We walked out after being ignored for 10 minutes- no attention- no water and the place was empty and lots of folks working. It was also like a refrigerator in there. Way too cold.
Terrain’s menu is creative and offers a good diversity of choices; the space is warm and welcoming, as are the servers. The food is nice, but surprisingly bland. The ingredients are fresh and high quality, but somehow the food doesn’t deliver the “punch” it should. Nonetheless, I’ve had very healthy meals here (and some indulgences, too — don’t skip the warm bread served in a flower pot: just delicious!) and hope that in time, the food will gain a little more flavor.
Service was slow and imcomplete
Great food, nice surroundings. Glad we went. Would recommend this place to anyone especially if you are vegetarian or vegan.
Sent my daughter there with her college friends. We have a Terrain in PA and it’s one of our favorites. The Bethesda location was excellent as well. Accommodating for Celiac (gluten free) and just excellent food, atmosphere and service. Love this restaurant!!!
We appreciate the wonderfully fresh ingredients, combined beautifully, and presented well. We have enjoyed multiple dinners at Terrain and found the food fabulously consistent and great. We have enjoyed each visit.
We enjoy the consistently delicious food at Terrain Cafe. The servers are very trained, always friendly, warm and knowledgeable about the menu. Finally a restaurant where we can carry out a conversation with your fellow dinners without having to shout! Thank you!
The food here was so delicious!!! Started with the mushroom soup which was a must have. Husband had the charcuterie board which was also perfect. Three great selections of cheeses. I had the salmon which was so flaky and moist and the cauliflower tabbouleh was a great accompaniment. Husbands scallops were the best we’ve ever had anywhere. And the roasted corn had a surprising kick. We will definitely return! Service was great and manager on duty was very attentive.
Service at brunch was extremely slow
The fresh squeezed lemonade tasted like sugar water, and the soda was just sparkling water with an after taste. The food was no better, honestly one of the worst meals I've had. The salad had no dressing, and the burrata toast was uneatable.
The server was pretty cold and the food was close to inedible for dinner. The dishes either had too much salt, not enough salt, over cooked or undercooked. Will not go back for dinner.
This was my first time at Terrain. I'll definitely be back. We had the panko crusted avocado, salmon toast and one of the bowls. All agreed that the food was very good. Our server was knowledgable (We had a lot of questions.) and pleasant. The atmosphere is lovely. A delicious, relaxing and fun meal.
Great farm-to-table fare in a cozy ambience.
Was not a fan of the food, but for the charcuterie plate which was good. The wild mushroom soup was foul and made two of us ill.
Not very good. The service was slow; the menu extremely limited; the food average at best; and the price was way too much. We will not go back unless it’s cheaper or improved.
Went during restaurant week. Options available on the RM were good and of reasonable size.
Great dining experience and wonderful with my kids. Sat outside on a beautiful summer day.
We ate outside this visit and it was a lovely evening in Bethesda. The food was interesting and delicious once again. In fact I took half of my main course home because the portions were so generous.
Great food and ambiance
Inventive menu; everything was delicious!! Lovely setting. Reasonable prices. Attentive service. We’ll be back!!
Beautiful outdoor dining
Comfortable, friendly, great place to talk without raising your voice. Lunch menu has interesting variety. Will become a favorite place for lunch in Bethesda.
Great outdoor seating options. The waiters were wonderfully accommodating to our food sensitivities. When we got one item confused (it wasn't their error) they graciously made another plan. The burger was to die for said my brother.
I absolutely love Terrain! It's a wonderful, different, addition to Bethesda and its many restaurants. The organic menu is delicious; the ambiance is beautiful (love the plants!); the staff is very friendly. I recommend it all the time to friends and acquaintances.
Excellent breakfast food, great coffee, and wonderful service
We enjoyed our dinner at Terrain. It was not busy, so the noise level was low which was brilliant. Service was excellent. The food is very good, although the kale salad was pretty blah - this is a creative cafe in many ways, so we hope they may liven up a dish like this. Avocado toast was delish! And very good burgers.
We had a really nice evening at Terraine after a movie at Landmark. Our server, whose name starts wtih a D....Demetrius? was so friendly and conscientious. He answered all of our questions and provided information that was new to us.....like how to mix a really good Old Fashioned. He even brought over the manager to share her recipe for a great drink. He was a terrific server. The food was quite good....a bit overpriced....but nicely prepared and expertly served. We'll try Terrain again and hope to find the same great service.
Always a pleasant experience, as the food is fresh and quite tasty, and the servers, managers, chefs, and all other staff are helpful and affable. We enjoy eating outside in their shaded and inviting space.
good for lunch with a friend, food was very good. First time I had the breakfast, second time a board with cheese and charcuterie. I liked the first meal better. The meat on the board was too greasy for me.
Yummy, and quiet, and reasonable. A trifecta!!
salad with salmon was disappointing because most of it was very strange lettuce.....
not worth the money and we won’t be back
I've been to the Terrain in PA, and was so excited to see that there's one now here more local in MD. I checked out Bethesda with a friend of mine, and we had a lovely time! Our waitress was so patient with us, and really allowed us to enjoy ourselves leisurely. The 'terrarium' dessert is AMAZING. I will definitely be back!!!
Good Ambiance, smart table toppings, creative menu, smart ingredients..... BUT
Lacking taste, flavor & the Umami factor.
Menu sounds good, wish it tasted just as good!
Went to meet a friend for lunch. The restaurant was almost empty. We felt rushed into making our selections. Ordered. Got our food which was excellent. We were ignored and treated in a surly manner the balance of our visit. Won’t be rushing back.
I want to like Terrain. I do. The atmosphere is lovely and I'm a regular Anthro shopper so I'm often there. It's only 5 minutes from my house. And yet. The food options are so... odd. Sometimes being different and experimental is good. But I haven't found one person (I'm a local 40ish female patron with a large social circle) who loves the food. Most, like me, continue to search for something they would order again. Others don't care enough about food (all my starving x-ray friends) to let that stop them from going bc the location is so good. Anyway, my hope is that someday Terrain Cafe will stop trying to impress all of us with their innovative ways of making a dish and, instead, will make their food taste so good that I'll want to order it again.
Early meal. Very quiet in the restaurant, which was pleasant. Servers quite pleasant. Food interesting and enjoyable, but slow to arrive. Prices a little high for a casual “cafe”. All told, a pleasant little place!
Very pretty. Noisy. Great food! I had the avocado toast, which was exceptional. But, prices are too high! Excellent service.
While our wait person was very nice, she was not very attentive.
Amazing quinoa bowl- I added avocado it. Beautiful presentation, delicious taste and hearty entree!
My friends and I had a wonderful lunch. The food really was outstanding, from the bread with lavender honey butter, French fries, lamb kofka, and other entrees. The mushroom soup was incredible. The wait staff was attentive but unobtrusive as we grabbed along. We all had a fabulous time and look forward to going back.
