Excellent all the way around!
We had family in town and have to say this was an incredible dining experience. The food was amazing, the service was on point and we enjoyed every minute we spent at Thatcher and Rye. The Tuna Tartare with the french onion dip, the Spent grain rye bread with the smoked salmon, the Virginia cured ham with cornbread and of course the cocktails, everything was perfect!
A special occasion place for sure, but with a burger on the menu and their Wednesday special events, the former Volt has edged into a treat for ordinary date nights as well.
We went to Thatcher and Rye for a birthday dinner. This place was AMAZING from start to finish. The food was phenomenal and the wine was paired perfectly. The service was fantastic. We will definitely be going back.
It‘s always a delicious meal with fantastic, personable service at Thacher and Rye! Thank you for such a wonderful evening!
What a wonderful experience! The food was delicious and the staff couldn't have been nicer.
3 course meal with paired local wine from Catoctin Breeze Winery was excellent. Personable and knowledgeable waiter.
Chef Voltaggio continues his excellence. The food is outstanding - worthy of a Top Chef! And the weekly dinner pairings with wine or cocktails from local wineries and distilleries are both fun and exciting! Fine dining at its best - and highly recommended!
Lovely atmosphere, the food was out of this world and perfect for a much needed date night!
Food was nothing special. Most of it was pretty good, but for the prices, all of it should be outstanding. And it wasn’t; some of the misses: Spiced shrimp was overly salty and overcooked; the brioche bun for the burger was stale (hmm, closed Mon-Tue, we ate there on a Wednesday, did they try to stretch it too far?!). After hearing so much about it, disappointing overall.
Great food and service
Kudos to Thacher and Rye and to Chef Voltagio for supporting and promoting local food growers, wineries, breweries and distilleries. Our dinner was great in every aspect. Dishes were simple but creative. We will be coming back. Thank you for nice evening.
Great setting for a more up-scale event. Food was incredibly innovative and delicious. Particularly enjoyed the burrata with blackened sweet peas and bonito flakes. Service was very professional and very friendly.
Incredible meal. Best pasta I have ever had. Drinks were great too!
Only issue with the noise level was from motorcycle noise from the street - just something that goes hand in hand with outdoor dining, no fault of the restaurant.
I would suggest they consider tweaking the menu to add additional breakfast type items on the brunch menu and also some lighter options/salads for the summer.
The skillet coffee cake was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The foods are great, especially the pork loin was very soft and tasty. The best part was that I did not smell any pork smell, which I thought was amazing! However, I was not much satisfied with the atmosphere as the dining area was too bright and a bit more noisy than expected.
Overall, they are good and I am fairly satisfied.
Wonderful. Delicious food in a beautiful historic building., creative cocktails. Very good service. They have a lovely outdoor dining and bar area. Bar area has premixed drinks available or could order a drink from inside bar and bring it out.
Went for Sunday brunch for the first time since the name change. Although I like ordering courses, I was hoping to see the traditional brunch menu and just order a meal. Had four courses and the food was great, but not traditional brunch food.
What a great experience for a birthday dinner. Fantastic cocktails, food, service and in a lovely patio!
Simply amazing! Every dish we loved, the waitress was fantastic and the service was great. The ravioli was one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. So fluffy and delicate yet full of flavor!
We enjoyed an incredible evening at Thatcher and Rye! Enjoyed a variety of seasonal dishes that were elevated, fresh and absolutely delicious! Flavorful asparagus with soft egg, oysters and tuna appetizers, an amazing earthy risotto entree prepared with a medley of mushrooms, including morels and ramp butter, and a moist, flavorful, perfectly cooked chicken dish, followed up by a wow- chocolate orange dessert! Loved our server and all of the supporting service from the bar, kitchen and front of the house was great! All of this with a twinkling outdoor ambience, with a private, lively vibe! Perfect Friday evening! Thank you!
Loved Volt. Thatcher & Rye offers the same wonderful food but is more affordable. Loved their three-course tasting menu which included the wine pairing in its reasonable price.
The weekly pairing dinners are a good value and delicious.
This is an exquisite dining experience to be enjoyed with the best of friends and family!
Had a lovely meal, the food and the service will definitely see us back. That said the interior feels stark and the choice of classic alt rock feels out of place for high end dining.
Outstanding! All dishes we ordered were exceptionally well prepared and a cut above our most recent fine dining experiences.I never order chicken in top restaurants but the waiter convinced me to make that choice this time. So glad he did!
Very good, a special dinner and I would definitely go back. I heard about the restaurant after watching Top Chef. I live in Bethesda and have not seeing it reviewed by WaPost. It is located in a beautiful building, great bar area but I probably got the worst table at the restaurant but still a great dinner and great service. I will make sure I get a different table next time!
Food came out at different times, long wait for entrees, some dishes were served warm, while others were hot right out of the kitchen. Risotto way too salty and way overpriced for the small portion that was served at room temperature. Chicken and biscuits best deal, but can get that at other restaurant they own, Show Room.
Fries were great. Mushroom Risotto was salty. Great service.
We sat at the chef's counter. It was a wonderful experience. The noise level wasn't from the kitchen, but all the other guests in the small space. The food was delicious. Do not compare it to Volt, it is a different experience and a different flavor profile. We loved both restaurants. Highly recommend.
The noise level, even with distancing, was high. Could use some more soundproofing, but I know that isn’t easy. I would suggest a modest dress code minimum. Seems folks turned out even a little, are a little more reserved and that would mitigate the noise somewhat. Certainly , with the high level of service and food, wouldn’t be a stretch or offended anyone.
Came with expectations that it was going to be a similar experience as Volt but with a different menu. We were disappointed. Food was bland and menu too limited.
It was the absolute best meal of my life. Period. Bryan Voltaggio you have outdone yourself!
Digging the new, lower-key incarnation of Volt. Food is still amazing, but the whole experience is less pretentious. Very post-pandemic!
First time at Thacher & Rye and it was fantastic. The outdoor patio was beautiful. Service was attentive without being intrusive. Extensive and creative wine/beer/cocktails list. THE FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL. Each dish showcased the high quality produce, seafood, and meats. Every dish was a winner. One member of our party has several food allergies and not only was accommodated, but had a phenomenal meal. We can’t wait to go back!
Fantastic service and food!
The food was perfectly prepared and wonderfuly presented; the dishes we had were balanced, thoughtful and nuanced. This was a menu from a mature, expert chef. Service was well-paced and considerate, but not obsequious. The wine list includes some truly excellent choices, and the cocktail menu is inspired. The attention to seasonal dishes using local ingredients is a delight. Cannot recommend more highly.
First trip to a restaurant in 15 months. So nice to get out for great food and drinks. Waiter wasn’t great, but gave him a pass, since things are just opening up again. Brought wrong entree and gave us the wrong check. All in all, still good.
We had a delicious dinner for my husband's birthday Saturday night. We sat at an outside table on a beautiful evening, had a wonderful waitress, enjoyed a delicious meal and a fabulous chocolate mousse for dessert. The restaurant was busy but there were plenty of waitstaff and the service was excellent. We will definitely return.
