Enjoyed a birthday celebration. Staff was wonderful and made it special!
It was good. Enjoyable. The cocktails were exceptional but everything else was good...not great.
Great service, delicious food, wonderful atmosphere!
We couldn’t believe that this was the old Volt restaurant!! Same owner and chef and we were truly not let down. We had eaten at Volt many times in the last and this new reformation of the restaurant is perfect for today’s lifestyle! Thanks so much for an amazing night filled with great conversations and equally fabulous food!!!
Wow a truly incredible meal
We were blown away
The scallops, uni rice, and striped bass were all on point for sure
We were lucky enough to get a table looking in to the kitchen
While the food tasted incredible, I was not prepared and did not like having to order three courses of food all at once because "that is what the chef wants". For me it made tgings feel rushed. Host crew did great with special accommodations that we needed.
Delicious food!! Lucky to have restaurant like this in Frederick!
We absolutely loved Thacher & Rye! The service was excellent - always there without being overbearing.
Great food and service.
This place is awesome! Me and my family always dine here all the time. All courses are absolutely delicious!
Overall a great meal. The 14 oz ribeye was lacking in quality I would expect from this restaurant. We will be back though.
Been wanting to try this place since it was Volt! Made reservations for Valentine’s weekend and I was impressed with the check-in process, spacing of tables for COViD, and the pace of our meal! Cocktails were on point as was each course! I ordered the 14oz strip steak medium and it was perfect. My wife ordered the chicken & dumplings which were great as well. We didn’t have room for dessert but can only imagine it’s wonderful.
Tip#1 Get the mashed potatoes - YUMMMMM!!!
Tip#2 Get the “Doctor’s Order” cocktail - delish!!
Food was excellent. Well plated, flavorful, and portions are a good size. Best upscale restaurant in Frederick in my opinion. Perfect for special occasions and date nights.
Excellent! This definitely should be a one or two star rated Michelin restaurant. It is an experience both “worth a stop and worth a detour.” Much better than a “Bib Gourmand” experience.
We had the burger, with fries, the corn bread, the spiced shrimp cocktail, and Virginia cured ham. Also the cheesecake (which was a miss, unfortunately).
We had a very enjoyable dinner. I loved the uni with the lobster claw. The courses were beautiful. Service was excellent. The drive from Washington DC was definitively worth it.
The food was good. I’d say showroom is better. Our waiter seemed rushed (at least with us vs watching him with other tables). The food was tasty but on the smaller portion side.
It was great. The food was really awesome and what I’d expect for the prices. The appetizer bread sticks were boring, would rather have fresh bread. I added that it was my wife’s birthday and even verified it when the restaurant called me to verify my reservation. She said there was complimentary “bubbly” or dessert if you don’t drink. No one said anything, nor did they offer that. I didn’t want to ruin the dinner and my wife had no idea anyway so I just let it go. I’m glad those were my only tiny issues and it’s still a 5 star. I’d want to know that if I was the owner though. We’ll be back definitely.
We had a great meal. Everything we ordered was very good. If you are dinning with someone who is not very adventurous with their dinner choices, you might want to review the menu online before going. Although our server informed us the menu changes very frequently, we didn't feel there was an abundance of choices. The price point is also on the higher side.
This was our second wonderful brunch at Thacher and Rye. The food was delicious, our server was fantastic, and we felt very comfortable eating in the covered patio.
Wonderful drinks and food. The service was delightful.
I can't tell you how happy I am that Brian Voltaggio decided to open a new restaurant in Frederick. He's such a treasure for such a small community to have!
The food was unbelievable!! Service was impeccable!! Atmosphere very romantic/cozy! My new favorite restaurant! It reminds me of the restaurant at the Inn at Little Washington with respects to the food quality.
The chef is a genius. Can’t wait to go again.
Never disappoints! We were there for my husbands birthday. The food, staff, environment were all top notch! Definitely recommend and plan on going back
We had a great time! The food and drinks were interesting and delicious. The music and atmosphere were lively. Service was well paced but besides that nothing special. A little pricey but we left satisfied. We would definitely dine here again.
Domingo was an amazing server, cocktails were outstanding, and the food was to die for...especially desserts. We tried all three! The outdoor patio was adorable - warm and inviting. I will be back.
This is the best food I’ve ever eaten. Just perfect.
