Thalassa Ratings and Reviews
The ambiance is great and it's a pretty restaurant and they are trying... just something missing from making it memorable! The free wine and cheese promotion was fabulous, but the food just wasn't fabulous-- but if they keep trying it could be an amazing place.
Our meal was reasonably good, but not great -- with a couple of positive exceptions. Based on the 24 food rating in Zagat's, I was a little bit disappointed. On the positive side, the scallop appetizer was excellent, as was the pear desert. But the lamb shank and the baklava were standard fare and a bit bland. The entre menu was very limited (and they were out of one of main dishes early on). The staff was friendly and became more convivial as the evening progressed. The decor was innovative and very consistent with Tribeca (in a good way). Bottom line: We had a good meal, but other high end (and middle range) Greek restaurants in the City provide a better dining experience for a comparable or less expensive price.
This place is AMAZING.. my fiance and I went to Thalassa for a nice quiet dinner and it was just perfect. From the minute we walked in the service was impeccable. The Martri'd Niko was very pleasant and gave us a tour of the place when we mentioned that we were looking for a venue for our engagement party. Our food was OUT OF THIS WORLD! I totally recommend the Lamb Shank and Pino Noir. My Fiance had the Special which was Red Snapper and she loved it just as much as I with my Lamb. For appetizer we shared a salad which was very good and for dessert I just had a cup of Tea and my Fiance had the Baklava. We were surprised with the 2 complementary glasses of desert wine that came with the Baklava. Overall we are def coming back!
The spacious restaurant felt as though we were in a far away land. Tables were elegantly spaced and sophisticated wall design and plants surrounded us while feeling a natural breeze. It was a joy to be served in such a special atmosphere and the food was truly outstanding.
This was an outstanding dining experience and the service was attentive but not intrusive. The octopus appetizer was just wonderful and tender with great grill flavor. The arugula salad was perfectly seasoned and the snapper was perfectly prepared and very well presented. When I explained what I wanted in a wine, I got exactly what I wanted. We will definitely go back again and tell friends all about it. It is a great restaurant for a special occasion.
This restaurant was so wonderful. The fish selections were amazing. The variety! And the most interesting part was you can go and choose the fish you wanted prepared! I've never encountered an experience like that which was beautiful. The fish were so fresh, and full of different colors.
Their wine list was also expansive to match what you were eating, which was nice. Had a great time, will definitely go back!
Had a bit of a odd experience. Plus side was very, very good food, Great wine list, and a really cool decor. BUT, the waitress was terrible (they could have been short staffed that night?) and by 8:30 on a Saturday night they were out of 3 entrees, 1 appetizer, and the lemon potatoes (how can you be out of potatoes?) from a limited menu. There were very long waits between every segment of the meal and the timing The service was very inconsistent. I would go back for the food because it was great, both original and well prepared. And the wine list was exceptional. But I would hope for much better service.
The food was very good but overall the experience was not great. Apparently there was a private party going on upstairs and our waiter didn't come back to our table at all after taking our dinner order. He claimed to be busy with the party upstairs but that is not a good excuse to never check in on your tables. Based on my experience I have no need to go back to Thalassa again.
There were 3 of us. One had to travel from NJ and experienced great travel delays. Granted our reservation was for 6pm. We were told that it would not be a problem. My friend didnt show up until well after 7pm. There was a new person seating guests by that time. He informed us that we could only have the table until 8:30pm. Which he was not nice with his tone. We did have a great meal. When our very nice waiter asked if we wanted desert, we informed him that we were told that we could not have the table beyond 8:30pm. He had no clue that was the arrangement and looked embarrassed. He said "oh nooooo, you can stay as long as you want, who said that to you?" We choose to have coffee and left. Would I eat here again? I'm not sure.
The meal was great and we really enjoyed the food.
Throughout the night, we were in constant search for a waiter, and that became a little annoying. We also asked for some of the food to be boxed up to-go, and they didn't close the lids tightly, and the sauce from the fish and lamb shank fell into the bag. It made the bag break and got sauce all over our food.
The food was incredible!! I was hesitant to order steak at a Greek restaurant that is known for their fresh fish, but the steak was prefect! And my dining companion's fish outstanding as well! It is definitely worth adding to the list of restaurants to revisit!
We used to love Thalassa but since we moved out of the neighborhood we have not been back.
Overall the food was verygood - but for the 30 minutes treck downthere from the UES it wasn't worth it.
The bartender took several minutes to great us and take our orders - and the bar was far from busy-after he brought my husband's drink he "suggested" i change my drink order. He felt I would enjoy a "fresh rasberry drink". Not at all in alignment with my previous order but I rarely say no to a recommendation..but the drink (basically a $15 cosmo) was dreadful. My girlfriend drank it - and only becuase she never got her drink and we had to remind the waiter to go fetch it after our first course.New Management maybe?
We went to Thalassa with a group and had a great time. The food was yummy and fresh. The service was attentive and staff was very nice. The scallop appetizer and the Thick Sheep’s Milk Yogurt with Toasted Walnuts & An Assortment of Spoon Sweets were amazing. Everyone was very pleased with their choices. Will go back again.
