!
Exceeded expectations. The food was balanced, unexpected and vibrant. A very memorable experience!
Great spot. We will be back.
The service was top-notch throughout the entire evening! Selena was most welcoming and Jesse was a great server. We chose two starters and one small plate and one entree to share. The duck liver mousse and the smoked barracuda were our favorites, but the roasted peach and the zucchini were excellent, as well. We received a surprise nibble and another starter from the kitchen, so we were stuffed even before it was time for dessert. Sparkling cava was excellent by the glass! What a great evening in WAVL!!
Great as always.....cant wait to come back again
Exceeded expectations. The food was outstanding. The service was great. And the setting, music, and vibe were perfect. Great experience!
We chose The Admiral to celebrate our 54th Wedding Anniversary. It is very cozy and romantic. We began with the duck liver mousse, which was outstanding. We especially liked the pink Pinot Grigio, the pork collar (new for us) and the half chicken. The salads accompanied the main dishes well. Our servers were delightful and teated us as if we were vey important to them.
The food and service were both extraordinary. I had the potato gnocchi, the denver steak and a side of sautéed greens and each were very good. I would highly recommend any of these items, especially the potato gnocchi.
Great place to celebrate. Nice people and really tasty food. A bit of a splurge, but doable.
The menu that night was pretty slim. The food was good, but not as good as I've had on prior trips to the Admiral. The atmosphere was great, as was the service. Just a little disappointed in the quality of the food choices and the food itself.
Definitely the finest meal of our long weekend in Asheville-Chef Neal provided beautifully balanced but always surprising dishes that demonstrate such great finesse with local seasonal ingredients. Absolutely stellar!
The food was excellent and really enjoyed our time in Asheville!
Love this restaurant! Always great!
Nothing you did wrong but the menu did not do it for me
So freakin good!!! The simple food is really thoughtfully done
Fabulous food and wine. We want to go back often. Foodies can't miss this one. The only problem I have is that the bathroom isn't accessible for people in wheelchairs at all
We love the Admiral but were disappointed with the quantity of food for the price. We paid $14 for a single, small drumstick of duck. The menu said duck leg...I don't know, perhaps I was imagining something more substantial. It was nothing more than 3 bites. Overall we spent close to $100 including tip for the server, who was delightful, and then walked across the street to the WALK to get some more food. Overall, it wasn't a good value meal...what we did have was tasty for sure but didn't warrant the price we paid.
The food was inventive, the presentation creative, the service friendly. We sat at the bar - we highly recommend this. The evening was fantastic. We will come again next time we are in Asheville.
been to the admiral several times and each time it seems to be getting too much for its own self. as an example, they offer a 49 ribeye. I've had the ribeye several times, although good, not worth 49 dollars. lastly, my vegetarian significant other could not find an entree to fill her up; as there was not an option on the menu.
Great food and cocktails
Dined @The Admiral in 12/17.......excellent evening from ambiance to drinks to cuisine. Just returned for our 50th wedding anniversary and was SO DISAPPOINTED, to say the least.
I wanted just a glass of Chardonnay......only 1 label available by the glass.......wasn’t good. My husband’s entree was 1/2 chicken. It was served in a bowl with salad wedged up against it.
So unappealing as well as difficult to eat. My arugula salad was tasteless and julienned apples were underneath while cheese was haphazardly tucked under arugula. When asked by waiter if all was good, we said no and manager came out. She offered to comp dessert but we weren’t looking for a free meal......just a fun celebration with great food. Will not return or recommend anymore.
This was our first dining experience at The Admiral and we were pleased overall. The ambience and vibe are just wonderful. It's dark and cozy, and even with the dining room full it wasn't overly loud. The menu is very chef-driven, with some small plates and entrees as well. I did notice that there were lots of greens, but no potatoes or starches (other than bread) on the menu, which was a little odd. Although I wasn't crazy about the menu offerings, everything I tried was delicious. And the cocktails very quite original. We will definitely return, and hope the menu changes with the seasons.
Wonderful food. Between the 2 of us we had almost every small plate they offered. None of them were less than spectacular! Great place!
We had had an incredibly hard day and the Admiral changed our reservation time to help us out. Food was outstanding as always and never felt rushed to put in the next course order. We love that style of hospitality
Food and service was fantastic. Comfortable, low-key setting.
The ribeye steak was spectacular. So were the cocktails, especially the White Dove.
The milk-braised ribs were not as flavorful as hoped for. I like the dark atmosphere, but some in my party thought it was cave-like.
Still one of my favorite restaurants.
We have visited the Admidral many times enjoying each meal. However, this time around our pork ribs were generous but totally tasteless with a strange grainy white sauce that didn't help. The wait staff was wonderful and caring offering to return the ribs and substitute another choice which we did. That choice was tasty. The choices were limited on the menu which seems a change from last time we were there. It will be awhile before we return.
We're new to the Asheville area, and the Admiral was highly recommended by new friends. Based on our first experience, we dined twice more within two weeks - three times in a month. As a foodie, I can tell you that everything we tried, across the three visits, was fresh, inventive, and delicious. It's small so reservations can be hard to get, but give the counter a try - same great food, same attentive service.
Basics like mussels and chicken were elevated to a new level. The texture was buttery tender (crispy skin for the chicken). The service was above and beyond.
Interesting menu. Well prepared. Very comfortable setting. Enjoyed the evening
We had a wonderful multi-course dinner. Excellent wine list. Service was very professional and friendly.
Love The Admiral.
The food and service were great!! So glad we found this hidden gem!
We have enjoyed The Admiral over the years. They still do a good job, but some newcomers in the Asheville area have gotten our attention. The Admiral may be overcome by some of those players.
Small portions and rather bland. Cocktails were good!
