Food was delicious but overpriced compared to similar places like Bestia or Republique. We were also seated 20mins after the reservation time and there were empty tables. I find this pretentious and rude, if they are doing this to show off demand, they should stop it. The hostess wouldn’t even apologize for the wait time, she wouldn’t even talk to us/smile. Considering we went there for my partner’s birthday, it was definitely a vibe-killer.
The artichoke and cauliflower appetizers are innovative and delicious. The bucatini with bone marrow and salmon are excellent. Have tried several drinks and desserts - all good. Cannot go wrong with any of the dishes. Becoming one of our go to restaurants.
I love Bestia and was disappointed by my experience at Tesse. The hostess was very polite and attentive. It took several minutes before our server came over, but it was Saturday night so it's OK. But we were crammed next to another table and it was very loud. The food was pretty good but the main problem is -- my girlfriend went to the bathroom and when she left the stall, a Tesse Staff Member almost ran into her holding a bunch of chairs. Not a big deal, but he didn't apologize and even gave her a long, mean look.
I was disappointed by the experience. The wine menu is great and the food was pretty good (but not stellar). Someone also called the next day to ask how the experience was, which I appreciate.
I don't think we will be going back. I'm sure others will like it more. In fact, a gentleman sitting next to us kept raving about the restaurant, how much he loved the food and the wine. To each is own.
Loved, loved, loved this restaurant. It's been on my radar since it opened and so happy we finally did it. Service was fun, super friendly and on game. The food was portioned out perfectly. The Some was the Bomb and lastly the desert wine tasting was an adventure in and of it's self. My only regret was not ordering the souffle. I'll Be back!! 5 star.
Celebrated my bday at Tesse and I highly recommend! The food was delicious, service amazing, and the restaurant itself is beautiful.
Food is good but priced high. Also we didn’t care for our dish and we told our waiter and we thought we would get something a complimentary dessert or any acknowledgement. But other then a polite I’m sorry nothing additional. Which is typical at restaurant with these prices.
Best dishes are the most simple ones
Food was really good, so was our waitress. But the restaurant was so loud we had to shout at each other, I was hoarse when we left. And people kept cramming into the bar until they were standing right next to our table, very unpleasant. The hostesses were useless about trying to move the people at the bar further from the faces of people eating dinner next to it. Expensive and the wine glasses are 3 oz pours for regular size prices. I wouldn't go back.
Very creative food with attractive presentation. The servers helped us select among the small and large plates for a very satisfying meal.
Great night out in a beautiful space on sunset. The food was more contemporary than French but I had no problem with that. Standouts were the chicken liver parfait and garlic and short ribs. It should be noted that my table mates and I didn’t move past the small courses as they were large enough to share and we ordered a lot of them. Only misfire was the lobster sausage and duck fat fries. Maybe this was because it came out after the richer short ribs and it’s subtleties were perhaps undetectable to my palate at that point. I can’t really say. Other than that, everything was excellent - especially our patient, attentive, and charming server. Do yourself a favor and check out Tesse for a fun, tasty, and sophisticated night out.
Highly recommend Tesse. Fun, approachable and easily shred menu makes for one of the best restaurant experiences in LA. Great wine list, knowledgeable staff, parking is a breeze out front. Great little wine shop attached as well. Looking forward to multiple visits to explore the large menu, can't say enough great things about the food and service, great decor too.
