About Thaimee Table (Formerly Ngam)
Long ago chef Ngamprom "Hong" Thaimee left her modeling and television work in Thailand and made her way into the world of food, training under Thailand's most celebrated chef, M.L. Sirichalerm Savsti. Eventually she came to New York, where Thaimee cooked at Jean-Georges' Spice Market & Perry Street. Since 2011, she has helmed Thaimee Table (and, more recently, 2 other Thaimee restaurants in NYC). The Union Square flagship serves modern Thai comfort food, including tom yum soup, kao soy with dumplings, Thai burger with papaya salad, pad Thai with grilled black tiger prawns, and duck larb salad. You'll also find a smaller lunch menu, plus a bar serving wine, beer & cocktails.

Went for lunch with a couple of friends. It was very quiet. We were thrilled that we could be accommodated for vegetarian and gluten free needs for one of our guests. All the food was delicious and portions were fair and filling. We had the green curry, the spicy drunken noodles and the zucchini pad thai. It was all delicious but the starch portion of each dish was a bit small for price. The accompanying veggies and proteins were great. Coconut juice was addictive. We did not have room for dessert after sharing two appetizers. Service was good but a bit distracted considering we were one of two tables in the entire restaurant.
Had a great experience. Took advantage of their happy hour specials. Our favourite part of dinner was dessert. Poached pear was delish.. And their goat cheese, cheesecake was to die for, I savoured every last bite. Visiting from Toronto and the next time I'm in NYC I'll be back!
I came here for a friend's birthday on a Monday night. Happy hour is until 7pm for appetizers ($6-$15) and drinks ($5-$7). For drinks, we all ordered pear lychee sangrias ($7). For food, we ordered the appetizer platter for 2 (mushroom spring rolls, chiang mai fries, green salad, grilled calamari), chicken wings, red curry with chicken, lamb roti pot pie, and zucchini pad thai with shrimp. The portions were smaller than expected but the food tasted great and was actually spicy. I really liked the chiang mai pumpkin/sweet potato fries with the curry sauce, the chicken wings, and the zucchini pad thai - the dishes were interesting and very tasty. The only reason I wouldn't give this place 4 stars was because I didn't like sitting at the communal table since the seats were stools with no backs so people keep bumping into you throughout your whole meal. Also, service was pretty slow though, took a long time to get any waiter to help. Just FYI, they automatically charged 20% tip even though we only had a party of 5 people.
This was a cute little place - great ambiance. I ordered the salmon. Once I received it, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it - it was a small piece of salmon and looked very bland. The salmon was tasty! However it was a really small piece and I ended up having to order an appetizer. I had the chicken wings - I was not a fan.
Ngam is simply terrific. Once you get by the snotty hostess at the front desk that thinks she is a gift to humanity, this spot is special.
Appetizers are unique and full of flavor and the entrees are great - especially the duck! Drinks also are creative and they have a good selection of wines by bottle and glass as well.
We will keep coming back to Ngam over and over, just looking past the greeting.
Excellent lobster dish and the chicken wings were great and I also enjoyed the papaya salad. But that lychee and pear sangria was everything. The pear and cheesecake desserts were awesome. Key lime panna cotta not so much.
Service was great. Ambiance was awesome and the music selections were fantastic. It's tight in there so be prepared to sit close but it was overall a great NYC dining experience.
Dishes are imaginative, not your usual thai food. If you are looking for something conventionally satisfying, this may not be your thing. Some of the spices and flavor profiles are a bit challenging. Many vegetarian and vegan options, plus very savory, meat dishes for carnivores. Young, vibrant ambience, a bit noisy, more of a hot spot than the usual neighborhood thai places. A good change of pace, though I don't think I will be a regular.
It was a busy Saturday night but they got a table ready for us as soon as we arrived for our 9pm reservation. The server did a great job of not coming over too much and just let us have a nice dinner and enjoy each other's company.
We ordered lots of sangria which was great. I ordered Pad See Ew which was good but didn't taste any different than when I get it at my neighborhood hole in the wall restaurant.
Most Thai restaurants say they have vegan or vegetarian options, but actually are unable to make curries or sauces without shrimp paste or oyster sauce. Ngam makes everything from scratch and they actually understand what vegan means! I love their food. They also can make things gluten free which is also rare for a Thai restaurant (due to soy sauce). The brunch is a really great deal. I love this spot.
Very good service--much appreciated as we had theater tickets. Drinks were limited to items available--some on the menu, inexplicably, were not. Waiter apologized. Still, we were a bit disappointed. The cocktail I had (can't remember what it was called) wqas tasty but seemed to have no alcohol in it. Because we were pressed for time, I chose not to send it back. Ditto the "spicy" green curry, which wasn't, despite the little hot pepper next to it on the menu. And the chicken in it was overcooked--perhaps microwave-heated. Nevertheless, we liked the place, and were prepared to write off the disappointments as "stuff happens." I'd go back, ideally with more time to spare, so that corrections could be made where needed. The prices are very reasonable, and the service was first-rate. Definitely worth returning.
I had eaten there once before and was looking forward to a repeat of a great dinner. I ordered the rice noodles with beef and bitter broccoli. The beef was over cooked but the noodles were perfect. There was absolutely no flavor to the dish as if someone had forgotten to season it. I tried adding a squeeze of lime as I always do when I have this dish but there was no saving it. For the first time in 20 years of eating Thai all over the world I was unable to finish and did not bring home the remainder. My friend had the cutie duck with coconut rice and it was delicious. Unfortunately it was served with a lot of sauce in a bowl and just the very small plate the rice came in so she was awkwardly trying to mix the two dishes together on the tiny rice plate. We would have asked for a larger plate had we seen any wait staff again until practically the end of dinner. The lychee sangria was interesting and the goat cheese cheesecake was delicious. The staff needs to learn to check in when the food hits the table, I had to go ask for knives. Not a bad dinner but certainly below expectations.
First time at Ngam and it was awesome. We went based on friends recommendation and loved it. The food had amazing authentic Thai flavor and the restaurant had a great vibe. We will definitely be coming back, highly recommend the green curry, it was amazing!
