The best place to catch live jazz in Portland in an intimate setting with a lively crowd!
Great music. Intimate atmosphere. Excellent experience all round
This is such a great place. Just be aware that food and drink service can be slow during busy shows.
Great local jazz. Beautiful food.
A great venue for Jazz - small, cozy and cool. Plus the pizza is awesome - love the Oregon Truffle and Hot Sausage.
The music was the main event (and sell worth the visit!) but the amazing pizza and friendly yet highly proficient service would make us regulars if we lived in Portland. A small space but great vibe!
Great place. Food and service
Whomever books the music does an outstanding job!
My only gripe with this room is that it is small. So book reservations and book them early. If you are able to get a table in the front, you will be very comfortable. If you are able to get one of the taller tables in the back with stools that have backs on them, you will be okay. The other tables with stools are very uncomfortable to sit at.
The caliber of music they are booking seems to be very good.
And the pizza is excellent and there is a full bar.
The staff is nice.
I had a great evening with friends listening to Chris Brown and his amazing band. The beer and food were top notch.
The seating was horrible, placed us next to the kitchen, with backs against the wall with a table right in front of us. So we could push the table out at all, couldn’t even get my legs under the table. It was so tight and I’m very small. The table to the side of us was so close we kept hitting Arms.
Music was fabulous, even though we were there specifically for Tom Grant. Servers were wonderful and food was OK. Next time we hope to be seated at chairs. Stools with no backs are uncomfortable after awhile. Great to have jazz music!
I love the experience at The 1905. The jazz band playing and the Jam Session is fun and fabulous. You never know who is going to show up and play. There is so much talent and with the musicians that Ron Steen knows that come to town, you never know who you are going to experience. I enjoyed hearing the piano played by a member of Santana! Cool... Then Tom Grant comes periodically and he has a wonderful voice and excellent on the piano. There are plenty of younger musicians that share their rising talent with us. It amazes me the youth that come to play. Plus the food is great! The best hand made pizza and salads are wonderful!
Amazing food, service and music!
Very cute little (emphasis on little) place. Very Intimate, some seating uncomfortable. Food/service/ music great!
I really like this place because of the quality jazz, food and atmosphere. A good jazz club has been needed ever since Jimmy Maks closed. I know there is also Jack London Revue, but I haven't been there yet so can't comment on that place. Anyway, the only problem is the service. Just like others have been saying in their reviews, the female server we had was impatient and had an attitude problem. And just as others have said, she had a problem with splitting the check. This is the year 2020. Nobody carries cash. We were a party of five asking to split the check two ways, not five ways. That should be completely reasonable in this day and age. As much as I love the jazz, food and atmosphere, a server with a bad attitude can ruin the whole experience. So unfortunately for now anyway, I would have a hard time bringing back guests until they do something about the server situation. I will however still recommend it for the other reasons mentioned.
Good food and great music. A cozy intimate venue for hearing great jazz. They have some rules though. In addition to the cover there is a minimum food and/or beverage charge of $10 per person. Also your reservation only gets you 90 minutes. After that you may be asked to leave for the next wave of reservations. The pizza is expensive but good. And for $26 you get an 18 inch artisan in my case italian sausage pizza. It was delicious. They were extremely busy and we were about the last to order. I think we waited about 30 mins for the pizza to arrive, piping hot. I took slices home. Reheated on pizza setting in microwave was almost as good as fresh. No skimping on the cheese either.
Amazing music! Definitely recommend The 1905.
Very interesting drinks, great food, and wonderful jazz which never disappoints.
good food & drink, great music, excellent service -
Great music and super good pizza and drink in an intimate space where we can share our love of jazz with the rest of the attentive audience and feel personally connected to the band! Owners’ concern for a fine customer experience is also reflected in the staff’s friendly and efficient service. 😍
Love the music and hand made pizza. This is a fun place to go with friends that love jazz and casual atmosphere. The staff is friendly and helpful if you don't know what to order. You can also watch them make the pizza and fling the dough....
Best jazz, pizza and cocktails in Portland!!!
Absolutely awesome experience.. Love the atmosphere...
Enjoyed dinner and the music. Nice venue for a romantic date.
We were there before it got busy so we had no trouble finding a seat (or parking). Our bartender/server was attentive and helpful. The GF pizza crust is REALLY good! I would love to go back!
This is a classy and wonderful establishment. One always feels welcome and the quality of food and music is fabulous for a date night, a relaxing evening out and it’s a great place for gathering of friends. It’s amazing!
Grace is the best server!
Our second time coming to 1905, and it was a really nice evening. Pizza was excellent — way better than we remembered from the previous visit. Caesar salad, though very non-traditional, was also very good. Service was reasonable, considering the fact that the place was busy and probably a bit understaffed. But our real reason for going in the first place was the music, which was outstanding. The Tony Pacini Trio provided just style of jazz we went there hoping to hear; they were the best part of a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
This is a great place to see live jazz. The musicians are top notch. I don't love that I pay a cover and then buy a nice meal but I assume the cover goes to the musicians, so I roll with it. Definitely get a reservation. This pizza is good. The drinks are good. So, go!
Amazing pizza and even better music, featuring the Cory Limuaco Trio!
Best Live Music Venue in Portland! That's if you like Jazz/Blues!
Always pleased when coming here! Not only is the food 10/10 , the jazz music elevates it even more. Great place to just hang out with some friends, grab a drink.
Oregon truffle pizza
Good food, great music, nice venue. Good plafevfor date might
Ryan was a very attentive server. The Jazz from Jack Radsliff’s band was very smooth and pleasant. The kitchen put candles on the pizza for our friend! Thank you Aaron for saving local Jazz for all of us to enjoy along with great drink and food!
I had heard a lot of good reviews from friends and was looking forward to checking it out finally! I was sure the music would be good and pizza is always good to me, but everything way exceeded my expectations! My friend got the mushroom and truffle pasta and insisted everyone at the table try it--it was sooo tasty and rich and lovely, and it was especially sensual trying that while the band was playing a ballad. The pizza, too, was deliciously seasoned and the drinks were tasty too! I was glad the sparkling lemonade was more tart than sweet, and my friends who got cocktails said they were really tasty for how strong they were! The server was also very helpful with suggesting drinks suited for their tastes. Michalangela was playing the night we went, and we were really digging her and her band's sound! She had some real tasty vocals and harmonies from modular synth, and we were OBSESSED with the pianist, who was brilliant! They were super kind and chatted with us during intermission.
We had a great time! The beet salad was amazing as well as the truffle pizza and hot Italian sausage pizza. Great ambiance with wonderful live music! Can’t wait to come back soon again!
Came for the music, which we loved. Exceptional trio, original music played with intensity and fun. Loved the venue ... modest cover charge for musicians, superb food and terrific overall ambiance.
My new favorite spot for jazz in Portland. Every muscian I have seen here has been stellar.
We saw the John Pizzarelli trio. Fantastic music. Great drinks at the late show. Unfortunately no desserts served there. This is a not to miss venue for jazz and friendship.
