Thalassa Ratings and Reviews
Overall, the menu is filled with excellent choices and we ordered both on and off the restaurant week menu (restaurant week menu is a good deal at these prices). Both entrees (lavraki and crab stuffed red snapper) were excellent, as were the two appetizers (octopus salad and horiatiki salad). The only limiting factor was dessert because that menu is weighted towards traditional Greek desserts, which, while very tasty, may not be as broad a dessert selection as some would like (we ordered the bougatsa which tasted great, but was a little different than the bougatsa you get on the islands in Greece). Service was excellent throughout. I ordered a custom drink from the bar and it was excellent. Water was filled and plates were emptied seamlessly. Beautiful rooms both upstairs and downstairs.
Overall, our experience with Thalassa was that the food is meticulously prepared, well conceived and great tasting. It is a refreshing departure from the concept at many places that more butter and more salt make something taste better, which often works, but sometimes the food gets very heavy. This restaurant’s approach seems to be that very fresh food combined with thoughtful choice combinations makes for great cuisine. And we wholeheartedly agree.
This is our new favorite restaurant in NYC. Highly recommended.
This restaurant used to be a lot better. The dining room ambiance is okay, but it is stuck in the early 2000’s. The staff is nice though they did forget when I said it was my boyfriends birthday. The apps were far better than the entrees of snapper and branzino which were tasteless and everything on the plate had the same coloring. The desserts are not to be bothered with. Crepes were good enough though had a blob of Greek yogurt on the side and the parfait of yogurt and fruit was unappetizing.
Perfect Saturday date night - great ambiance, friendly waitstaff and great food. We opted for the prix fixe (branzino and lamb chops were the two options) and we thought it was good price per value. Showed up on the early side around 6:30pm, and by 7:30pm it was pretty much a full restaurant though the tables are spaced out nicely so we never felt troubled by other guests. Would definitely return.
The restaurant is beautiful, the service was excellent and the food was very good. We had been given a gift certificate which was the reason that we chose to come here for our special dinner. Our experience was outstanding and I would not hesitate to return or recommend to friends. The octopus and scallop appetizers were outstanding as were the lamb entrees. But the highlight was the cheese desert paired with sweet wine.
We spent New Year’s Eve there. Service was HORRIBLE.
1) we ordered distilled water, when the server came to our table, he refilled w tap water and I saw him grab our distilled water to fill up another table. This happened a second time and we had to let him know.
2) when we ordered a bottle of wine, he forgot to pour a little bit to taste it. He went directly to pouring the wine into our glasses.
3) when we were leaving, we needed our coats back. We waited for a long time and the server couldn’t find it. He came later to ask if we found it. As if we were supposed to start looking for our coats. We started to do it since they were not looking for it.
4) food was average n the value wasn’t there.
Our third visit within the year confirmed first impressions; consistent in all respects. The staff was attentive but not overbearing, the server (Madison by name) knowledgeable and helpful. The fish remarkably fresh for a Monday holiday. We expect to return.
The Price-Fix menu was a great value and had good choices. We were there on as Wednesday, when they have a someone playing the guitar, and that really added to the lovely ambiance. It is a very pretty place, the service was wonderful and we enjoyed our meal.
Have lived in Tribeca for over a decade but somehow had never had dinner at Thalassa. It was outstanding. Terrific and attentive service and the food was sensational. Our dinners included whole striped bass and whole lavrakia, both deboned nicely, plus appetizers of calamari and crabmeat salad. Would highly recommend this wonderful Greek restaurant particularly seafood lovers. Will be back there again soon for sure.
Went here for a date night splurge with my fiance. We ordered a few apps/small plates and shared an entree. The apps/small plates were the highlight for us - we ordered the octopus dish, stuffed calamari, and the lamb chops - all of which were very tasty. As for the entree we ordered the red snapper, and it was okay - maybe we should've splurged more and ordered something from the fresh market. Overall I loved it - would love to come back for another special occasion or just for a drink and the octopus dish (it was phenomenal).
What a find!!! This restaurant is worth the trip from anywhere. The physical space is warm and inviting. Our waiter, Madison, was helpful, knowledgeable and charming. The menu is extensive including daily specials. We had the grilled octopus appetizer, which Madison recommended, and it was outstanding. It was cooked to perfection - not overdone. We ordered the two entrée specials for dinner, double thick lamb chops and halibut, which we wanted to share. Madison had the kitchen put half of each entrée on our plates. Both were superb. Since neither of us is familiar with Greek wine, Madison recommended one and gave us a taste. And the best is the price. For Manhattan with the superb quality of service and food the price is very moderate. We will be back the next time we visit.
Thalassa went above and beyond in providing excellent service. While waiting for the remainder of our party, we ordered a bottle of wine. They were kind enough to provide us with complimentary cheese and offered to place my flowers in a watered vase for better storage until the remaining party arrived.
The food was exceptional and fresh. The server was very knowledgeable and very friendly. A the end of the dinner, we were offered free bottled water and cookies for the road. Again, the service was impeccable!
NYC Summer Restaurant Week was officially ended on 8/18, but this Greek restaurant extends their restaurant menu until 9/30. The decor and ambience are upscale and beautiful. Service is excellent and it's very easy to find street parking after 7pm. Highly recommend !
