I absolutely LOVE this place! This was our third time having our weekly date at Thanal, and each time I walk in, I get excited for the experience. I also tend to order WAY more food than I can consume in one meal- just for the option of eating leftovers the next day. Thank you for the wonderful food!
Terrific place a block away from our hotel. Nice people, great service, great food , prices were veey fair. No complaints , would highly recommend, do it again.
I'm a big outside diner, forecast was poor, made inside res, then got there, was beautiful night, they did let us grab the last outside table for 2. I ordered soup ('we're out of that'...) and lamb, friend had app/breads and entree as well. First app came out +/- 30 mins later, then an entree and another app +/- 30 mins after that, then the final entree after another +/- 30 mins. No apologies, no 'the kitchen is backed up', nothing... Server seemed to want to be anywhere else but at the restaurant. Overall the food was good. I try to be supportive of restaurants in general and specifically of late, but would I rush back? Unfortunately no...
Before booking I confirmed if they could make any dishes without onion and garlic. They stated they could make Saag and Tadka lentils. When I got there all seemed to be good. They then stated they could not make the Saag. The lentils were my back up and I could not eat them so I did not eat. The rest of my party had a great experience. They loved their meals and enjoyed the several apps and main dishes. It all looked tasty and the service was polite. I think I’m general it seems like a great place to eat and I’m sure my SO could go back. I’m only a little annoyed because I prepped ahead of time only to be disappointed and hungry.
The place was packed. Service was very attentive and nice but SLOW!! The food was delicious. It is obvious they were severely understaffed.
Never had Indian food before! From NYC and Found this place on Open table so I had an idea of what I wanted to eat after going though a few reviews and reading the menu in advance. Can’t recall the names of everything but the tikka marsala and butter chicken were amaze as well as the lamb rice dish of whoms name I am totally forgetting. The spicy cauliflower dish (agin, name I can’t recall- eeek!) was delish ! Soooo spicy and delicious. I LOVE spicy food and thick curry and my guy and I have huge appetites and had plenty to take home. Enjoy this place! I know we did!
The food was fabulous and the service is friendly.
Food was amazing, service was great and it was so cute inside. It was a great place to catch up with an old friend!
Best Indian food in the city.
The lighting could’ve been better,
Moving from England I’ve found it tough to find a good Indian where we have a lot of it. I always come here, very good
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant with great food, check it out. Support our neighborhood.
Fabulous food. If you're truly looking for authentic Indian cuisine with lots of options,, this is the place. We chose to eat inside, which the restaurant isn't fully set back up to accommodate but they did it for us. For starters, we had the Tandoori chicken ( excellent) and vegetable samosa ( beyond excellent). For our entrees we had Chicken Chettinad and Lamb Vindaloo. When I tell you that the seasoning all came together to have a celebration in these 2 dishes, believe me!! Neither of us had ever had either dishes so it was quite a delight to try something new and completely be wowed!
Coming to Center City might deter you because of the parking but I found street parking within one block during rush hour. My guest used the parking lot across the street. So parking really isn't an issue.
If there was any room for improvement, I'd have to say that it was the drinks. We both had mojitos which were about average. They didn't have orange juice to make a mimosa ( not sure if that's always or just that night). The waitress told us they don't really do cocktails.
The place is very popular and I strongly recommend reservations. But all and all, we will continue to go out of our way to come back to this restaurant.
I thought the food was outstanding! Servers were very friendly and informative. Was a bit slow because there were only two servers working, but that was fine with us; tho it would’ve been nice to have something to munch while we waited.
We had samosas which were excellent, delicately flavoured. Mains were butter chicken, lamb korma and a mushroom entree that stole the show.
Definitely will come back and I’ll get delivery as well. Love this place!
The food is amazing! Lively selection of dishes on the menu. I would definitely recommend this place to those looking for quality, tasty indian food. The live jazz music is an additional great touch for the customers.
First time at Thanal. We were excited to find a local Indian restaurant as we recently moved to Fairmount. Service was quick and friendly. The cauliflower appetizer was awesome. Veg Samosa ok; we've had better - prefer chunkier stuffing. Chana masala was ok; not my favorite - prefer more intense Indian flavoring. It was light and creamy - almost like a Campbell tomato soup with chickpeas. Naan was good and the Tandoori Chicken was awesome! Will definitely go back to try other dishes.
Great food and location! Nice menu …not too overwhelming.
Great neighborhood restaurant. Would highly recommend.
Beautiful food and gracious hospitality. Thanks!
The food was very good, but the service was slow. However, the cold appetizer came quickly so we did not mind waiting for the entree. I was told that they are planning to restart happy hour and I would definitely return for that.
All wonderful. Food excellent. Pleasant outdoor setting with attentive service.
Amazing service as always, plus a surprise birthday celebration. The staff is amazing and always go above and beyond!
I took my 9 year old daughter out for dinner and the food is excellent. The service is great too! The live music was a plus. Everything is fresh and served hot.
The restaurant is not even close to being back to its former self as far as bar, service, atmosphere, etc. the food is this restaurant’s saving grace. It is outstanding. Currently be prepared to sit outside at a busy intersection that is not what should be expected now. Also the bar menu is gone for now, so drinks are very basic.
Their cook has changed and the food is not the same. Are used to visit them three to four times a year but now it will be zero
Basal Rasam soup was outstanding!
Great service and food, my family and I will be going back for sure!
The food was delicious and our waiter was knowledgeable.
Great food! Drinks a little pricey and not very big.
Food, service, and environment were all 10/10! Can't wait to return
Good food and service, with plenty vegetarian options!
Arrived a few minutes before they opened for dinner, it was a rainy, cold evening and they invited us in immediately. Staff was very curious, prompt, and food was wonderful! Would highly recommend.
We discovered this through Open Table reviews while visiting Philly. Absolutely fantastic Indian restaurant with a modern bistro flair. Can’t say enough how friendly they were as well as the high quality of the food. Without a doubt get the Gobi Manchurian (cauliflower appetizer)...just amazing. Also the Tandoor was some of the best I’ve had outside of London! Terrific place
Amazing food. Great service. Romantic atmosphere. Loved it.
Best indian restaurant!
Great customer service
Excellent food and service—definitely worthy of a repeat.
The food is very good but it took very long. If you can wait for extra one hour, you will be happy with the food.
Great experience. Sat outside and there was live music and a good vibe. Things seemed a bit hectic but service was still great and received our food/drinks in good time. Everything was delicious, would definitely come back again.
The minute we walked in, we knew we’d enjoy this meal. Amazing flavors, great service- we love this place!
