This was the best Indian food I have had! Chili paneer is absolutely amazing. The service is top notch and they also have a great drink selection.
All the food was really tasty and delicious, the only downside to our experience is that the food did take quite a while to come to our table and the dishes were brought out at separate times so not everyone at our table was able to eat at the same time.
Born and raised in Kerala, this by far reminded me of my mom delicious and loving cooking. All dishes were made at the moment . Drinks were great and staff was wonderful.
Excellent service and each dish tastier than the one before.
Amazing!! From stepping in the door until we left, we were extended amazing service. The food had such amazing depth of flavor... everything we tried was absolutely delicious. A little on the pricey side but worth it for a special occasion.
Great, as usual. This place has never let me down.
My date is a vegan. The server wasn’t super knowledgeable about the menu and recommended a starter that was not vegan. She also did not seem very concerned with providing a positive dining experience. We waited close to 30 min for our entrees after finishing our starters. I would not recommend the restaurant based on my experience.
Very good South Indian food
One of my favorite Indian restaurants in Philadelphia. I would highly recommend the mutton sukka, and gongura mutton curry
Food was delicious! We had never had Indian food so we depended on our waitress recommendations which were outstanding. She was a great server. Will definitely go back!
This lunch buffet is worth making a reservation (a must if you will arrive after 11:55am). You don't really see your server again once you're seated, so don't plan on ordering a cocktail. The food is beyond excellent and you're never rushed out, no matter the line to get in.
Always delicious food. More than normal excellent service. Look forward to going to Thanal as often as possible
Wonderful Indian flavors and caring service! We have been to Thanal three times and come away more impressed with each visit. Large menu with many diverse choices - everything so appealing it’s hard to decide what to order.
Extremely friendly staff and management. Cocktails are creative and pare well with the food. Food is outstanding!
Awesome flavors, good service and ambiance. Will come back.
Went on X mas. Service was great, food perfect (although we should have asked for no raw onions in Chaat) and nice selection of beers. We will definitely return
I love this place. Best Indian food in Philadelphia. Small and always busy. Amazing service. Amazing food. Amazing flavor.
Excellent neighborhood place. Good for takeout too
The food, as well as the service, was absolutely outstanding! We will definitely be back again.
Enjoyed well prepared and seasoned Indian food with a wide choice of regions. A bit pricey for Indian, it is an upscale tavern. Service was helpful and attentive. It was quick enough for us to get to our concert in a timely manner. We will go there again with many enticing options to explore.
Tasty food, and really inventive cocktails. Indian food with a difference, it's not like anywhere else in Philly.
This place was great! I was struggling to find a vegan friendly location by the Franklin Institute. Thanal fit the bill. The service was top notch. We were paid close attention to, but not hovered over (we ate at the bar). The HH cocktails were super tasty. There were so many vegan options on the menu that I had trouble picking what to eat. That is not something I'm used to at all. Definitely check it out.
I recommend making reservations if you are going on a busy dining out night.
Lunch buffet is excellent, probably the best Indian buffet I've ever had.
As a first timer I was very impressed. The service was great and the food was flavorful. Will definitely go again.
Very good food, very good service. Will go there again.
Excellent food and service. Bill was lower than expected - when does that happen?
Very friendly staff, and some of the best Indian food I had anywhere. It is highly recommended.
Food was excellent!
Well balanced Indian dishes with good sized portions in a clean and comfortable dining room.
The food was excellent and the service was very good. Highly recommend for Indian food, and will return next time we are in Philly.
Thanal Indian Tavern serves the best Indian food in Center City, hands down! It is our new go-to spot- can't wait for many more visits in the future. A word of advice to everyone- order the butter chicken! It's life-changing :)
Our new favorite Indian restaurant. Went there with my daughter a couple of weeks ago and back with my wife and our daughter as quickly as I could. Outstanding selection, preparation and service. Our thanks to Sean, who does a wonderful job navigating patrons through the choices.
Probably one of the best Indian restaurants in Philadelphia. The food is really good, but the service can be a little slow. Highly recommend this place.
Unquestionably the best Indian restaurant in Center City. No close second. I went with a friend of Indian descent whose wife cooks Indian food, and they both love it there, too.
Delicious buffet. Loved the food. There were enough vegetarian options in the buffet. This is my third time here and will absolutely return. Highly recommended!
Chicken 65 appetizer was amazing, as was the chicken vindaloo. Great cocktail list, naan was inexpensive and very fresh. We can’t wait to go again!
Pros: attentive service, solid old fashioned (a rarity at Indian restaurants), dosa options, solid saag paneer and great desserts.
Cons: meh small plates, the feeling of wanting just a little more out of each item...
The restaurant need to hire more staff
This was some of the best Indian food I have ever had in Philadelphia! Super friendly staff.
