We had a great time! The food and drinks were interesting and delicious. The music and atmosphere were lively. Service was well paced but besides that nothing special. A little pricey but we left satisfied. We would definitely dine here again.
Domingo was an amazing server, cocktails were outstanding, and the food was to die for...especially desserts. We tried all three! The outdoor patio was adorable - warm and inviting. I will be back.
This is the best food I’ve ever eaten. Just perfect.
Another perfect dining experience for Chef Voltaggio and crew
2nd time visit...starting to become a fan. The service was ok but food made up for it. My highlight was the chicken and biscuits on the brunch menu. The chive cheddar biscuits gives red lobster's a run for their money. I knew the biscuits were going to be good as soon as I sliced into it. The chives reached out and grabbed my nose as it was placed on the table. The chicken's crunch! Ooooowww Lord! Just give it a try. Now dessert, I never had figgy pudding and only heard it in a Christmas song. Although I'm not a fan of dates this dessert reminded me of the sticky toffee pudding I had weeks prior. Warm desserts is my food love language so this was right in my alley! The layers of textures was perfect! Let's talk about the cinnamon ice cream they paired with this dish. If yall had cinnamon life the cereal this is what it tasted it. I thoroughly enjoyed this! The cinnamon was like no other it had a sensual pleasant heat that lingered your tongue like a nostalgic temptation! I'm not sure what type of cinnamon they used in this ice cream but I need to find it. Good check it out before the change up their menu!
I was an avid fan of Volt. The 1st time I went was my best dining experience of all time, so I have a soft spot for the chef. I was happy to be back in the same building with its familiar details. As before, the food, the team, and the environment was lovely. If you are a chocolate lover, the tiramisu dessert is UNBELIEVABLE. It is a must have as is the beef short rib entree. Simply the best you’ll ever have.
COVID impacted the experience somewhat, but that’s understandable. With a bottle of wine, and each course sampled, the price tag was back to being in Volt territory. My biggest feedback is trying to get someone on the phone...it’s near impossible.
We are lucky to have a chef as talented and as committed to excellence as Brian voltaggio is here in Frederick!
What a wonderful experience! The food was amazing and the service was friendly and professional. We are looking forward to returning.
We had a lovely meal on the patio. Not a very cold day, but there were propane heaters in abundance. All Covid precautions were followed.
Food and drinks were terrific, artfully plated and delicious.
We will return.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of a terrible year. The food was amazing, the service perfect, and the tent was beyond safe. It was a marvelous New Year's Eve dinner.
My wife and I had a 5 pm reservation new years eve. If you like Bourbon based cocktails you will be pleased. Our cocktails (I had a Manhattan and my wife a Bramble) were excellent. The menu is simple and it was easy for us to make our selections. We shared the pufferfish appetizer that was well seasoned, but beware of the bones and our waiter was correct in telling us that we should order a second appetizer since the pufferfish were quite small. The Ahi Tuna appetizer was more filling and satisfying. We both ordered a salad that was hidden among the appetizer section and we are glad we did- the greens were fresh and well blended with the ingredients mixed in resulting in a satisfying second course. My wife thought her Striped Bass was also excellent as was my 16 oz perfectly grilled and seasoned New York strip. The brown rice congee was not to our liking, and the menu could be a little more exciting - otherwise a 5 star meal.
Great tent space that is well set up for comfort and safety...we dined on a cold, rainy day and we’re totally comfortable, even without coats. Staff goes the extra mile on safety protocols, a great experience in trying times.
I was very glad to have learned that Bryan Voltaggio decided to use the space which was formerly dedicated to fine dining under the name of Volt Restaurant and repurpose it as a more casual but equally wonderful dining experience under the name of Thacher & Rye. Both the service and food exceeded expectations. The only drawback to the evening was not having received the french fries we ordered with our meat, but we didn't miss them and certainly didn't need the extra calories! I miss Volt but will not hesitate to return to Thacher & Rye to try out the rest of the menu - including the french fries!
Amazing meal. Everything was great. Cooked perfect and amazing and unexpected flavor. !!
The cocktails are amazing. The first course Beef Carpaccio and second course Ravioli were delightful. We had the NY strip, the burger, Sea Bass and the Fluke were absolutely perfect. The whole experience was amazing and I would highly recommend to everyone.
The drinks to start were great. Local distillery’s were throughout the list and we were impressed with the drinks. The menu was a bit confusing with course style. Puffer fish was decent to start. Unique and a little spicy. The goat cheese ravioli were one of the best bites we had however the crispy uni rice with lobster was very disappointing. A lot of lobster meat however the rice and broth were lacking in seasoning. For entrees the short ribs and grits were good and the burger was simple but really delicious. Highlight of the meal was definitely the chocolate mousse for dessert. Worth another try but was hoping it would be a little more consistent.
Gave ambiance 3 stars because we had outdoor seating. Even though it is tented and there are 4 - 6 heaters, it was still cold and quite blah. It needs to be a little more welcoming. Everything else was excellent- food, service, cocktails.
