Terzo (which means third in Italian) offers a daily changing menu of about 15 small plates and 5 large plates. Its “pan-Mediterranean” fare changes based on local ingredients. The wine list offers over 80 options of European and Californian wines chosen to pair with the food.
A high communal table sits between the bar and dining room and offers seating for up to 10 diners. Additional walk-in seating is available on 3 high tops in the front window. Espresso leather banquets line the dining room. A more intimate back dining room can be booked for private parties of up to 18.
Inspired by the wine bars and cafes of Sicily, Rome, Seville & Madrid, wines are stored along the walls of the dining room. An original fireplace was refurbished and is lit when the weather is chilly out. Stylish lighting creates a chic atmosphere.

Terzo Ratings and Reviews
We came here to celebrate our anniversary and were not disappointed! Every dish was delicious, from tender and flavorful meat balls on the bed of polenta to amazing grilled squid with caviar lentils. We also shared Moroccan chicken and it was superb. Our waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Her recommendations were spot on! Great experience overall! Will come again...
We had a late reservation and had to wait quite a while to be seated and we're then felt rushed through our meal. I prefer to relax between courses. The service was otherwise excellent. The food was very tasty but over priced in my opinion for what we got. We're not from the San Francisco area so it may not have been that out of the ordinary. We are not from the San Francisco area so only had 2 other restaurants to compare it to while we visited but for quality of food and service I would say this was the best.
The food was average. The food and beverage prices are toooooo high for what you get. If you can believe this; It was my Birthday "special occasion" and they charged me $12.00 for a miniature slice of cake "and are you ready for this" a dollar for the candle on the cake "sick". Would not go back. Better places to go in SF. Very limited menu!!!
My co-workers and I were very pleased with Terzo.
As a newbie to SF and not yet having the chance to explore many restaurants, I was nervous when my manager asked me to coordinate a team dinner. The only guidelines she gave me were budget and to "avoid the Embarcadero area".
We ordered several small plates and a few large plates to pass around between the 6 of us. We were not disappointed by anything! If you are a first-timer, be sure to order the hummus or the meatballs. Nice beer & wine selection as well.
Additionally, the staff was very accommodating to our party. We had to change our party size at the last minute, but they did not give us a hard time about the adjustment.
This was our second time to Terzo and if possible it was even better. Our server Nicole advised us on our sucession of small plates and then matched it perfectly with a bottle of French white burgundy. The peach roasted brushetta and the cilantro chicken skewers were out of this world. I hardly ever treat myself to panna cotta but I am sure glad i did here. Exquisite! The ambiance at 6:30 was wonderfully calm yet you could tell every table was thoroughly enjoying their experience. Would come again n a heartbeat.
TErzo has wonderful food ..fresh inventive fun delicious and surprising ...There are many Italian restaurants but to have a unique one with California fresh spectrums and amazing pasta amazing meat and fish and salads is rare,, I think this is one of the best restaurants in San Francisco!
Terzo has both individual tables and communal tables. You may request a private table and they do their best to accommodate. We had a nice table in a room with three other tables so we were out of the main hustle bustle which was perfect as we were 3 friends getting together to catch up. Our waiter was professional, attentive but not overbearing. He was great at providing recommendations, and keeping an eye on our wine glasses. The food was great. The panzanella had the best tomatoes ever!
I've eaten here many times, and every time I"m in the back room/ back table the service is pretty awful. I love the vibe here, the food, and have recommended this restaurant to sooo many people. And I would say, don't sit in the back room if possible. Or to Terzo to improve their service in the back
Ingredients top notch. Food too saucy no reason to add so much. Took away from taste and enjoyment of dishes Not sure why but restaurant has lots of seating but they stacked up dinners in 2x3 adjoining tables. The maitre de figures it out and quickly corrected. Will return but be more specific on requests for sauces 👌
Our experience was not a good one. We were seated next to a table of about 12 girls celebrating a birthday - and they were very, very loud. When we asked to be moved to another table the hostess was not accommodating, so after some verbal altercations & unsuccessful attempts to allay the situation between the two tables, we left the restaurant. Upon our departure, our server was very nice and understanding. Unfortunately, the hostess was not at all, and the bartender chimed in with his comments (he should have minded his own business)! We were very disappointed that we were unable to try the cuisine. Someday, we may return. BTW - we have a very pleasant dining experience across the street at Rose's - which happens to be one of our go-to restaurants on Union Street.
I saw an episode of "Check Please" which featured Terzo and it sold me. My wife and I decided to go that night and it did not disappoint. Everything was either good or great, the service was fantastic and we will definitely be back to try items on the menu we didn't get to this time. Highly recommend Terzo!
Enjoyed some delicious wine selections at the bar while we waited on our table (we arrived early). The pita and hummus lived up to the hype. We shared a grilled calamari on black lentils and greens appetizer, and a small but oh-so-good truffled fettuccini plate before our wonderful salmon entree. Our server guided our wine selections and we really enjoyed some local ice creams to finish. Y-U-M-M-Y! Highly recommend.
What a lovely surprise as recommended by a foodie friend. The menu was eclectic, but, hit every mark from appetizer offering to dessert. We had several small plates to share and one was better than the next, however the meatballs with creamy polenta and the bruschetta of roasted peaches and prosciutto ranked top of the list. Although the steak was a bit chewy and difficult to cut/chew, the other sides of the plate were delicious so we'd try again. What a find in a beautiful neighborhood. We will be coming back often.
