Three of us got together to celebrate a birthday. Terrain Cafe was a wonderful choice for this. The servers were very attentive, the food came out promptly, and we all liked our choices. The bread baked in a flower pot is a fun feature. Next time I hope it’s warm enough to eat outside. It’s a good thing we had a reservation for our Sunday lunch because without that there would have been a 45 minute wait. Guess this place has been discovered!
Always enjoyed to rain I’ve been there multiple times for different occasions foods always excellent nice wine selection outdoors is wonderful during summerAnd spring
Terrain Cafe was the perfect spot for a ladies’ lunch. The decor is creative and fun, food is delicious, and service was friendly and professional. My friend and I both loved it!
Absolutely the worst ‘lunch’ I’ve had on the Peninsula in recent memory. The egg salad sandwich was served on dry toast, on an empty plate, which resembled something like a school cafeteria meal. Bland, unattractive, and expensive. Not a good combination. I definitely won’t go back, nor recommend it to anyone.
they forgot to put my friend's order in, so she just sat there waiting while the tables next to us, who came after we did, were served . At least they apologized and took it off the bill.
Food was pretty and tasty, just somewhat overpriced
Service was very good, ambiance was perfect for brunch and food choices were great, however some of the food we had that was a bit disappointing in their preparation. Perhaps for a Sunday there was too much of a crowd and the cooks got overwhelmed. We will return again for lunch\brunch but not on the week end.
Food is fresh and well-prepared, though be prepared for small(er) portions. The bread was delicious and comes in a little terra cotta pot. The grilled octopus was tender, though I was glad that I asked for the sauce on the side since it was way too spicy for me. Brussels sprouts was well cooked & seasoned. My friend had the prosciutto appetizer and portions were small. She also ordered fries and they didn't seem fresh - looks refried & limp. The "make-your-own" spritzer was delicious.
Service was friendly throughout, though not consistent and can be a bit abrupt.
This is the second time I have been to Terrain, and it was really nice. Everything we had was good— highlights were the cheese board and the pistachio hummus (way more than I was expecting a hummus dish to be). I’ve always loved their complimentary bread in a flower pot with the bomb butter, too. The service was so friendly and attentive. The restaurant just had that vibe that everyone there was working really hard and very observant of their guests.
My first trip there was a disappointment yet this visit was so good that I felt compelled to write a really nice review! Second chances are always a good idea. :) Thanks for the wonderful service, good food, and beautiful atmosphere. I am impressed!
Excellent service and ambience. The only thing they could do to improve is to provide medium rare steak when I requested it (got well done instead) and to not over cook their salmon. Otherwise well done and thank you :)
We have eaten here several times however, the salads were a little flat (salad dressing bland, few vegetables),and we had expected more as this has been such a driver with the new and tasty cuisine. The cheese platter was also disappointing for the cost and very small portions of cheese, some of which we didn't eat. I still love the restaurant and will probably go back again and try albeit a fresher menu.
food, flavors are excellent. service always very attentive and friendly
Meh it was ok. Period. Adequate menu. Honestly it’s not bad. Fresh options. Food was eatable. Bright and sunny.
Terrain has a breezy, upbeat energy about it, from the wide plank flooring and foresty decor to the open kitchen. The food is straight-forward, well-seasoned, perfectly plated and delivered by friendly and engaging servers. Can't go wrong with the celery root bisque with crab, the fabulous Brussels sprouts with lardons or the buratta toast on Acme bread. The salad of fresh greens with cherry tomatoes and Pt. Reyes Bleu was perfectly dressed. The winter pear polenta upside down cake was surprisingly delicious and served warm with creme fraiche was a nice touch.
Terrain is a lovely spot in the heart of Stanford Shopping mall. From the welcoming decor (the lighted trees and feel...like being in an enchanted forest), to the little details (warm bread served in a planter, and the craftsman dishes), the restaurant does a fantastic job making its customers feel pampered. We enjoyed the salads, including the kale and mandarin salad (very refreshing), as well as the starters (great brussel sprouts and burrata). Overall, it was a great dining experience with friends.
Love the location and the food! Attentive server and you cannot have it any better to be able to shop at Anthropologie after eating😀
The first time I came to Terrain was the grand opening and it was SO good! This time I came with a dear friend for a holiday lunch and we both ordered the quiche which was very dry and tasteless. Disappointing. We also ordered Rose sparkling wine and were not told by the waiter that there was one Rose for 9 dollars and one for 20 dollars. He of course brought us the 20 dollar wine. While we may have chose it with a better description we were surprised. Also, the waiter forgot our order so the food was VERY delayed. No consideration was offered. I will try Terrain again.
