Everything was fantastic from the beginning to the end! We will certainly be back to try more soon!
I hosted a small brunch of 5 people.
Dinner menu was delicious. We are outdoors and the space was great. Friendly staff and they made it feel special for my husband’s birthday. Highly recommend!
Great food and excellent service
Perfect place for a special occasion
We had an absolutely delicious dinner. The service was excellent. Can’t wait to return.
What a great experience! I cannot imagine better food, more beautifully plated. The service is second to none! I love watching the all action in the open kitchen!
For the price we were paying (around $180 for two), we were expecting each course to wow us. Some of the courses were innovative and amazing, but at the same time, we each had a course that was mediocre. Additionally, the course we both had wanted to try, the bass, was sold out, which seemed odd since it was a Wednesday night (not exactly a rush day for dining out). Overall, we're glad we experienced a Voltaggio restaurant, but there are so many more affordable options in Frederick and the DC area that simply have better food, we probably won't be returning.
We haven't been here in 10 years (moved to CA) and since then not only has the name changed (used to be Volt) but the menu has changed as well. What did NOT change was the service and quality and taste of the offerings. We were not disappointed.
Great dining experience, excellent Tuna Tartare staff outstanding
This place was fantastic! Definitely will go back! We got to sit in the room where part of the kitchen is. It was so cool to watch them work.
We’ve enjoyed Thacher & Rye monthly since the rebranding and it’s generally a lovely dining experience. Delicious cocktails, interesting wines, diverse menu. While some of the
Menu has been fairly static, there are definitely some major yet subtle changes on each visit. Their draconian “order everything at once” commandment is really the only dig. We like to order something and snack and enjoy cocktails while deciding what to order next but the staff has a good attitude about accommodating our spacing efforts. Regardless, we love the place and will continue visiting monthly.
The portions were perfect and I really like the 3 course method. You have an opportunity to try 3 amazing meals in small portions. Excellent
This was my first visit to Thacher & Rye, having been to the chef's previous incarnation at this address, Volt. The transformation into Thacher & Rye has apparently been a success. The place looks great inside and out. We dined on the patio on a beautiful night. Our server thoroughly explained the menu and was attentive throughout dinner. My mother had the duck rillettes appetizer, which was plentiful and came with two buttermilk biscuits--had to take some home. I had the scallop crudo appetizer, which was nice. For entries, my mother had the bass, which was very good (I had a taste) and had a nice, crispy skin. I had the Berkshire pork tenderloin with broccoli rabe. Good but not great. Overall, we thought the restaurant was good. Well worth my drive. The patio dining area is especially nice. We plan to revisit Thacher & Rye in the near future.
Fantastic service and a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion!
Everything was very good
We will be back
You can’t go wrong here. A unique menu, excellent service, great wine list, etc, etc. Just go and try it. You will love it.
A high quality meal and experience, with food that was both tasty and beautiful. Service was very good. Outdoor dining on a beautiful evening was a pleasure.
Creative and well designed menu, delicious cocktails, wonderful ambience for an exciting date night out
We were seated in the basement. The ambiance was just…weird. It felt like a small conference room with a huge tv on a stand at the front- like there would be a presentation. We had reserved outside seating, but it was closed because it had rained earlier (wasn’t raining throughout our meal). The table next to us had someone who was sneezing constantly, which made me uncomfortable at this time. (Hence why we had chosen outdoor seating). The first two courses were very good, but both my entree and my husband’s were just ok-
Something I could have made at home. Lastly, not one employee wore a mask, even though Frederick county is an area of high transmission. For over $200, it isn’t a place I’d recommend.
Always a wonderful experience at Thacher and Rye. I had the scallop crudo, goat cheese ravioli, swordfish, and cheesecake. Everything was delicious! We will definitely be back again.
My husband, daughter and I first came in April while passing through from Cleveland to University of Maryland. First time didn't disappoint. Just dropped our daughter off at college for Freshman year and of course came back for a second visit. Everything from the bread service to the oysters, scallop crudo, lasagna, hanger steak and goat cheese cake.... superb!!! I'm a chef from Cleveland and a huge fan. We will be back again and we will be referring our friends. A real treat!!!
Great food, great service, great place!
My husband brought me to Thatcher & Rye for my birthday. I’ve been following Chef Bryan Voltaggio for a number of years on tv. To come to one of his restaurants was a dream come true!
From top to bottom, Thatcher & Rye was fantastic! Greeters, servers, place settings, decor, drinks, food and atmosphere ranks right at the top for us. We are thankful that we only live two hours away, because we will be back.
They were selling Chef Voltaggio’s book and my husband bought one for me. Our wonderful server, Clark, asked Chef to sign it for me and then he came out of the kitchen to give it to me. I’ll always remember this birthday.
All the food was spectacular. We both got different things except for dessert. We each ordered the Chocolate Pudding. It’s like nothing we have ever eaten!! Wow…..
Thank you Thatcher & Rye
The flavors, presentation, and service was all outstanding. The menu was eclectic and didn’t necessarily fit together thematically, however all of the food was great and it allowed us to order things that were interesting without being locked into a specific genre or culture.
a great overall experience from a star chef. good parking and handicap entry ramp appreciated.
Excellent food and service, though tablecloths would have upgraded the experience. Specials may also enhance the experience.
We sat outside in the renovated patio area which is lovely spot with the brick walls enclosing it, the overhead sun screens and some plants. Our visit was on a Wednesday when they feature a "love local' dinner and beverage special. An unexpected rain shower came as we were paying the bill, but the staff was moving the other tables to the indoors quickly.
Food was great! We had the Tomatoes and Melon, Mushroom Bolognese, Swordfish and Burger - all delicious. The service could be improved on. A few things were forgotten or delayed. One of the drinks we ordered was just dropped off to the table with no no eye contact, no explanation, nothing, which was odd. The space itself is beautiful, but it was extremely dark where we were sitting.
Excellent service and food, as always! Looking forward to the next time.
Birthday dinner was great
This was our 55th wedding anniversary. T & R made it a special occasion.
Amazing! The food was stellar and service was perfect. The server was able to offer wine recommendations for the various courses which was nice. Definitely try the sticky toffee cake. You’re going to feel full at the end of dinner but you cannot skip dessert. The cake is worth it no matter what!
Great food and service. Very creative
Caitlin was great! We enjoyed my mom’s birthday brunch on the patio.
Outstanding, as always!
Amazing restaurant. Good is awesome and so is the service! Cocktails hit the spot also!
We were in Fredrick for restaurant week and luckily were able to secure a last minute reservation for patio dining. The ambiance was beautiful. The food was very good and presentation was top notch. Service was attentive and professional.
The goat cheese ravioli was spectacular as was the rigatoni with the mushroom bolognese.
Perfect once again.
Food was fantastic, service was great, everyone is friendly from the time we came in the door to the time we went out the door. Our server JW, was great and explained everything, answered all our questions. It was worth every dollar we paid. Can't wait to go back.
