We love Italian cuisine. It would be lovely if there were more Italian restaurants in the Portland area, but Terrane isn't helping that cause. Not a lot of menu choices with few classic Italian dishes. Also, no Italian restaurant worth it's salt charges for putting bread on the table. Then again, there was no salt on the table either. What's up with that trend? If you're serving Italian with less flavor than baby food, PLEASE put the salt & pepper shakers on every single table so patrons don't need to wait until the waitress comes back so they can ask her to get them. Then there's the salad. Terrane's "version" of a caesar salad is made with kale, KALE! This is NOT an episode of Portlandia, c'mon chef. Our order consisted of 1 order of bread, 1 salad, 1 beer, 3 pasta dishes, 2 of which were meatless, and the tab with tip was well over $100. Sooo overpriced for the quality AND the quantity. To add insult to injury the small tasteless portions were served in ridiculously oversized bowls, see pic. Sorry Terrane, but you have GOT to step it up. Garlic is excellent in Italian food. Try it, pleeease. No excuse for serving up such bland food.
Thank you again for a wonderful experience. Timothy and our waiters were fantastic! I will be back!
I recommend your hotel, restaurant, and Xport all the time!!! (food, service, view, location)
Amazing food and great service!
Very good food and drinks. Nice ambiance, not too noisy. I wish they had more vegetarian/vegan options.
Excellent service and good food all around. For sides we tried the au-gratin cauliflour which was delicious, the apple salad seemed a bit underwhelming with little to no dressing, and the pan seared greens with a kick which were delicious but rather overly salted. For main course we tried the shrimp scampi over pasta which was yummy and the whole grilled snapper with aromatics (this had a bit of a fishy smell unfortunately which made me wonder how fresh it was). Great location next to the Keller, nice quite ambiance with tall ceilings and so not to noisy though it was full by the time we'd left. I would reccomend sticking to the italian basics though since the fresh pasta was wonderful.
The food was not impressive, the portions small and we felt it was overpriced
We really enjoyed both the ambience and the delicious food! But even more impressive was the stellar service we received. We were late getting there due to traffic and the entire staff accommodated us as they knew we were going to the Keller for the play and our already limited time was even more limited. Everyone worked together and flawlessly to make the most of our super quick 3 course meal!
The salads were wonderful, lightly dressed and full of flavor, the entrees were imaginative (beet pasta was delightfully interesting and flavorful) and the desserts were killer.(Olive cake and Chocolate sea salted caramel budino)
Can’t wait to go again when we aren’t in a rush and can really enjoy and savor!
Highly recommend !!
We were going to a show at Keller Auditorium and this was only a couple of blocks away. Ambiance was nice, the food was good and our waitress was friendly and attentive. Our dinners included desserts, but we were running late, so they let us come back after the show and finish our meal. We’ll go back.
Small portions for price, taste & quality. Second time we’ve tried. Probably won’t return. For the price there are many other top notch places to go in the area.
Service was slow. Told server we need to leave in 75 min for a show and ended up having to wolf down the food just to make it in time. We felt forgotten about despite being in the traffic lane for the servers. The food was bland and looked like it came from a middle school cafeteria. A bad middle school. The portions were smaller than advertised but in this case, I count that a blessing. This is the first time I have taken time to write a bad review but I was moved to want to warn others based on our experience.
Creative, excellent cuisine—coupled with amazing service. Couldn’t ask for a better pre-theater experience. Thank you!
All good except server James (?) was a bit cloying. I never understand why servers ask if “we” have questions or if “we” are ready to order when it’s “you” since they are not ordering ...! Would “we” like coffee? Not sure about you, server, but I would/would not ...
Food was great..was little noisy, service was slow initially but then they made it up for that by taking off the drinks from our bill. Overall a nice place
First of all, the cocktails we had were absolutely AMAZING!! Whomever the bartender was on Valentine's Day made the BEST dirty Martini and Old Fashion we've ever had. Period. Hands down.
The wait staff was fantastic. Angela's attitude complimented her desire to serve and make out experience fantastic. If you have the chance and she's working, ask to sit in her section.
And now the food. Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! There was NOTHING we didn't like. The Chef is a genius and the restaurant is very lucky to have him.
Bottom line is my expectations were blown out of the water. This place is amazing from the time you walk in the door until the time you leave. You will be doing yourself a disservice if you do not go there to eat.
The food and environment were outstanding. The service could have been better, the waiter was very nice, just not attentive to empty water glasses, etc. overall, I’d highly recommend.
This was a second visit that confirmed our first impressions. The dining room is lovely and the service is very good. There are quiet areas that allow great conversation - something you don't always find these days. Drinks are well made. And, the food is good... but not more than that, at least in our experience so far. We like the atmosphere enough, though, that we'll likely give it another try before too long.
I was not very impressed. We were seated quickly but the best I can say is the entire meal felt overly "efficient". I am not a fan of being rushed to eat and this was very hurried. It also felt cold and uninviting. We were seated and the menu looked great. We ordered their albacore crudo with arugula and pine nuts to start which was lovely but the table seemed very empty even with our lemonades and water...there was a single tiny candle at the table. Some bread perhaps - especially in an Italian space?? My husband had their carbonara which was lovely. I got the swordfish which was just the fish. With the price tag I was pretty amazed it was just the piece of fish - especially since it was nothing extraordinary. My husband wanted to try their cauliflower gratin which we ordered and found it to contain two tiny pieces of cauliflower. We barely touched it so she respectfully did not charge us for it and listened to our feedback. Our waitress was very nice but almost seemed at our table too much. She offered me a lemonade refill and I had barely sipped the one I had...having plates cleared while you are still eating on them feels so very rushed. The whole meal just felt overly expensive and rushed.
