Tfor..Trattoria by Tommy Ratings and Reviews
We went on a night where there were NO other customers which is always odd. Tho a holiday week. What we ordered was generally fresh and well made. Wines by the glass mediocre but I am selective. The room is a bit dingy to be frank. I had higher hopes for the experience but would not discourage people trying it.
Tiny restaurant, excellent food, high quality ingredients directly from Italy. I'm Italian and I recognize authentic Italian restaurants. This one is really an authentic contemporary excellent Italian restaurant in one of my favorite neighborhoods. Highly recommended.
In its prior avatars as, first Abbotella and then Da Tommy's, this was a superior restaurant, with an excellent, innovative menu and a laid-back, friendly vibe. Now, all that is changed. The whole ambiance is snooty, the menu not as interesting, the prices too high and the portions rather smaller. Our appetizer was good. One of our entrees was excellent but the other was fishy and stingy. Too bad. We will not be back.
Real italian restaurant in NYC! The food was amazing, high quality of the service and great cocktail. I strongly suggest to visit TFOR and enjoy the Italian plates and the hospitality of the owner and his staff. I will come back for sure! Good job!
Pretty place. Tiny tables. 24" square put together in 4 long rows. They move tables a few inches apart for 2s, 4s, 6s or 8s. Crazy. Only 12 diners on Saturday nite. Pasta Amatriciana was excellent. Their signature pasta, with pistachios and a heads on prawn, (1 shrimp no bigger than
16-20 size ) was not good. No one asked how anything was. After waiting 20 minutes for a second glass of wine we cancelled and asked for a check. Owner was more interested in talking
to hostess than checking what was going on. Too bad, we were hoping for a new good local place.
Amazingly great quality ingredients: you can be sure the raw fish and seafood will not disappoint. Pasta cooked just right and desserts to die for (leave some space for the cannoli).
Cozy place, you feel like you are part of the family, especially if you sit at the bar.
Good environment to chat with a friend or a date, but not if they have live music, then you best pay attention to the music and chat later.
The food was great but overpriced and the portions were really small. It's an authentic Italian with fresh and taste raw fish, the shrimps tartare were superb. I had also a swordfish roll which was really good, old school prepared and served. We shared a baba' for dessert which was delicious. Try to avoid the live music nights (Tuesday)because even if the music Kagoshima but the place is too small and you can't even talk with your friend next to you.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. The owner brought us a glass of wine and some carpaccio right when we sat down to what turned out to be an amazing meal. We ordered every starter and raw fish item on the menu and they were all phenomenal. The Sicilian Tuna Tartare and Swordfish carpaccio were big standouts. The cocktail menu was creative and delicious as well, regardless of your favorite base liquor.
