About Tersiguel's French Country Restaurant

The Tersiguel family have been serving their unique version of French food for over 40 years. The menu at Tersiguel's is a combination of authentic French-style cooking and rustic country fare reminiscent of cuisine found in Tersiguel's original home of Brittany, France. Tersiguel's Cuisine is reflective of the seasons, with a garden that produces lettuces, herbs, vegetables, fruits and edible flowers. When the Garden is not producing Chef Michel Tersiguel will personally go and hand pick all fruit and vegetables at the whole sale market in Jessup, Maryland. Tersiguel's is quintessential French Country "from the farm to your plate" cooking. Chef Tersiguel describes his food as "French soul food". The Tersiguel family has operated one of the regions best restaurants for over 40 years and continues this tradition with annual ratings of "Best French Restaurant" from the Zagat and Baltimore Magazine.

The wine list is pricy as well as the menu. For just two of us we hit $200 quickly. The food was excellent - taste and presentation - and the service was wonderful. I started with the fish soup. It was very tasty. The presentation was in a large bowl and the soup was poured at the table. Great - except that the soup was then spread over a large area to a thin depth in a cold bowl. That combination made the soup cool very quickly. For the main course, I got the lamb. The initial shock was getting eight pieces of lamb that were each a little larger than a quarter in size. They were melt-in-your-mouth yummy and served on a bed of equally tasty garlic sauce. I had room for dessert. The crème caramel was some of the best I had ever tasted - very creamy - very good. I was comfortable when I left, but hungry by the time I got home. I guess that was better than feeling too stuffed.

Wonderful dining experience. We celebrated my birthday with a lovely romantic dinner for two. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. The cocktail drink menu is delicious. Yu must try the pear martini. I had the beet salad and it was heavenly. We don't dine here often but always have a wonderful time when we do. This is a real Ellicott City gem.

We really enjoyed our return here after a long hiatus since it is quite a distance for us. We were greeted warmly on a cold night and had excellent service throughout from our main waitress and a waiter who assisted. Highlights were a special soup (creamy fennel, potato, and cress poured over roasted radicchio with a long crouton), a light and savory beet salad, a country-style pate, the lemon curd and blackberry dessert, and an excellent vanilla creme brulee. There is something for every taste on the menu and we appreciated having a nice crusty baguette to nibble throughout the meal. The wine list has a nice selection and by-the-glass offerings are plenty varied and quite good. The dining room is on the small side, but feels larger because of its high ceiling and long windows with floor-length drapes. Overall it was quiet, but being small, you could not help but hear what people were saying at other tables from time to time.

We celebrated New Years Eve with friends at Tersiguel's. The food was fabulous as always. The 5 course prefixe menu was a great value at $80.00. Though the service was attentive and proficient, it was a bit rushed (it was our NYE celebration after all and was meant to be enjoyed over time). We would definitely recommend it to friends.

We have had incredible experiences at Tersiguel’s along with regrettable experiences. When my out-of-town father asked where he could take our family for a New Years Eve celebration I suggested Tersiguel’s. I was never told it would be a prix fixe menu (keeping options limited for kitchen staff but guaranteeing a certain revenue for the restaurant). The service was slow to our third floor location and often arrived to the table over-talking the current conversation. Essentially the service and food did not match our expectations. We will return for a quiet Sunday afternoon when we can order from the full menu but we will avoid holidays in the future.

We have enjoyed Tersiguel's many times over the years, but this time it really fell flat - and on our 45th wedding anniversary! We were seated at a romantic table in the small and usually quiet bar area (recommended by reliable Charlie). Two drunks at the bar then began to argue loudly (and with profanity). Our champagne cocktails were very good, but we couldn't converse over the shouting at the bar. We asked to be moved. By then, our server had told us the day's specials, and I immediately had asked her to put in an order of the oysters to hold for me. She assured me that there would be no need - they had "plenty." By the time that our order was placed later, though, the oysters were sold out. I opted for the other special - a broccolini soup. No luck. Two pots, one containing hazelnut oil (I have a life-threatening allergy) had just been combined. I tasted my husband's soup from the regular menu. I'd had it before, but this batch had a peculiar, off-putting flavor. He also ordered foie gras, which he described as flavorless, with the texture of sweetbreads. I gave up on appetizers. Entrees: my rockfish special was good though not properly seasoned, and in presentation it wasn't especially attractive - just a log of beige in the middle of the plate. My husband's veal chop ($42), though, was unforgivable. Our server conveyed the chef's recommendation that it be ordered medium rare, and my husband agreed. It was served well done. My husband told me later that he didn't return it because the evening was already a disaster, and he just wanted to leave. In contrast to past meals, even the rustic bread was substandard in flavor and texture - a change in bakeries? Other omissions: the amuse bouche that Tersiguel's regularly serves between courses was missing (or forgotten), and no chardonnay (!) was available to order by the glass. Tersiguel's, what on earth has happened to you??? We are "foodies," and this experience was terrible.

