My husband and I went for our 40th anniversary. I put that in the Open Table reservation, but no one said anything at the restaurant. The first impression was poor - an empty first floor - the restaurant is upstairs. The French food was VERY good and the high prices would be good value if the ambience matched the food, but it did not. No table cloths - placemats from IKEA. Waiter in an untucked check shirt. Maybe they were different before Covid, but with those prices, we deserved a better anniversary experience. I would recommend this restaurant for foodies who don't care about more than the food.
If was very lovely and such a great environment to chat, eat and have fun!!
This place was awesome the service the staff everything was to perfection.
Staff cancelled my reservation last minute. Disgusting service by a business, as they accommodated a larger group of 10 for a preferred time slot (of I'm assuming 7:30 pm) since they were calling anyone who had reservations from 7pm or earlier (in my case I was 6 PM) and they wanted those people to come in at 5PM. This is horrible business practice, as they are only looking out for themselves to generate as much business as possible due to covid restrictions. I was told my 5 pm slot was tentative but then received a confirmation email it was confirmed at that time. In the time I went to speak to my wife, within 10 minutes they called me back telling my reservation was cancelled due to not calling them back & they booked someone else in my spot who had just called them (even though I had made reservations almost a week in advance).
Absolutely horrendous business practice, not to mention I was hung up on twice by their completely undertrained & unprepared staff. 1st the female staff hung up on me 9I assume she thought the conversation was over but it wasn't), then the male staff member hung up on me, as we were getting into a heated exchange about his cancelling my reservation, when I asked him to call back & cancel the other person who just booked (as opposed to me who booked a week in advance). I assume first booked does not apply at this restaurant.
I also contacted the owner, who didn't seem too interested in truly doing anything to resolve the issue & left the final decisions up to his incompetent staff, as his only offer was to give me a bottle of wine next time I come in & he just reiterated multiple times, he will make it up to me. I will never step foot in that restaurant again and I will ensure anyone I know never goes there as well. He lost a repeat customer (I have been multiple times), as I have never been treated so horrible in life.
Terrible business, terrible owner, terrible staff!! Rude & Disgusting behavior.
Great, Delightful and delicious.
Reserved table for 5 indoor dining for daughter’s 13th BDay. When we got there tried to sit us outdoor and said they did not get the reservation for indoor. Not sure I believe them. It was cold out we left. Disappointed. Won’t bother again with this restaurant found one with better reviews and friendlier. Luna restaurant in Newmarket. Food was awesome from appetizers calamari, speducci, etc to lamb, sea bass and seafood spaghetti, good wine. Will go back when it opens up. Great service
Staff was super friendly and very attentive. All seafood was cooked exceptionally, and do not leave without trying the coconut creme brulee. Everything we ate was great and overall we had an amazing experience.
We love coming here! Staff is super friendly and has taken great care of us each time we've been there!
Service was a tad slow today even though the restaurant wasn’t busy .. also thought that the meat patty was a bit small for its bun but was still tasty.
Our table was not set up when we were walked upstairs to be seated and had to stand while they quickly placed settings for us. Also the distance between the other tables was not enough considering Social distancing. On top of that I was every disappointed by the quality and taste of the food and had much higher expectations.
Also it was super hot upstairs to the point where we left as soon as the mains were done and didn’t even wait for dessert.
Great food and service; we will be back and recommend to friends!
This was a wonderful meal North of the 401! Here we have very great value for seafood done perfectly!! We love it here. There was a change in the chef, I think there is some improvements in their fusion French cuisine. Noted more attention to stronger seafood influence with every dish, taste was quite exquisite. Have to try the lobster bisque, not a creamy version, which is much lighter, and oh so tasty!! We had a wonderful California Chardonnay, great way to celebrate a Birthday and milestones to being debt FREE!! Yay!! The service was superb. We were gifted a creme Brulee on the house!! Definitely recommend coming here. 👍👍👌👌
Small servings, overcooked
Sat on the patio. Service was great! Food was good - mussels hot cold fast but had them reheated. Definitely recommend the escargot and bone marrow.
Great time celebrating our anniversary! We stuck with the fixed menu, where I had the beef tartare and my wife had the shrimp salad for starters. We then had a sirloin steak for me and a squid ink pasta for my wife. Dessert was a delicious coconut crème brûlée. Great time overall!
Great place in Markham for small gatherings! I like to sit outside the patio upstairs for a nice breeze. Their food is quite nice, portions are a little small and wish they had more choices for dessert.