You will not be disappointed! We live n Montgomery County and Thatcher & Rye is worth the drive! The staff is wonderful and every attentive. The presentation, taste, plate size is spot on. Do yourself a favor and please don’t skip the pasta course. The drinks are expertly crafted and the wine list has many options.
Excellent food and service ! Always a treat...
Great ambiance inside. Service was friendly, attentive, and quick. The pasta courses could be their own feature. The ravioli is so decadent with the creamy goat cheese filling and delicata squash. The kale pasta is earthy and unique. Pairs great with the pesto topping and cheese. The short rib was tender and melted in your mouth. The mushrooms on top were terrific and could be their own plate. Loved the local beer selection as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. Perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Service was wonderful with perfectly spaced out courses. The cocktail with the egg white, the ravioli, and the sticky toffee cake were highlights for me. We will definitely be returning.
Food was a 10/10 but the service was meh
My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate his birthday. We were able to indicate outdoor seating in our reservation and while there was a tent set up it was well ventilated. They treated us to a celebratory glass of bubbles, which was a lovely surprise. The cocktails, the food - especially the steak - it was all delicious.
The perfect way to spend an evening of joy in a tough year.
Food very good, Service very poor. ?? Management . Very disappointed in the service, extremely unprofessional server, management made excuses for the server unprofessional . When you spend $275. for 2, service should be exceptional, unfortunately not here.
Perfect in the time of COVID! I haven't been out to a truly fine restaurant since last February for my birthday. Thatcher and Rye was an excellent choice to fine dine and celebrate the holiday season. The food was amazing and service excellent. They have protocols in place that keep everyone safe, but it doesn't take away from the experience. I will definitely go there again, probably to celebrate my next birthday!
I had a great time at this recently opened restaurant. I was on my own impromptu food tour and I thought to stop by here. I will come back to try the other courses but I had the lasagna with smoked brisket and the sticky toffee cake. Let me tell you that sticky toffee cake with pears and with the additional of the pear sorbet was the unexpected finale! I didn't think that pears would be such a compliment but boy I was wrong. The guy who presented our dessert said the sorbet tasted like the pear jelly belly jelly bean! Right on description. I'll be coming back for sure. I was able to sit in the actual dining area so I would like to have a seat down there.
Delicious food, delightful service!
A perfect birthday lunch.
This was our second 80 mile round trip to Thacher and Rye and we look forward to many more. The experience was flawless.
Service initially was good. Water and drink order taken within a minute of being seated. One of two drinks ordered arrived within minutes, and the other lagged. We ended up flagging down another staff member to fill the second drink order. The entree took thirty minutes to arrive, but the waiter did let us know steaks take that long. The short ribs were awful. Hence the two stars. Never in my life have I had chewy, tough short ribs. The sides were good, nothing special (potatoes and creamed spinach and dessert was excellent. Shame about the short ribs. Not sure I’d go back after that disappointing entree.
We enjoyed our meal. We ate on the patio in December. Heaters were adequate with a light jacket. Some of the food was top notch, tuna appetizer and raw oysters, and pastas, but we shared the strip steak entree and it was tough. Hard to know in advance how a piece of meat will do, so we were ok with that. Pumpkin cheesecake was ok, but didn’t have much flavor. The grape sorbet, served with it, offered the flavor and the granola topping gave it good texture.
Food was excellent and a waitress who served was also excellent. She was pleasant and knowledgeable. Thanks to her, we had a great time.
Most of the food was perfectly executed. The Uni Rice Dish did not arrive with crispy rice, which was very disappointing. It was more like risotto. Cocktails were amazing. Service was over-bearing. They were contantly present and hovering close by which was uncomfortable.
Good time here! Food was next level up until the roasted chicken. The white meat was the best we’ve ever had; the dark meat though was raw. Not pink, like red bleeding raw. We asked an employee if that is what it normally looks like and he said yes , which truly puzzled me. That being said, everything else was truly amazing. Short ribs were insane and the lasagna was something Iv never tasted before. Well go back again, but just for the price each item should be pretty spot on.
Worth every penny.
Lovely experience. Its my favorite restaurant.
46th anniversary and 1st time out in awhile;).
Thanks for the special evening!
We loved our waitperson...Jenny, I think:).
Excellent service offering very innovative & delicious food. The four of us ate outside in the heated tent. We will return :-)
Tuna crudo was outstanding. Lasagna was very good. Striped bass was fantastic. Fluke was flavorless and disappointing. Cornbread with chili butter was some of the best butter I’ve ever tasted.
Loved it. Great food. Even better service. Wine selection was nice.
Amazing!!!! Wonderful experience, atmosphere
Loved Volt- expected a moderately priced & food experience in comparison. Opening Fries too salty. Fish average... though beautifully plated. Old fashioned cocktail was stellar.
Great dining experience. Sat outside for brunch and felt very comfortable dining safely in light of covid.