The food was amazing. I had oysters, saumon, and creme brulee. The service was exceptional. Our server was attentive, but not intrusive. Everything was timed perfectly. Every room is absolutely adorable. We had a nice view of Main Street (decorated for the holidays) from our table. It was an absolutely perfect night out.

The last time we dined at Tersiguel's was a decade ago. We had fond memories of our dining experience there and since it was a special birthday celebration for me I suggested we return. We were extremely pleased with the food, service, ambience and will not wait another decade to return.

As usual, Tersiguel's never disappoints for a special occasion dinner. Charlie and the rest of the staff make the experience even more enjoyable. The food itself is magnificent - and if you want a special treat for dessert - I highly recommend the Crepes Suzette.

Maitre’d was very welcoming and friendly as was the whole staff. Excellent food all around. We really enjoyed our meal and the experience of your restaurant. Elegant but casual. We have been there before but was our first time going with our daughter (5 years old) and we felt everyone was friendly to her too. It helped that at first we were alone and then when other tables filled, there was a lot of appropriately jovial and loud conversations.

My wife and I dined at Tersiguel's on Thanksgiving.

They had a prix fixe menu.

The soup was a bit thin, the salad was a joke, but the main course (turkey, ham, stuffing, etc.) made up for it all.

My husband and I had dinner at Tersiguel's on Thanksgiving Day.

Service: The server was pleasant, friendly, and knowledgeable and struck that sometimes tricky balance of giving us just the right amount of attention without driving us crazy with too many interruptions. High marks for service!

Food: Because of the holiday, it was a prix fixe menu with three options. We chose the traditional turkey dinner. The first course was a Butternut Squash Soup that was truly a triumph. Creamy without being loaded with cream. In fact, if there was cream in the soup, it was only a touch. Don't get me wrong -- I see this as a good thing! Seasoned perfectly, it was remarkable how well-balanced the flavors were. That soup, some crusty bread, and a green salad, would make a perfect winter's meal. Speaking of crusty bread, servers came by regularly offering us bread. The bread was delicious but cold. It would have been lovely to have the bread served warm. The salad that came next was the only part of the meal that struck an off-note. I appreciate the creativity of cinnamon-dusted croutons and raw cranberries, but the sum total just didn't work for me. Lovely, disparate flavors, just did not come together to make a satisfying whole. The main course, turkey, cranberry sauce, and dressing, was superb. Some of the tastiest, moist, and tender turkey I've ever eaten. And they were not stingy with the portions: my plate was piled high! A side of broccolini was served family style in a small saucepan. It was perfectly cooked and finished with a silky coating of butter. What can I say about dessert? Pumpkin mousse with delightful raspberries buried underneath served in a chocolate cup. [pictured below] It was decadent perfection! And yes, I ate the whole thing including the chocolate cup!

Summary: With the exception of the salad, this was a superb meal... a meal to remember! Bravo, Tersiguel's!

We chose Tersiguel's for a family birthday celebration, and they responded in fine fashion. Clearly the family run enterprise takes great pride in its French roots and its culinary excellence. Every dish from the Coquilles St. Jacques to the Canard were meticulously prepared and presented, but what makes this kitchen excel in my opinion are the excellent sauces. Service is high-end, yet unpretentious - aimed at making sure our experience was the best. Our waiter seemed skilled at reading the mood and responding in kind. Set in a historic townhouse in quaint old Ellicott City, it's perfectly situated for a nice before or after dinner stroll through town. Desserts were likewise creative, covering a broad landscape from light creme broulee to dense chocolate and everything in between. The family takes great pride in their enterprise and it shows.

My wife and I went out for an early dinner before another function in Howard County. Our server Ed was warm and very helpful in allowing us to have a relaxed dinner and still make our evening event. We had two classics, foie gras and escargot, for our starters. And had the two fish special of the evening, both of which were delicious. Great dinner!