We came for a birthday dinner. The service was amazing and the food was fresh and unique and delicious. Definitely recommend this restaurant. We even brought our 4 year old so this restaurant is family friendly.
Food was really good. It took about 40 minutes from ordering to get our entrees. Other than that it would have been 5 stars. Don’t come here if you have to be on time to something afterward.
Have been here a few times and the menu is wonderful, drinks and wines superb but I am shocked at how few people know this wonderful gem hidden in the ground level of The Porter Hotel! The restaurant is beautifully designed and the wait staff excellent and knowledgeable, but the food is what has us returning! We will be back, and hope the word gets out so others can enjoy this great find!
I've eaten here a number of times and had good food and I eat lunch on occasion because it is close to my office. But dinner on Friday night was awful.
The menu said short ribs. Those were not short ribs. They were mammoth sized beef ribs. They were super fatty and greasy and then the ultimate insult, not even seasoned.
The service was great, the drinks and dessert were good. But you should do yourself a favor and remove those "short ribs" from the menu.
The food took over an hour to arrive and when it came it was cold. They did not charge us for the meals. The service was great and we knew it was not her fault.
This was the first time at this restaurant and we were going to a show with some friends. The show started at 7:30 so we made our reservation for 5, which is usually enough time to eat and get to the theater. We arrived at 5 and were seated. We informed our waitress that we were going to the show and she said it would be no problem. We ordered cocktails which came very timely.
The waitress initially was very attentive and was knowledgeable about the menu, which was very informative. We ordered salads and our entrees.
Once we were finished with our salads, the service went downhill very quickly. There was a very long break between the salads and the entrees. We started to notice that other tables that were seated after us were starting to get their meals. It was approaching 6:40 and we still had not received our meals.
We flagged down the waitress, who had not been back to check on us since our salads, except to pour a little wine. No mention on the progress of our meals. We asked about our dinners and our time constraint. She said that she did not know about our meals and that the restaurant had becomes slammed. She never said that she would check on them or mentioned our time issues.
At about 6:50,I asked the hostess about our meals. She said she would look for them as the waitress never did. The meals did start coming out except for one entree. We also needed more silverware. The waitress brought those but still did not mention anything about the missing dinner. I eventually got up to ask about the entree. The waitress again was no where to be found so I asked the hostess agin who located our waitress and asked about the missing meal. The waitress looked at our tab and seemed confused. My wife asked about it and she said they were looking into it. I found a manager and told him that were were missing one meal and we had 15 mins before leaving. He apologized and looked into. He came back and was very sorry and told us our entire meal was on him.
If my stomach could applaud Terrane it would give it a standing ovation. Bravo!
Decide to have dinner prior to the show at the Keller. What a wonderful surprise!! Our first time eating there and loved everything: food, wine, beer and service. Gorgeous presentIon!
Good food. Excellent service. Unique pairings. Check out the scallops with mushrooms and pork belly.
Second visit for pre-theater dinner. It was equally as good as the first visit a few months ago, with enough diversity in the menu to be used as one of the go-to place before Keller events. Will definitely return.
We had a great time. Dinner with my wife before a play. Tara was great!
We went for our anniversary and they really made it a special night for us with a few treats during our meal :D . The food, drinks and service were AMAZING. The ambiance it romantic and cozy.
The service was a bit slow (water and wine glasses became empty before we were provided/asked if we wanted refills), but our server was vey pleasant and knowledgeable. Her recommendations were spot on. Unfortunately, something was going on with the lighting. Every so often, the lights would dim for a while, then get brighter. It was noticeable and frequent enough that it detracted from the ambiance of the evening. That said, it was a fine pre-show meal, and we'll come here again.
Very busy Christmas Day! Wonderful food and presentation; provocative and interesting wine list. However, service while friendly lacked precision in several small ways--e.g. had to ask for the wine/cocktail list, after ordering cocktails arrived late, glass of wine ordered to accompany a main course arrived when I was almost finished.
We had been to this restaurant when The Porter 1st opened and we really enjoyed the food and service we received, so we were excited to head back there on Christmas Day.
The service we received from our server was very poor, he didn't know who he was serving, it was like he didn't have assigned area so was walking around the full restaurant working with other tables and forgetting about us.
The food was great on the set Christmas Day menu, until dessert..after waiting over half an hour the Tiramisu it didn't have any espresso!!
The staff was attentive and the food was delicious. We had the Christmas meal with wine pairing.
The night of the five fishes was an experance that will not be forgotten and I hope they will do again.
Service was really good food was just ok.
Great food and service! They are reasonably priced but wine prices are a bit high.
I was excited to try this place for dinner so I took my adult daughters here for the holidays. My server never once filled my glass of water & only checked on us once. The food was ok, but not for Portland. I had a pasta dish & we were not even served bread? The wine selection was pretty decent though, although my daughters dirty martini was terrible & we had to send it back. It is a pretty cool looking place though. Out of all of our other fabulous choices in Portland, I probably won’t return.
Delightful service, love the mushrooms, and the changing specials help keep this fresh. Always greeted with graceful welcome.