Read a number of great reviews which built up my expectations. Came in at lunch with three people at 11:30 AM ordered a single item each promptly and finally got our food at 12:25 PM. Server was inattentive as glasses were empty throughout the meal. Food was decent but nothing to write home about.
Terre Rouge is our favourite spot in Markham. We eat there every anniversary and the food is phenomenal. A gem in the city.
They’re was not sufficient food for the price. French restaurants serve nice warm bread, not cold flat bread. Appetizers are tiny, and my dish had at best 4 or 5 piece of seafood, and the bass was flat and tasted like dry cod. Much improvement is required!
Excellent meat quality. Nothing more to write home about.
Pleasantly surprised. Every dish was very good and service was also very good.
3 birthday’s. Lovely food and fantastic service.
There has been a change in management and chef and it was very obvious.
While the server is one that stayed from previous crew and he was still fantastic, the other bus persons and manager were new and they did not live up to the previously established standards.
We ordered about 8 dishes and only one received good feedback from the table. That's just sad. We've been a semi regular patron since its opening and we are sad that we won't be going back for sure.
It took an hour to get our appetizers then arrived cold.
One of my favourite restaurants. Excellent food, service and ambience. Just missed the best GM ever. Hieu. Hope to see you soon!
We searched French restaurant to experience French cuisine. This place was in your region and we were there the first time.
Overall it is average, service was very caring.if you ask me what would make this place better, I will be glad to provide my feedback:
1. Cleanliness. French places are particularly paying attention to the ambiance. This place was not clean . Walking upstairs gave me a wrong vibe
2. Ic you claim this is French place, music should be particularly French to be engaged in the culture. Not a rock or country
3. Service. People were nice but would be great at least yo have a host and a few waiters with cultural background.
If you take my tips your restraint will look more like French and not like an ordinary Asian restaurant.
Thank you.
Amazing food amazing service Chen the owner does such a wonderful job with fabulous food and wine it’s a 5 star all the way
Mark, Olga and Vanessa
Overall, the experience was nice. I was disappointed with the seafood, we ordered Bone marrow and escargot, Chili glazed lambchops, and sea bass lobster. Excellent bone marrow, good chili glazed lambchops and terrible sea bass lobster. The sea bass was dry like a piece of leather, shrimps are the worst, the meat was stuck to the skin and by the time I got to the meat( by then there was only half of the meat left), it was crumbling like chewing sand! It must have been sitting in the fridge for a long time. The lobster was ok.
We ordered Mascarpone cheese cake and frozen Bailey's souffle coconut creme brulee. Don't even think to split the cheese cake with your partner as it was the size of one scoop of mascarpone cheese with a dinning spoon. The souffle was ok, can't even taste the Bailey's! All in all, it was an expensive dinner. Will not repeat.
Anniversary
Great food and service!
Great service and effort on the preparation. The ingredients and food itself could be better
Sad to hear about the change in chefs but our meal was still very good.
The place is one of our favourites. We fill up on all the appetizers and enjoy a glass of wine. The atmosphere and service is always excellent and the food even better. Highly recommend the scallops and also the mussels.
The quality of food is like that of nice restaurants downtown, but without the hassle of driving and hunting for parking. The beef tartar very good as was their steaks.
Nice restaurant but disorganized operationally. Service / servers were good. They weren’t able to honour our reservation location (we requested Outside) and so we had to wait for a table. Nobody was asked to offer us a drink or water while we waited at the bar. The food was fine but value on some of the dishes was highly questionable. Our appetizer order of scallops came with two scallops for $18 which is patently absurd. The mussels appetizer was fine in terms of portion size. Need to review their menu and make sure that portion sizes reflect value.
Overall a solid 3/5.
I thought the meals were overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. There are many better restaurants to visit at that price point. This is my 3rd time (and last time) back as I keep wanting to give it another try to see if it’ll be better. Service was really good and the owner was super friendly.
Never disappointed, service, food, wine always great
Celebrating my birthday, we always wanted to try terre rouge. We were seated in the upstairs patio which was spacious and well distanced from other guests. The service was impeccable and we never had any difficulty finding a waiter. Everything we ate was excellent. We ordered the beef tartar, shrimp asparagus salad, lobster bouillabaisse, lobster squid ink pasta, deconstructed mascarpone cheesecake and frozen baileys soufflé (a must!!!)
It was clear the menu was well conceptualized and executed. We ordered the prix fix menu for $55 a person which included An appetizer, main and the dessert. An amazing valued meal for modern French cuisine. We would highly recommend coming here to all our friends and family .
the bouillabaisse is one of the best in the city.
Good quantity and quality to the price! Servers all wear mask.
