Terzo (which means third in Italian) offers a daily changing menu of about 15 small plates and 5 large plates. Its “pan-Mediterranean” fare changes based on local ingredients. The wine list offers over 80 options of European and Californian wines chosen to pair with the food.
A high communal table sits between the bar and dining room and offers seating for up to 10 diners. Additional walk-in seating is available on 3 high tops in the front window. Espresso leather banquets line the dining room. A more intimate back dining room can be booked for private parties of up to 18.
Inspired by the wine bars and cafes of Sicily, Rome, Seville & Madrid, wines are stored along the walls of the dining room. An original fireplace was refurbished and is lit when the weather is chilly out. Stylish lighting creates a chic atmosphere.

Terzo Ratings and Reviews
Great service! Loved our arugula salad (very fresh) and the steak. The cheese mushroom w/polenta hors d'oeuvre was def. cheese-y, but that's what we'd ordered. A bit rich for my taste, ultimately. The choc. cake was tasteless, however. The wine was great! Def. a good place, "neighborhood gem."
The meal started out with two delicious small plates - fig brushchetta, pork and meatballs - and and an eggplant small plate which was pretty good. Then came the large plate of salmon, corn, etc.; after one bite each, we decided not to finish the fish. It had an "off" fishy taste of fish that had been around too long. The waiter did insist it was very fresh. We won't be racing back to Terza.
We went to Terzo when it first opened and had jumped on the "small plates" bandwagon. It seemed noisy and, because the small plates were really small, the bill was really big!! We avoided it from then on but last night we needed to go somewhere in the neighborhood and they had a table. What a surprise! It's still noisy but we asked for a QUIET table and the maitre d' kindly let us sit in their usually-unused-on-Tuesday back room which was reasonably quiet. There was a decent choice of "big" plates as well as small and everyone's food was delicious, interesting but not insanely experimental, well prepared and well-presented. Wow! We'll be back.
Sharing the small plates at the community table makes the neighborhood spot a great place for friends. The wine list is eclectic, but I've been poured some glasses from old bottles. The radio in the kitchen didn't quiet match the vibe. The service was charming and prompt.
We were disappointed with the service a couple of times. They weren't very attentive and kind of snobby. However, this last time we went, we got our favorite server, Ron, who makes the whole dining experience wonderful. He's personable, honest, charming yet not overbearing. The food also seems to have improved, with every last dish having a unique twist that makes coming here so worthwhile. Beautiful setting and affordable wine list. Great place to go with friends to share.
Terzo serves up great food, at a price. I have been here a few times now and it is a great spot where the deal is to order a bunch of small and some larger plates for everyone to share. All of the food has always been good. The most recent trip there was with my wife and in-laws and the food was as usual very good.
Always try to get of Terzo when I am in San Francisco. Great ambiance, wonderful Italian sharing plates menu. All organic, locally sourced ingredients. Nice location, wonderful warm interiors with a cozy feel. Service was outstanding, very helpful and knowledgable about the food. The meatballs are to die for along with the bolognese, most of the salads and salmon or other main dishes! I have brought several colleagues here from all over US and Europe and all love it!
It started at the bar with a friendly bartender, great "by the glass" wine selections and incredible olives. Continued at our table with Leah, a very knowledgeable and engaging server. The food was amazing, course after yummy course. We will be back again and again.
Our party of five loved our evening at Terzo. Eclectic dishes, great flavors, flexible sized portions. Best. Hummus. Ever. We loved the grilled calamari; it reminded us of the calamari at Pizzeria Mozza and was almost as good. Our BBE coupon saved us 30%; we all agreed that we would return and pay full price.
Food is always good, but this Friday night (Jul 29th, "the "music" was exceptionally LOUD. The place was crowded and every one was talking, but had to talk very loud to over come the "music"...which was not music at all. This destroyed the "ambiance", therefore my poor rating on ambiance.
I asked the waitress to have it down turned down,,,she agreed...but nothing happened. I got up and went to the bar to ask the bartender to turn it down. He said OK but then went to the sound system and did not lower the volume.
Vibrant Cow Hollow restaurant with very good food and a nicely priced wine list. Service was excellent - I had brought in an old bottle of wine, which the sommelier carefully decanted, only to find that the wine was 'corked.' They were very nice about it, even though it wasn't their fault, and didn't charge me (I ordered a very good Sangiovese wine off the list). It's really a fun and satisfying dining experience.
My husband and I have been to Terzo a few times & we love it! They change the menu frequently so it's always fun to try something new & we always enjoy it. A couple of things that are on the menu all the time that we love are the pork meatballs with creamy polenta & the chicken speidini. The staff is also always very friendly & helpful. I can't wait for our next meal there!
Food was fabulous! Service was not good, disappointing. Our waiter placated us at first and whisked away all our menus. We wanted to order the small plates in courses and he only allowed us one menu for the 3 of us!? It was not crowded so there was no call for this. He did not mention the 1/2 off bottles of wine special and seemed annoyed when we brought it up. The food was really memorable though - that's why I'd return (and hope I got a different waiter!)
Mostly a small plates / share kinda place, but there are a few large plates on the menu. The share thing is echoed by one of those trendy communal table setups. For small plates, we shared: hummus/pita, calamari, beet salad, pork meatballs and grilled asparagus. We also shared one large plate: chicken cacciatore. EVERY dish was outstanding! Terzo is my new favorite. Interestingly, the restaurant that used to occupy this space (Pane e Vino) used to be my fave too (until they moved to Union St. and went downhill). Must be some magic karma at this Steiner St. location that makes the food shine!
Whenever I go back to Terzo, I wonder why I don't eat there more often. The fava beans/ricotta bruschetta was to die for. Grilled calamari was wonderful. The very professional waiter didn't mind when we ordered 2 small plates at a time. We ended up being sated after 4 plates and only about $65 including wine. A bargain for the quality of food.
I entertained a group of friends with experienced palates this past Wednesday night at Terzo. Many of us were delayed due to baseball traffic. The restaurant staff and management were very gracious about the inconvenience. We had lovely evening together and enjoyed the food and atmosphere immensely. We shared small plates and entrees to we could sample more of the menu. Everyone's favorite was the Calamari, a different and refreshing & yes healthy alternative to the usual calamari presentation.
