First time at Thalassa and it was fabulous. Staff made you feel at home. Handsome inside with multiple dinning rooms and nice bar area. Wine list is extensive. My wife and I had the Greek salad and zucchini chips to start, both were delicious. We then shared the Dorado and a side of lobster mashed potato’s, yum!
Superb service with our waiter Madison. Very accommodating with menu. Wonderful food. Excellent wine suggestions.
Thalassa has been a family favorite for nearly a decade and it never disappoints. Their service has always been attentive but not annoying. Of course, the food is the main event. Freshest seafood prepared simply but expertly. Nothing compares.
Great food. Better service.
We had an excellent dinner, good food, nice place and excellent service. Will return.
Once again proved to have the best quality seafood prepared precisely right.
Had a great time!
I always come back to this place for the grilled Octopus.
Its out of this World!
Had high expectations based on reviews online and was very disappointed. I thought this would be a romantic place, but there are neon lights that make you feel like you are in a hotel or empty club or something. The restaurant was fairly empty on a Saturday night (no reservation necessary). We were recommended a Primitivo wine that was pretty bad, hard to finish the bottle, which is rare that you dislike a wine more as you continue to drink it. We had the octopus (great) and stuffed calamari (pretty good, but mostly cheese so for two people, it’s not the best shareable option), and split the Black Sea bass as a main (also delicious). However even though the restaurant was not busy, they left our empty plates for 20 minutes without clearing them while they just walked around us. The free chocolates and cookies that everyone raves about are pretty mediocre. So the conclusion is, the food is good, the service and wine was very bad, the ambiance is really strange, and I definitely won’t be back.
Outstanding! Everything was delicious! the seafood soup, the octopus, the truffle crab salad, the greek salad with skinned lucky tomatoes and organic feta, the kaitaifi scallops, giant shrimp and of course greek desserts. Beautiful decor and excellent service.
There was an incredibly LOUD party downstairs and it ruined the meal!
The Server Gabriel really made us feel special
His recommendations and level of attention to us couldn’t have been better
We will definitely return to the restaurant, especially if we can request Gabriel
Dr Harmon and NADINE Stein
Second time here in two weeks. Love the food, the staff and the place. Great fish restaurant bit their appetizers are quite special. Had scallops in kataifi wth salsa which is amazing. Grilled octopus is excellent. For main we all wanted lamb chops and they created a main from the lamb appetizer. Great racks of lamb done on a fire grill tastes like the islands.
Gabriel was our main waiter. We love him. He looked after us like family. Ask for him.
Recently moved to the neighborhood and glad we finally made it to Thalassa. The food is excellent and the service is exceptional. Madison was extremely attentive and his recommendations were on point. The fresh fish dishes, Greek cheeses, and wine were all superb. Highly recommend 10/10.
The service was the highlight- The food was really good and they helped select a really good wine that was very reasonably priced.
Delicious food, excellent service and hosting. Will highly recommend!
Fantastic overall experience
Beyond amazing grilled octopus every time
we basically never have a terrible but expensive dinner in manhattan - this was the exception. there was no welcome, the maitre d asked us to sit down and wait before greeting us or taking our coats (about 10 - 15 minutes), then he took our carts asa asked us to wait again (10 minutes). the restaurant was not crowded - lots of empty tables. weird, right?
the table service was equally odd and disconnected - no charisma, and only a basic ability to describe the food.
the fish (branzino) was fine - but supposed to be grilled yet no sign of grilling or flavor. the greens were overcooked. lamb shank tasteless, rubbery, and truly inedible. desert was good.
atmosphere: the layout and design is odd and again disconnected - there is a wide "feature" stair in the middle of the dining room and tables are in a single ring around it, so one feels in transit - as if on a balcony. the bathrooms are down those riser-lit stairs, through a middle of nowhere couch/ seating area - a room with a long table, and then a wine cellar.
Great food and service. We were there at lunch so it was pleasantly quiet. We were scouting out the food for a catered event. We were convinced!
Fantastic place for a date with your significant other. We came in late on a Wednesday, was on the quiet side but lovely ambience, super attentive service from Madison, and great, authentic Greek food for a very reasonable price. Special shout out being thoughtful about a menu that includes vegetarian and gluten-free options - very smart.
