The Abbey on Butler Street
We’ve exposed brick walls and wooden ceiling beams, centered one of the largest outdoor seating spaces in the city around a swan fountain, and crowned the coffeehouse with a reclaimed church rose window restored as a chandelier.
We’ve created the Abbey to give a sense of place, the feeling that you’ve discovered something novel, yet close to home. We’ve brought together a coffeehouse, two bars, and a bistro all under a single roof. We're exploring the world of craft - come explore it with us.
Nice time nice atmosphere but definitely overpriced
Allow guests to amend food as needed. You will waste less not forcing people to have what they don’t want.
Excellent Gluten Free Shrimp and Grits! Sadly, our seating was in the back corner bar area and it was much louder than I’d have preferred and a favorite cocktail was removed from the menu. My next visit will help determine if it was just an “off” day.
Second time here and enjoyed the beer selection and the food. Had the flight of 4 different beers and the loaded bagel on the brunch menu. Delicious! Wish the weather would've been better to be able to sit outside though. Will definitely be back!
From the moment we walked in...the host ignored us,the table was very tight for six people, the waiter was not attentive or knowledgeable and the food was unremarkable.
The salad I had was very fresh and the dressing was delicious. My friend got the ravioli and she didn't really care for them. Great beer selection.
Ate on the patio in the afternoon of the Biden rally. Server was "Millenial-friendly". Cocktails were "OK" Food was good. Portions large. Order-to-table time a bit long, considering there were less than 10 patrons on the patio. In the end, I had the entire patio to myself while I basked in a warm spring sun - priceless!
The Abbey is a great Pittsburgh restaurant. Great experience. Great service. Thanks Dave!
Really enjoyed the atmosphere here. We will surely be back for Sunday Brunch which is an extensive menu! Also liked that there were 3 vegan options.
All three of our meals were excellent! One person got the meatloaf and the others got the pork schnitzel dinner and sandwich. We highly recommend.
Came here for my husband’s 35th birthday and it was excellent. Food, drinks, and service were all great. Can’t wait to come back, there were several other things on the menu that I want to try!
Always comfortable, surroundings & food. Never disappoints!
Overall I was very impressed by The Abbey. The space itself is fascinating with the bar, patio, and coffee house. Not to mention the diverse food and cocktail menu. I am already planning my next visit whether it be to have a study session in the café or dine on the patio. I would highly recommend The Abbey!
The breakfast was ok. Not impressed. The service was ok. Not good, not bad.
It’s not the place for Easter breakfast.
Lunch or dinner is better
Love everything about this place. The food and drinks were delicious and the bill was only $53 for two drinks, an appetizer and two entrees. We will definitely be back.
We went for brunch and had an excellent meal. Service was great, food was great. I would definitely go again.
The food was excellent! It was pretty quiet there, maybe bc of us being there early and the rain shutting down their patio. Prices were appropriate for the quality.
Food very good but menu somewhat limited. Huge selection of beers.
The food was sub par at best. I was very disappointed!
Our table was as we requested. Our meals came quickly and were mostly enjoyable. Maple scallops were exceptional. The atmosphere and decor was lovely. Our waiter was less than stellar.
We have been to The Abbey before and we really like the atmosphere. But it was so disappointing this time. Many of the items on the menu were not available. Our server told us it was because they always run out of items on Sunday. That is not my problem and they should do a better job of planning if this happens frequently which our server seemed to indicate. And it was across the board - drinks, entrees, desserts, etc. Our server also seemed to lose track of us after our entrees were delivered. Even when we tried to fly him down. Not sure when we will return.
The Abbey is a very special venue with great food. I was not able to give my experience a full five stars for each rating category because the mashed potatoes that came with my filet mignon were barely lukewarm, and the venue was very tightly (perhaps a bit too tightly) packed with effervescent diners, but I really enjoyed my meal, and I will be going back. I would recommend attempting to go to The Abbey during off-hours so as to avoid the crush and loud volume of other diners.
Great to meet up with old froends
Early lunch is a quiet time
Service was very good
I was a little disappointed with the lobster salad as the dressing seemed to have too much vinegar and less lobster for the $16 price
The food was incredibly good and very large portions. The beer selection was impressive. Quite frankly, the only bad thing about the entire experience was the lighting. The lights were so low I needed to use my cell phone to read the menu. Larger tables had lights directly overhead. The smaller tables were in the dark.
All in all, great experience and we will be back.
This was our first time to The Abbey and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Our server was so nice and attentive. The food was good. Loved the old building. We will certainly go back.
We were late for our reservation, but the Hostess was very friendly and accommodating. Our sever was patient (we had a table full of crazy requests due to allergies, GF, vegan and diets). The food was AMAZING.
Service and food was excellent........................Highly recommended
First time eating there. Wonderful atmosphere. Fish sandwich was fantastic and husband loved the lamb burger. They even lit a candle on my cheesecake for my birthday. We will definitely be back, hopefully for the outside dining.
We met my daughters and their significant others for brunch. We started with the edamame hummus with grilled Naan and pork rinds. Very tasty. Since it was St. Patrick’s Day, 4 of us decided to have the Corned Beef Benedict, which was served with home fries and jalapeño ketchup. All 4 enjoyed. The other 2 had the Harvest Salad with chicken and no goat cheese. They also stated it was good. All had coffee and water to drink. We enjoyed the conversation and the meal and also enjoyed Jumanji on the bar TV.
Great food and drink. The only disappointment was that we went there specifically because it said there was a Bloody Mary bar. When we arrived, the server said they didn’t set it up because there wasn’t any time or something like that. Kind of a weird excuse for the lack of something advertised... But it was still really good.
Such a fun atmosphere. Great mix of bistro and comfort food
Close to home and cozy, The Abbey is a good, solid neighborhood pub. It's gotten better over time, dressing salads instead of only serving dressing on the side, and has also gotten better at not "auctioning off dishes" as was the case for a long time. I'm hoping that the Butler's Chicken will make a come back someday. The Fish and Chips is also terrific.
Excellent food, wonderful server who gave great advice.
Excellent food and service. Went out of their way to accommodate our delayed arrival. Would return
They were great... even as our large table crew by three at the last minute. Food was great ... almost too good!
Great food, great atmosphere, really cool spot. Will definitely be back!
Very impressed with the entrees and desserts. Definitely exceeded expectations and the quality of our maple glazed scallops was excellent. We will be back!
Great food, service and atmosphere, just a tad too noisy for me.
