Was a little nervous because I had read a few “this place ain’t what it used to be” reviews online. Those people are just flat out wrong. Our meal was phenomenal. First course, second course, and drinks. Waiter was superb (thanks Wes)! The only thing I wasn’t blown away by was the dessert, but I was so happy at that point that I didn’t even care. Not only that but Wes brought us a second dessert because he thought our pie needed some homemade ice cream. Wonderful evening. Definitely will be back next time we are in town.
Service was extremely rushed. We were in and out in about an hour. Courses came immediately one after another. Server cleared plates the second we were finished eating. It was not a relaxing experience at all. We also made a reservation on line which stated only bar seating was available although there were several tables available (we were seated at one) when we arrived.
One of the best meals I’ve had all year. Coming from a large metropolitan background of chicago, I have my bar set high for going out to eat. The service group was so kind and inviting, our meal was outstanding, and the small touches made this a meal I won’t soon forget.
We've been going to the Admiral for at least 10 years. We love the casual atmosphere, the changes they have made to provide better seating, but most of all the food! Our server did a great job. As expected, he knew the menu inside and out. He was attentive, but not hovering. Our dinners were prepared as promised, beautifully plated and delicious!
Simply perfect. Don't let the outside fool you. It's a cozy, friendly neighborhood spot with food that rivals any meal you've ever had. Sheer flavor.
Great unassuming location and space. Food was fantastic and staff was very helpful. Would gladly go back!
My husband and I used to live in Asheville, and fondly recall a perfect meal we once had at the Admiral. We returned this evening, hoping to recreate that perfect night, and it only exceeded our expectations. Could not recommend this place more.
Overall food is always good, we just wished the menus had a few more “traditional” options like salmon, chicken etc.
Where to begin. We are from out of town. The Admiral had been recommended by friends who lived in Asheville. It had been on my radar for a few years. We finally had opportunity to give it a try. It far exceeded all expectations. Granted, the exterior is very understated. Do not let that fool you. Food wise this is as good as it gets! The food preparation and flavors left us smacking our lips over and over. I cannot give a stronger recommendation.
The ceasar like salad we started with was just so perfect in every way. My mussels were in a slightly spicy tomato broth with plenty of fennel which is my favorite flavor. Great dinner at the bar.
Our experience eating dinner at the bar at the Admiral was fantastic. The drinks and dishes were all delicious. They also made my husband's ginger ale in house and it was so great. Highly recommend.
Food and service were very average and overpriced. The Admiral used to be a special treat with great food and outstanding service at a premium price. The only thing remaining is the premium price. With so many excellent restaurants in the area, the Admiral should be near the bottom of your list.
Audi car club
Great food, service, drinks and ambiance
Enjoyed our visit and delicious meal. Service was very good except that our waitress was a little 'blah' - perhaps a bad day. For the price and level of foodquality we always expect and excellent service and hope to see that the next time we return.
Service was not great. Took a while to get water, took a while to get a drink, took a while to even place our order. Food was not as good as everyone had said (other than the beef tartar- it was great).
The food, drinks and service all made this a 5 star experience! And then we unfortunately decided to have a couple desserts another of another small plate. Both desserts were so below the quality of the 4 savory dishes we had for our meal. If we hadn't had dessert it would have easily been a 5!
The first time we Been there and impressed with the quality, service and knowledgeable wait staff.. limited in menu selections but what we had was unique and delicious, ie beef tartar, chicken..
Took some friends here from out of town. I have eaten here so many times before and love your place. this night the service was just okay out side and there were only two tables out there. Just found that there was less on the menu that sounded appealing. The Okra and Steak tartare were great! Gnocchietti was just okay.....I will of course be back but it just wasn't a great as I had raved about.
The food was outstanding! Our group of 5 enjoyed many of the small plates. There is something here to satisfy vegetarians as well as those that like meat. Oh, we had multiple rounds of cocktails. I highly recommend the one that is made with Gin and Sake. It was very light and refreshing.
We had read a few negative reviews, so wasn't sure what to expect this time, but it was as good as my past experiences in every way...all superb! I look forward to being in the area so I can eat at The Admiral. Only problem is deciding which of the many dishes offered to order as the tummy is only so big. So smart to have the Small Plates so you can savor more choices.
There were two in our party. The food was great, along with the drinks, and the atmosphere. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique meal at a place that is not packed with tourists.
Outstanding as always. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Highly recommend!
I have been here many times and have been very pleased. However, my most recent visit on 9/21 left much to be desired. Service was slow and the food was simply average. I know the menu changes frequently so I will give them the benefit of the doubt that perhaps this was simply not their best lineup, but I would certainly think twice before heading back as there are many great alternatives in Asheville.
We had heard so much about this restaurant, very mediocre.
Our usual go to place for birthdays or anniversaries but tonight was such a let down. Food was just not up to par for what we have had in the past. Mussels app was no where near as good as last years. Had several that weren't open. Lobster mushrooms dish had squash that was so undercooked it was inedible while mushrooms were overcooked. Just no cohesion to the dish. Pork chop was good but portions were very undercooked. Just not up to standards
The night before our wedding, great food. Best pork chop I’ve ever had.
One of the best dinners i have ever had!
Love this place, always consistently good food and service.
This place is such a hidden gem in west Asheville! Such amazing flavors and unique concepts for food! We always come here every time we come to town!
The food was delicious but not as good as I remembered!
Our waiter was wonderful! He gladly moved us to a new table when the table behind us became rowdy and hitting our common bench!
We will definitely return!
Delicious food and fun vibe. I highly recommend it.
Love it every time!
The dinner was really great...everyone really enjoyed it! My only issue was that it was rather warm inside (a/c was subpar) and a warm, muggy night outside.
We (my husband and I)shared 4 courses and were comfortably full by the time we received the bill. Pear/chèvre salad, mussels, pork chop, and chocolate pudding. The pork chop was amazing!
Fun night for all of us!
P.s. so glad that they have round tables; makes for easier conversation with six people
Excellent service and the food was exceptional, a very enjoyable evening and a place that can be recommended to friends and family
Service was outstanding for a party of 6.
Pate was great and pork chop cooked perfectly.
Everyone in the group agreed it was a great dinner!
Not sure if there was an ownership change here or what but this went from being one of the best in Asheville to somewhere I won’t go again. Super unfortunate.
So refreshing to be able to dine in a space that has good lightening, food, service, and not too loud to enjoy conversation. This would be my local restaurant if I lived here. Sweet little bar area and patio as well.
A Must go to restaurant when you are in the Asheville area..