Most interesting food.....but nothing is like what you might expect.....e.g., endives look like red vegetable (delicious and fresh BTW !, and skirt steak resembles short ribs in appearance)
IY IS A SMALL PLATE PLACE.......which gives them time to serve what they want when they can get to it....I HATE small plae lackk ofo discipline, but waitress can help with this
Overall EXCELLENT! Charred cauliflower -> especially enjoyed the brightness of pomegranate. Onion rings -> terrific, crunchy and not oily. Blue crab simplissime -> rich and delish! Pappardelle -> perfectly prepared pasta, great flavors. Jidori chicken -> very nicely prepared, crunchy skin and moist... flavorful! Vanilla soufflé's -> great meal can hardly be topped by dessert, but dessert was BEST ending! Really one of the best souffles we ever eaten. Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon -> just a glass, but good compliment to meal. Service -> professional in all regards and especially friendly! Atmosphere -> really terrific beautifully designed room! Lively noise level. Only criticism would be cocktail... Manhattan -> not the best. Just didn't recognize the usual favorite flavor notes here. Was it the rye, bitters or the vermouth... ?? Didn't have a second. ANYWAY -> we'll be back and next time with friends to sample more dishes.
Even though the food was good it wasn’t very memorable. Most likely won’t return there however would recommend everyone goes once to try.
Our shared plates made dining in a group really fun. Food was delicious and service top notch. Hard to eat that way everyday, but it made special occasion dining fun.
Food was just average. Service was very good: knowledgeable and attentive; however the overall experience seemed very rushed. Restaurant itself is beautiful but loud.
Crowded. Noisy. Felt like a sardine. Rushed service. Would not come back.
The food and drink were fantastic. Loved the ambiance as well. All the service staff were excellent and even the owners came by to say hello and find out how our table was doing. All four of us said we had an exceptional meal and it felt like a special occasion. I definitely will go to this restaurant again and recommend it to my friends and family.
The bone marrow pasta was amazing! Service was outstanding. A little awkward for the seating (it’s like a 4 person table but with strangers) but the couple next to us was fun so it was okay. Can’t wait to go back!
Modern European interior, open kitchen, great service, and yummy food. What more can you ask for? The small plates were my favorite. We ordered just about everything on the list and everything was creative, flavorful, and delectable. One tiny drawback was the food was slightly salty to me but no one else seemed to notice. We ordered the grapefruit flambé for dessert although we were way too full. Couldn’t finish it but it is now one of my top three favorite desserts ever. Definitely will be going back.
Without a doubt one of the best restaurants we have been to in LA. The food, service, and ambiance were outstanding. we cannot wait to go back.
Several items not fully described beet salad more slaw than beets. Dover sole over priced. Crab with mashed potatoes more like mashed potatoes with a few chunks of crab. More like a dip or side dish of mashed potatoes than an entree. Too much Creer frisch
Great venue, amazing food and fantastic service. I love it at Tesse and have become a regular when I want a great meal.
Waited an hour to get seated. They forgot to fire up our entrees. Took 2.5 hours to get our meal
I celebrated my birthday and it was a really great place to do that at Tesse. So many lovely dishes to choose from. All the dishes we chose was different but all good. I loved the dessert chocolate for two, wonderful flavors and beautiful presentation. The wine recommendation was great. And Jacob our water was just the right amount of nice , friendly and funny and came with good advice for both food questions and wine suggestion.
The only negative thing was the volume in the restaurant. very loud , sometime hard to keep a conversation.
We arrived approximately 10pm due to issues with Uber delays. We called and apologized running late and advised no problem. Immediately upon entry we all received dirty looks from server as well as kitchen staff who started making gestures to each other because upset as they where apparently preparing to close at 11pm on a busy Thursday night. We got rushed through our drink order, food came out before our drinks and food was extremely salty and cold.
Very poor experience unfortunately. This is a restaurant my family really supported and recommended to our friends and family based on our love for its sister restaurant Bestia which we routinely visit. We will not return.