Another perfect dining experience for Chef Voltaggio and crew
2nd time visit...starting to become a fan. The service was ok but food made up for it. My highlight was the chicken and biscuits on the brunch menu. The chive cheddar biscuits gives red lobster's a run for their money. I knew the biscuits were going to be good as soon as I sliced into it. The chives reached out and grabbed my nose as it was placed on the table. The chicken's crunch! Ooooowww Lord! Just give it a try. Now dessert, I never had figgy pudding and only heard it in a Christmas song. Although I'm not a fan of dates this dessert reminded me of the sticky toffee pudding I had weeks prior. Warm desserts is my food love language so this was right in my alley! The layers of textures was perfect! Let's talk about the cinnamon ice cream they paired with this dish. If yall had cinnamon life the cereal this is what it tasted it. I thoroughly enjoyed this! The cinnamon was like no other it had a sensual pleasant heat that lingered your tongue like a nostalgic temptation! I'm not sure what type of cinnamon they used in this ice cream but I need to find it. Good check it out before the change up their menu!
I was an avid fan of Volt. The 1st time I went was my best dining experience of all time, so I have a soft spot for the chef. I was happy to be back in the same building with its familiar details. As before, the food, the team, and the environment was lovely. If you are a chocolate lover, the tiramisu dessert is UNBELIEVABLE. It is a must have as is the beef short rib entree. Simply the best you’ll ever have.
COVID impacted the experience somewhat, but that’s understandable. With a bottle of wine, and each course sampled, the price tag was back to being in Volt territory. My biggest feedback is trying to get someone on the phone...it’s near impossible.
We are lucky to have a chef as talented and as committed to excellence as Brian voltaggio is here in Frederick!
What a wonderful experience! The food was amazing and the service was friendly and professional. We are looking forward to returning.
We had a lovely meal on the patio. Not a very cold day, but there were propane heaters in abundance. All Covid precautions were followed.
Food and drinks were terrific, artfully plated and delicious.
We will return.
What a wonderful way to celebrate the end of a terrible year. The food was amazing, the service perfect, and the tent was beyond safe. It was a marvelous New Year's Eve dinner.
My wife and I had a 5 pm reservation new years eve. If you like Bourbon based cocktails you will be pleased. Our cocktails (I had a Manhattan and my wife a Bramble) were excellent. The menu is simple and it was easy for us to make our selections. We shared the pufferfish appetizer that was well seasoned, but beware of the bones and our waiter was correct in telling us that we should order a second appetizer since the pufferfish were quite small. The Ahi Tuna appetizer was more filling and satisfying. We both ordered a salad that was hidden among the appetizer section and we are glad we did- the greens were fresh and well blended with the ingredients mixed in resulting in a satisfying second course. My wife thought her Striped Bass was also excellent as was my 16 oz perfectly grilled and seasoned New York strip. The brown rice congee was not to our liking, and the menu could be a little more exciting - otherwise a 5 star meal.
Great tent space that is well set up for comfort and safety...we dined on a cold, rainy day and we’re totally comfortable, even without coats. Staff goes the extra mile on safety protocols, a great experience in trying times.
I was very glad to have learned that Bryan Voltaggio decided to use the space which was formerly dedicated to fine dining under the name of Volt Restaurant and repurpose it as a more casual but equally wonderful dining experience under the name of Thacher & Rye. Both the service and food exceeded expectations. The only drawback to the evening was not having received the french fries we ordered with our meat, but we didn't miss them and certainly didn't need the extra calories! I miss Volt but will not hesitate to return to Thacher & Rye to try out the rest of the menu - including the french fries!
Amazing meal. Everything was great. Cooked perfect and amazing and unexpected flavor. !!
The cocktails are amazing. The first course Beef Carpaccio and second course Ravioli were delightful. We had the NY strip, the burger, Sea Bass and the Fluke were absolutely perfect. The whole experience was amazing and I would highly recommend to everyone.
The drinks to start were great. Local distillery’s were throughout the list and we were impressed with the drinks. The menu was a bit confusing with course style. Puffer fish was decent to start. Unique and a little spicy. The goat cheese ravioli were one of the best bites we had however the crispy uni rice with lobster was very disappointing. A lot of lobster meat however the rice and broth were lacking in seasoning. For entrees the short ribs and grits were good and the burger was simple but really delicious. Highlight of the meal was definitely the chocolate mousse for dessert. Worth another try but was hoping it would be a little more consistent.
Gave ambiance 3 stars because we had outdoor seating. Even though it is tented and there are 4 - 6 heaters, it was still cold and quite blah. It needs to be a little more welcoming. Everything else was excellent- food, service, cocktails.
You will not be disappointed! We live n Montgomery County and Thatcher & Rye is worth the drive! The staff is wonderful and every attentive. The presentation, taste, plate size is spot on. Do yourself a favor and please don’t skip the pasta course. The drinks are expertly crafted and the wine list has many options.
