The Abbey on Butler Street
We’ve exposed brick walls and wooden ceiling beams, centered one of the largest outdoor seating spaces in the city around a swan fountain, and crowned the coffeehouse with a reclaimed church rose window restored as a chandelier.
We’ve created the Abbey to give a sense of place, the feeling that you’ve discovered something novel, yet close to home. We’ve brought together a coffeehouse, two bars, and a bistro all under a single roof. We're exploring the world of craft - come explore it with us.
Perfect spot for friends holiday get together.
Great setting and food was superb. Service was not helpful on guiding us (e.g. VERY sweet dessert that was not related to the name -- mint julep -- and that is the time that a good server steps in and guides while ordering. Otherwise, lovely!
I’m a weekly eater at The Abbey on Butler Street and all my experiences have been wonderful. Even if I don’t have a reservation they always accommodate. The food is superb, the servers are very attentive and the setting is very clean and welcoming. Both mine and my clients meal were great. I highly recommend the Chicken and Waffles.
Went with my son and had an enjoyable time.. no dill pickles thiught
Really great atmosphere and decorated beautifully for the holidays. Food was absolutely amazing
Very good, excellent draft selection and range of brunch choices.
We had a wonderful experience at the Abbey! The service was quick and the server was very friendly and welcoming. The food didn't take too long to make and was absolutely wonderful! We got steaks and they were cooked perfectly. The feel of the restaurant is super cool and cozy. Prices are reasonable as well, what you would expect to pay for a dinner out. Would definitely go there again and recommend to anyone considering it.
What a great place. Service and food is always great but yesterday they went out of their way to help us when a member of our party had a medical emergency. They packed our food up to go and helped us leave quickly. Every time we’ve eaten there the food and drink has been outstanding and their help yesterday made us lifelong customers.
We went for Sunday brunch. This place is so neat and the entire experience was great. Food was outstanding, drink prices were slightly higher than most brunch places but not to be unexpected. 10/10 will return!
Love the decor; service great and the food was okay; new-ish menu with good selections. Not my first visit to Abbey. Especially nice in the good weather when you can eat outside on the patio.
i wanted to try somewhere new on my way downtown and must say that I made a fantastic choice. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and bar area and looked to have a great outdoor area (to cold for it to be open). Waitress was very good and food was fantastic and a very reasonable price. I" will definately be back!!
We've enjoyed this place other times, but Sunday brunch was a new low! Our server was overwhelmed (though extremely friendly and helpful). We waited 30 minutes for our entrees. And we were told that the chef would not accommodate any requests for substitutions--even though we only asked for scrambled eggs instead of sunny-side up on an item. That put our server in an awkward position. If this were a Michelin star restaurant I could see the chef's attitude, but it's ridiculous in a casual neighborhood cafe.
We had a great birthday brunch. Dishes are generous and delicious. I had the lamb burger, which was so good. Service is great. Their coffees are great too. I had the amazing cardamom latte
There was a DJ in the bar and it was uncomfortably loud, everyone seemed like they were shouting and straining to hear. The bartenders were very attentive and helpful.
Our server was very casual and seemed uninterested in his approach and did not introduce himself. He was less than attentive and delivered things incorrectly. He did not offer assistance with the menu or make any suggestions.
The food was outstanding!! Thank you for great vegan options. A bit more clarity on the labeling of dishes/ingredients would be appreciated. Espresso and dessert were equally delicious.
We will recommend, but only for food quality, with warnings about atmosphere and service.
Great atmosphere, good food, lousy service.
My chicken sandwich was not cooked all the way.
Everyone’s food was terrific. That was the best lamb ragu that I’ve had since eating in Rome!
Service was somewhat slow especially the drinks. But this won’t stop me from going again & again.
The addition of the dog friendly outdoor area is great.
The waiter was annoyed that we asked about gluten free options, mainly because the management changed the menu and they didn't have their "matrix" yet, which I assume graphs dietary restrictions to the menu items. It would seem that this would be a convenient, if not necessary thing to have in place when a menu changes if you wish to have dietary restricted patrons from frequenting your establishment. The food was ok.
