Excellent food and service but would have appreciated the server mentioning the extra charges for vegetables instead of rice...not a dealbreaker but still
We were a party of eight and we couldn't ask for more attentive service.
We went on a Saturday night, it was not only a full house, but someone was celebrating their 40th birthday, so the noise level was quite high. We were a party of 7. We ordered everything from the lamb, to the fish, to even a turkey burger, and it was all very good. What impressed me the most was, as busy as they were the service was OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! I highly recommend Thavma, so much that we have been back twice.
Most delicious and consistently fine and varied menu.
overall very good--and good value--was there for lunch but would certainly try dinner--
3 if us dined here for the first time. The food was delicious. We will be back!
This was a great Greek meal. Honestly from somebody who has visited Greece before I think this was actually spectacular for the price point. I did not read the fine print and did not realize that this restaurant was BYOB. I actually found it really neat that people were walking in with vodka bottles and wine to have on their table. We do not have that in the area where I live. I don’t see it as a downfall I think it’s actually a good thing as it saves a lot of money.
A good "go to" local restaurant when you want something different. There are so few Greek restaurants and this one has a particularly interesting menu. I like that it's a byob since I know what I am drinking.
Food was great! We will comeback again!
The food was amazing and the service was excellent. We loved our celebration lunch at Thavma.
Great place for Mediterranean food, and very friendly and helpful service. Only drawback is that they do not serve alcoholic beverages. Can BYOB, but since it was our first time there, we did not know what they did not have and what we could do.
Food was wonderful. Server was not very attentive.
Great service from wonderful staff, and the food was delicious as well! I highly recommend both the chicken santorini and the coconut shrimp special. We also ordered the grilled octopus as a starter - my SO loved it! I not so much because it had a slight "fishy taste," but I am a very picky eater and dislike fish in general. Overall, it was a great experience and I look forward to visiting again!
Loved this hummus. Puta falafel wrap was amazing. Highly recommend especially if you love hummus.
Delicious food and excellent service.
Consistently good food at fair prices each and every visit...
beautiful night on the patio, waiter was very good, service was a little slow but I think he was the only server so understandable. Food was good
The food is probably the best in Livingston. The service is top notch and dining on the patio is great and very quiet.👍👍👍
Food was delicious as usual and at first they thought that there would be a wait for us to be able to eat on the patio but tried and found a spot for us outside. Perfect nite to eat outside!
Was delicious next time I would love to sit outside
Very poor service. I felt treated like cattle -- impersonal, actually neglectful service. Our server was handling too many tables, it seemed, both inside and on the patio. She hardly cast a glance in the direction of our table of 8. It started with an empty host desk at the door; we waited for 2-3 minutes until someone appeared. Half the table got water, half not. Half got silverware, half not. This involved a lot of arm-waving, trying to catch someone's attention. Food is mediocre. Pita and spreads were tasty but overpriced, I thought, at $19 for 6 tiny bowls. Greek salad was excellent with a light, yet tasty dressing. Main course of lamb and orzo was too salty yet tasteless (how can that be?). It longed for some sort of aromatic seasoning. Rice pudding dessert was tasty and not too sweet. I would not go back. Why? My experience was that they do not value their guests.
Terry, I'm sorry to hear about your unfavorable experience last Saturday evening. Yes, with the nice weather on the patio that evening in the 7'oclock hour we saw tremendous volume and it seems we failed you. I spoke to my manager and your server and they weren't under the impression that things went this horribly wrong. Sometimes all it takes is a simple mention to staff takes that you are unhappy and we will always do our best to make you happy.
First time @Thavma and definitely will return. Great food and service. Thank you.
Outdoors on a beautiful night is amazing!
Have eaten here many times and the food is consistently good . My only issue is that the servers need to be taught not to bring out the entree while the customer is still eating their appetizer! We were finishing the hummus special appetizer and there was a server e our salads - we pushed the hummus aside to make room and continued to eat both courses. Then the server arrived with our entrees even though we were clearly still working on our salads. We asked to have the entrees brought back to the kitchen so we could finish our salads first. Looked up 5 minutes later and the server was back again with our entrees even though we were still eating our salads! This was very annoying. Server blamed the kitchen for being “too busy” and making her bring out the food (again). No one wants food piled on and feel they are being rushed - and no, no one was waiting for our table - there were a number of empty tables.
Definitely a favorite. Hummus special is awesome. Short ribs can be mindblowing. I really like the staff. Usually super helpful and they get us--or at least they do a great job of having us think they do. Nice weather? Sit outside on the deck.
Hard to find waitress
Took a long time to get water
I like Thavma grill for its Greek food. It’s always good. Lots of variety. Server may not have been totally on his game tonight but that didn’t affect a nice dining experience. Wish they had wine!
We sat outside on a beautiful evening and had a great dinner.
Superb food from an extensive menu served by friendly wait staff. A number of Greek foods rarely seen in other restaurants.
Started with zucchini chips. Afterward Lamb kabobs, Chicken Santorini, and all the shrimp / scallop dishes are delicious. Generous portions, attentive servers. Enjoyed sitting outdoors
Difficult in this area to find an excellent Greek~Mediterranean restaurant. Thavma fits the bill. Everything that we ordered was delicious. Wonderful appetizers, main course and dessert. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We took our granddaughter and her boyfriend out to dinner. They love Greek food. They aren’t from this area. They said it was a really great meal.
Very much enjoyed our lunch at THAVMA. Food was really fresh and delish. The only downside was the price.... kinda costly for lunch fare.
Delicious food ! The eggplant dish with campanada was outstanding! So we’re zucchini chips& tziki sauce.
All 4 dinners were excellent. As was the staff & it’s a BYOB
Sorry, dissapointed. Went for kamb kabob but, couldn't get past the gristle. Tried to eat two pieces before giving up.
James, Sorry to hear about your poor experience. If it's not too much trouble, can you email me or call 973-992-8999 about your lamb dish. Its curious as we hand butcher all our kabobs from fresh cuts of meats from our purveyors to ensure the product we put we serve doesn't have this. Thank you for your feedback.
Not as good this time as it usually is... Vegetables a little mushy and chicken a little dry... but I'll be back.
Excellent as always
2nd time there. The food is absolutely delicious, and prepared perfectly. Bring your favorite wine and life is good.
We have dined at Thavma Grill on many occasions, but this meal was exceptional. We were seated immediately at an outside table. Perfect: it was our anniversary and it was a beautiful evening. Our server (Ricardo) was marvelous. I left my bottle of wine in the car, so my wife went to get it (she moves faster than me), but Ricardo offered to get it for me (not likely to happen, but the offer was appreciated). For dinner, we started with hummus and went on to a spinach salad with grilled octopus, lamb & shrimp shish kabob and a village salad with grilled calamari. I expected an appetizer-size spinach salad, but the remainder added to dinner the following night. In sum, everything was prepared the way we like it and it was a terrific evening. The one problem with dining on the patio is the noise from Rt 10 below. Nothing they can do about that.