Lovely restaurant, Great service and very good food.
Very inexperienced staff. Everyone Needs a lot of training. From the hostess, server, and food runner. Or maybe it was the manager not sure but whoever needs training. Trying to be nice. Maybe I will give another try in a few months. It’s still very new.
Great ambiance and menu. Love the different choices and freshness of the food. Service can be slow, but beautiful place.
Great place! Food quality was exquisite. The pistachio hummus and fresh backed bread and butter was delicious! Definitely recommend!
Mader reservation for 3 for 11:45 on a Friday (made that morning). We ordered a cup of soup and the Brussels Sprouts. Both great. I ordered the mixed greeen salad with salmon. My friends both ordered the burger. Food was outstanding! My salmon was perfectly done, very moist with deep mahogany crispy skin. Also 3 slices of a wonderful cheese on the salad. May have been Humbolt fog. The bergers arrived with a fried egg on top!. Again, perfectly done, moist and delicious. No room for dessert but we were all delighted with the experience and will definitely be back soon!
It is very consistent Okay place - from food, service to ambience
Offers some unique food options. Bread is good--ask for it to be warmed if it doesn't come that way. Soup was very good, though not as hot as I would have liked.
The restaurant is under new management and the quality of the food has really changed. We always get the kale caesar and it's now half the size with just a little sprinkle of parmesan. So disappointing.
Food was not as good as my first experience. The Napa salad was tiny as if the restaurant had split one salad between the two of us, it was not well presented nor prepared in terms of quantity of ingredients. It looked as if it was thrown on the plate. The chicken addition was fine. Terrain needs to up its preparation, plating, presentation and portions for salads. Restaurants nearby have better food and prices. The server was wonderful and the restaurant is convenient within the Anthropologie Store.
I ordered the terrain salad based on my servers recommendation. The greens were wilted, the Napa cabbage looked and tasted 5 days old, the pluots were tasteless, almond were pre chopped and from a package. I told the server it was bad and she could take it away. She took it away and said nothing. She could have mentioned to the kitchen and they could have offered to bring me something else or take off the bill. How can you mess up a salad? How Can the restaurant pride itself for being seasonal and organic when they are serving ingredients that are not in season ?( pluots) I have never had a dish come to me in a restaurant and it was so bad I was not able to eat it. It didn’t even look appetizing. Very disappointing especially for first time. First impressions are crucial, won’t be going back. Too bad!
I'm kind of traditional and not into the more exotic foods. So I had the burger with fries. Both were excellent. I usually don't care much for fries; these were great and I ate them all. The burger was good too; but what can you say about a burger? Properly cooked (med rare) good taste, nice with avocado. On the menu I probably would have liked more choices along the traditional line; but that just me.
Love the bread presentation and the atmosphere .. love the fact that you can shop and eat together
The ambience is fantastic, service is excellent, food was good, but salad was small for the price. Tasty, but small.
I really like the atmosphere of Terrain Cafe; however, the food selections were a bit mediocre and pricey.
Three stars were given for the vegetable board - first time that I tried it . I've had the hamburger more than once, and I would rate that five stars. I would also rate the breakfast choices between four and five stars.
Prices were not fair for the quality of food and service. Half of our order was good but nothing amazing, and the other half was below average and under- proportioned for the price. No, I don’t usually eat at Denny’s and expect giant proportions— this place just really did have tiny proportions for highly priced and average quality for. Service was friendly but a little distracted.
Our 7th time
We love the place ,the service ,the ambience
We found the restaurant very pleasant...probably more for shoppers stopping in but o.k. for destination diners. Our waitress was excellent and caring. The food was good and the ambience very pleasant. I will probably go back for lunch with friends.
The food is outstanding and the service impeccable! Highly recommend!!
No byob policy is odd/a put off for dinner. Explanation for why was weak and delivered unapologetically. Food was inventive and pretty good. Might go for lunch but not for dinner just because of the no byob policy.
Love the atmosphere and the healthy fanciful food here!
Waitress was amazing!
The wait service was outstanding! We arrived a little early and had a wonderful time sampling the wine options and reviewing the menu. Thank you and yes, highly recommend this restaurant for a lunch option.