Very good food! The bruschetta board was AMAZING! Great service, great drinks, just an overall great experience! Would recommend to anyone and can’t wait to go back and try more!
I love the Abbey but tonight was not their night. There was a long hair in my house salad. When I politely told the lady that dropped off our food,(we hadn’t seen the server), she silently took the bowl and said nothing. The manager never came over but did comp the salad off our bill. The server came over rarely and did not check on our food or apologize for the salad.
Good food and good service. A great place for brunch. We sat on outside patio and would highly recommend it.
We had a great time! The Abbey accommodated our party of 6 easily. Great atmosphere and drinks (we liked that our fancy coffee/tea drinkers could enjoy something alongside our beer/wine drinkers), and everyone loved their food! The dining room was also quiet enough that you could hold a conversation, which was nice. The menu didn’t have a great deal of variety for people with allergies, but they were able to accommodate us and everyone left happy!
Went to the candle lab and then got a late lunch/early dinner and had a FABULOUS experience! Food was PHENOMENAL!
We went for Brunch. The menu looked great with many different types and selections. If only the food had lived up to the menu. Omelets over cooked, kitchen was unwilling to make any additions or substitutions that were simple requests. Very mediocre
Great vegan options! The fries with curry were excellent as was the seitan ravioli. And they even had a berry cobbler, but I was too full because the portions are ample! Great ambiance outside by the fountain. Our waitress was great (except she did bring us cheese for the fries when we explicitly said we were vegan and didn't want cheese). Prices were a bit high, but not bad considering portion size. I'll be back!
Loved the atmosphere of the outdoor seating by the fountain. The food was good. We were disappointed as we tried to order 2 different bottles of wine from the menu and, in each case, our server returned and said “sorry we don’t have that one”. We felt that he should have checked on us...instead we had to chase him down. Despite all of that, we would definitely go again!
The Abbey is such a lovely place, I've come a few times. My first, I was a vegetarian and was very happy eating there and my second I enjoyed meatloaf which was delicious. But most recently I took dear friends and family members along and not only did they enjoy it which was my highlight for the evening but for the first time I got to try fresh fried pork rinds... Absolutely insane a must-try!!!! Always a pleasant atmosphere and very pleasant staff. Reservations encouraged!
The horchata latte was wonderful, and always love the breakfast options on the brunch menu!
The four of us had a fantastic time. We enjoyed everything that we ordered, especially the edamame hummus! I would definitely come here again!
Did a girl's brunch, food & service were awesome!
Service was not good. Server was not knowledgeable about menu items. And he had to cover outdoor tables plus indoor, so couldn't attend to us. At one point we had to go searching for appetizer plates ourselves, before the appetizer got cold. Food was fine. It was the service that put a damper on our evening.
Food was very good, service was not. Once food was delivered, waiter disappeared and we had to flag down another waiter to ask our waiter for the check. Once check was presented, no explanation or apology for lack of attention.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday brunch. Portions are generous. The fare is creative. The only frustration, which was very minor to be sure, was that you can swap out the starch, which was a pasta salad, for a regular salad. Our waiter did ask, “would you like to upgrade?” What he didn’t tell us was this “upgrade” would be $3 more dollars. (Odd to charge more for the healthier side dish). Surely tossed greens are not that much more expensive than pasta! Nevertheless, this place is popular and for a good reason, so make a reservation in advance!
This restaurant is very large in capacity; it has too many tables to serve food in a timely manner. Waited for food for over an hour. Food was pretty good but wait was not worth it.
We came during busy brunch hours and received slow service with the priority being the outside patio (not where we were).
Really cool spot. We sat outside on the patio by the fountain. Food, drink, and service were all good. We will be back for sure!
It was a beautiful place! Top notch!
First time at The Abby today for brunch. Nothing but great things to say!! French toast & omelets delicious. Spicy bloody marys awesome 😋
Look forward to our next visit for dinner!
First time there and my husband said we had to come back before our meal was even over.
Out of town company.Seated immediately for reservations. Very accomadating. Service good. Everyone enjoyed meal. Loved the Ambiance.