Would absolutely recommend.
Great place, service was great and food was great!
Food and service was great.
Fish was very fresh.
I would go to this place every week just for a casual meal.
We eat in Manhattan all the time and this place was great. The food, atmosphere and service were all wonderful. My husband and I had a great time!! You should def go!!
My wife and I are long-term Tribeca residents (we literally live down the block from Thalassa) and enthusiastic foodies. So for us, Thalassa is a neighborhood go-to for dinner, but is a restaurant we would definitely travel to.
The cuisine is very authentic, fish is the speciality of the house (but don’t get me talking about the lamb chops), and the wine list is one of the better Greek selections in NYC—love, love, love the Assyrtiko. The service is consistently impeccable. Our waiter and somm this evening, Madison, really provided white glove service.
And oh by the way, the 3 course tasting menu is a delicious and divine deal that you shouldn’t miss. It would be a sin not to indulge in the yogurt martini for dessert.
Nice dinner friendly competent service Impressive ambience
Great dinner! The food was very good and the service was impeccable!
Awesome seafood with fantastic ambience and service.
extremely attentive staff - waited maybe one minute to be seated & was served complimentary champagne for the "wait". pre-fix menu offered year-round. great service. tastey food. would definitely recommend.
Fantastic service from coat check, water service, waiter giving fantastic suggestions and complimentary dessert wine. Came for restaurant week but will definitely be back!
Ten of us were here to celebrate a birthday. We all agreed that this was a great experience. Very tasty food. Pleasant service. Beautiful surroundings. And a great selection on the "restaurant week" menu.
Great food and service
Wonderful dining experience overall!
Great food. Excellent Service.
Madison was excellent.
Excellent experience! Went for Rest Week lunch and the food and service was wonderful. We will definitely return to this lovely establishment!!!
Had a reservation , they were overbooked couldn’t seat me , ate at the bar , said would comp on drinks and Appetizers -that never happened.
This restaurant used to be a lot better. The dining room ambiance is okay, but it is stuck in the early 2000’s. The staff is nice though they did forget when I said it was my boyfriends birthday. The apps were far better than the entrees of snapper and branzino which were tasteless and everything on the plate had the same coloring. The desserts are not to be bothered with. Crepes were good enough though had a blob of Greek yogurt on the side and the parfait of yogurt and fruit was unappetizing.
Excellent service and food. 3 time there and have not had a bad experience. Highly recommended.
Overall, the menu is filled with excellent choices and we ordered both on and off the restaurant week menu (restaurant week menu is a good deal at these prices). Both entrees (lavraki and crab stuffed red snapper) were excellent, as were the two appetizers (octopus salad and horiatiki salad). The only limiting factor was dessert because that menu is weighted towards traditional Greek desserts, which, while very tasty, may not be as broad a dessert selection as some would like (we ordered the bougatsa which tasted great, but was a little different than the bougatsa you get on the islands in Greece). Service was excellent throughout. I ordered a custom drink from the bar and it was excellent. Water was filled and plates were emptied seamlessly. Beautiful rooms both upstairs and downstairs.
Overall, our experience with Thalassa was that the food is meticulously prepared, well conceived and great tasting. It is a refreshing departure from the concept at many places that more butter and more salt make something taste better, which often works, but sometimes the food gets very heavy. This restaurant’s approach seems to be that very fresh food combined with thoughtful choice combinations makes for great cuisine. And we wholeheartedly agree.
This is our new favorite restaurant in NYC. Highly recommended.
The interior is nice, the seafood is delicious, the service is wonderful, it feels good, it is not noisy. So satisfactory in all. There is no reason not to go. I like this restaurant!!
Went with my friend for lunch during restaurant week. We were both happy with the food, ambiance & service. It was a very enjoyable experience.
Perfect Saturday date night - great ambiance, friendly waitstaff and great food. We opted for the prix fixe (branzino and lamb chops were the two options) and we thought it was good price per value. Showed up on the early side around 6:30pm, and by 7:30pm it was pretty much a full restaurant though the tables are spaced out nicely so we never felt troubled by other guests. Would definitely return.