It was my girlfriend's birthday and we'd been wanting to try Tesse. She was in the mood for French and especially a chocolate soufflé for dessert. We ordered a cheese plate for a starter which was good. Also, the onion rings which were huge but very dough-y. For our mains, I ordered the sole. Whoever came up with the brainless storm to serve it as if it'd been put in a panini press should be demoted to working at Subway. It completely sucked whatever light, tender flesh it might have started with into an an overly-cooked, dry, flavorless piece of cardboard. I sent it back and replaced it with the Hamachi crudo. It was fine. Not spectacular. My girlfriend ordered the bucatini with bone marrow, which frankly was so salty it was inedible. Having already sent one dish back we bit the bullet and decided to leave it. Nobody asked if we wanted to box it up and take it with us. I suppose they instinctively knew it wouldn't be worth wasting the take-home box. Furthermore, wines by the glass are served as half pours so "we can enjoy a couple of different tastes if we so desired," our waiter informed us. These were not generous half pours. And at prices normally charged for a decent full glass of wine, I call B.S. on that enjoying line. It's so the restaurant can gouge diners, in my opinion, another bad idea. By the time we got to the special birthday "cake" moment and ordering the soufflé my girlfriend didn't want to risk another disappointment and instead wanted to drive to Rite-Aid down the street for something dependable and delicious--an ice cream cone. I'm not some newbie in the food world. I hit every notable restaurant opening. I have friends, from chefs to front of the room, who would comprise a Who's Who of the LA dining scene and are repeatedly on every top year-end and hot list. Over the years, I've dined at and respected Bill Chait's restaurants. Perhaps we ordered wrong. But that's a poor excuse for this poor excuse of a celebratory meal.
Great experience in West Hollywood before taking out of towners to comedy store. Unique small plates. Great cocktails, beer and wine. They kept us waiting for the table for 15 minutes but the bar was easy to get a drink at and they gave us champagne after the wait.
Food and service were outstanding !
Mediocre service. Food was modern French. Decent but underwhelming
Nice selections at each level of the menu, and a wonderful wine list.
For me, the selections of cheeses and meats, especially the sausages, made the start of the meal great, the pork chop stole the show, in my opinion the best pork chop on an L.A. area menu. The Soufflé was wonderful. We will be back!
This is by far the best dinner we've had for a very long time. We eat out a lot but this dinner stood out in so many ways. It was exquisite, every dish was unique with excellent flavors without being overly complicated. The portion size of the dishes was perfect, so we could sample multiple items. It's hard to recommend any specific one because we loved every single dish we tried, but the exceptional interpretation of the Crab Simplissime is just out of this world. The dessert was also to die for.
The other thing that was also worth commenting on is the wonderful service we had. The hostess was really nice with a great sense of humor and our server, Dana, was really excellent.
I really recommend Tesse if you want to have a wonderful time, fantastic food, great service in a beautiful decor.
We loved our experience from beginning to end. The atmosphere, the service and the food. It was a great crowd. The restaurant is loud and bustling, but you can hold conversations as you are easily able to hear one another. Brit, the manager, was exceptional, and her staff was, well, exceptional too.
I have heard exceptional things about Tesse! It has hit top EVERYTHING on places to eat in LA. That said, I will say I was underwhelmed. If you’re a foodie like me, it was overpriced and the flavors weren’t anything out of the ordinary. I will note, we came for Valentine’s Day, so maybe they were understaffed? In any case, I wouldn’t recommend. Not 1 dish blew me away—I’m willing to pay top price but when you put trend above flavor— game over. Maybe worth a revisit post biggest date night of the year!
Delicious food. Upscale, but not insanely priced. Umm!
Fantastic all round.
Great ambience, service and food was fabulous. Well needed NY dining experience in LA!
The food was pretty good mine was a bit cold but it was very busy will definitely come back and try again
Amazing food and service! Big portions
The food was outstanding. I've been to a lot of nice and trendy restaurants in Los Angeles and most of the time they disappoint, but Tesse did not. Every plate was delicious (we ordered the burrata, endive salad, artichoke hearts, dover sole, skirt steak, and soufflés). Our server could have been better, but the service overall was still very good. I'll definitely return and have added it to my list of favorites restaurants in LA.
Great atmosphere, excellent service and excellent food! Would definitely go back!
Loved it. The hamachi crudo is to die for
