First comment would be the name (Stewart Penick's) is not outside...it's just Terrace so we drove, called the restaurant several times with no one picking up, so the name is a bit misleading. We were seated, the waitress brought us menu's, and water. We were looking at the menu trying to decide what to order - we asked for straws for the 2 of us, she brought us 8 and left them on the table. She then brought over bread (no plates) after trying the bread which was dry and not good....so we decided to leave. It was Saturday night and only 4 other folks were downstairs. Date night is important to us -but more so is service. Clearly the service is not there - so we left and went to another restaurant where the service was outstanding and worth the $150 we spent. My advice would be update your chairs, train your servers better-we won't be back anytime soon and we won't be recommending it to our friends unfortunately.
Just awful. Would not go back.
It was average.
Would not recommend for dinner, although the food was fine and the menu had a good selection of choices. Restaurant setup is odd, tables are well below the windows so the feel is that of sitting in a basement. Very few people were dining but the service was very slow. Would try it for breakfast as one of the waitresses said that is what they are known for and when they see more of a crowd.
Terrible dinner service. We had a 35 minute wait for entree that came wrong. The didn’t have two items that we ordered and didn’t even tell us. They just gave us what was available. We left and only ate the appetizer. Totally disappointed. They were totally unprepared and we were the only one there in a empty restaurant .
THE LESS THAN GREAT REVIEW WAS BECAUSE WHEN WE ARRIVED THE "HOSTESS" HAD TO BE TOLD TO SEAT US AND ANOTHER COUPLE WHILE SHE WAS SITTING AT THE BAR WITH ANOTHER
EMPLOYEE. THE FOOD WAS NOTHING SPECTACULAR BUT GOOD
AS THEY SAY FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVEYTHING
Really loved the food, the only reason I have service 4 stars was because they seemed a little disorganized. We had to ask for things that should’ve been obvious like silverware and the rest of the side plates we ordered. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this place for any occasion! The food was killer!
We had dinner around 7:00 and we were the only people in the entire restaurant with the exception of 2 other tables that came in as we were leaving. Two other restaurants in the vicinity that we tried to get into were fully booked. This makes me think that dinner is not their strong point. the Terrace used to have a much more gourmet look/feel to the menu which was much more appealing, but now it's jam packed with selections. Is it really possible for a small restaurant to prepare that many items successfully? My broccoli cheese soup was homemade but very thin. My husband's entree was covered with vegetables that was not part of the description on the menu. I think it might be a better breakfast location. We won't be back for dinner.
Great food and great service!
Our waitress Lauren was fantastic!
Food was below average
Lovely restaurant! Nice location, the food is great, service is amazing. I've been here twice and I've never had any bad experience. The only thing I can say I disliked was the noise but hey, if there's a lot of people it has to be a good restaurant right? ;)
The restaurant was closed when we arrived. No notification. Fortunately many restaurants close by to eat.
Known for their breakfast- decided to check it out for dinner! It was dead quiet. Couldn’t decide why they even open at nite. Food was ok-won’t return for dinner. Breakfast/ lunch / brunch- yes
We ate here at 6:30 on a Saturday night. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant, and by the time we left around 8pm there was not another customer to be found. It was a little off-putting to be so deserted. And considering we were virtually the only people in there I was surprised by how slow/inattentive the service was. All that said, the food was delicious and well-prepared. I just hope they can get enough customers to come so they can continue serving dinner!
Mathew is the best ! The service is top notch. I really enjoyed the red velvet waffles.
This was my first visit. I was a bit disappointed because I choose the resturants for me my husband and another couple. We were going to an event near by so I thought this would be a great place to dine. We arrived shortly after 4pm on 8/25/17 there was a pile of trash by the hostes stand we had to step over this to get to the dinning area. Three of us ordered chicken and waffles the waffles were great .we we all felt that the chicken was really dry. My husband ordered the terrace chicken and he said it was good. I was more disappointed because I invited another couple thinking I Made A good choice.
Waitress was horrible. Has to wait 5 minutes just for her to come take out drink order
The reservation was held and they had the table for 2 setup and offered us a larger table by the window - very nice. The food was delicious although the service was sparse; our appetizers were not taken away, I had to ask for extra water, and we didn't have bread plates on the table when the bread was delivered which we didn't realize until after the fact and while waiting for the waitress for a few minutes we just grabbed plates from another table. Over the 45-60 minutes we were there the waitress came by 3 times: here's your table, here's your apps, here's your meal. We had to flag her down for the water and the bill. She was friendly but not attentive.
Excellent mushroom appetizer and roasted beet salad Tasty pork tenderlion but potato pancakes were 50/50. They were crispy great on the edges but way to soggy in the middle
Visited Terrace Café for the first time yesterday. Overall was very pleased with the atmosphere, diverse menu and friendly service. I had the pork BBQ sandwich w/onion rings, and it was very tasty. May try a different sauce next time. The desserts looked tempting as well. There's truly something for everyone here.
Very disappointed. Order was incorrect. What I received had a very well prepared piece of salmon, but not a Cobb salad that I ordered. Menu had
little creativity.
Our server was very pleasant and attentive.
The food was delicious!!!!! The only downfall is the long wait to get in for brunch on a Saturday or Sunday
Great Brunch!!! Restaurant was recommended as a "must" since moving to Charlotte a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint!
We had a poor experience. It was Valentines. They were understaffed. Our waitress had 13 tables and she was nice but harried. Our First courses of soup and salad took 30 minutes to come out. The soup was cold. Dinner came out before we finished first course and it was only luke warm. It tasted ok except for the temperature of the food. I have had lunches there that were good, so this was a disappointment.
Our waitress, Iris, was welcoming and attentive. Chicken and waffles were terrific. Was our first visit. Will definitely go back.
We were so glad to get a last minute reservation through Open Table on Valentine's Day. We got the special and it was really tasty - steak and crab cakes. It was fun to be given a rose and have champagne to celebrate. It would have been nice to have some bread while waiting for our meal even though we probably didn't "need" it. We did wait an extra long time for our dessert which was not the cake we were expecting but a chocolate mousse dessert that was really good but very rich - a sprig of mint would have been nice with it. All in all a very nice experience at one of my favorite restaurants.
My wife and I had a last minute dinner reservation here for Valentine's Day. The greeters were very nice and even gave my wide a red rose in honor or the holiday. We were seated promptly. The food was delicious and Iris our server was beyond kind and attentive. We will return purely out of her exceptional service.
I used to look forward to interesting & creative meals at Terrace Cafe, but the menu has drastically changed since I last ate there and the fare is much simpler. It's very good but just not that special anymore. There are many breakfast items now available all day and overall prices seemed to be lower, both good things. My egg white vegetable omelet was excellent and my friend enjoyed her burger and fires, but I was expecting a more "foodie" experience.
We went during dinner, not knowing that this is traditionally a brunch / breakfast hot spot. The food was absolutely delicious. Across the group, we ordered a mix of dinner entrees, salads, and breakfast items, and everything was delicious. Would recommend!
(Full review on Yelp, limited in text here). We went for dinner mid-week. It was my first time here, and I found the ambiance cold (literally & figuratively). Waiter and manager were both very friendly. We were pleased to see they now offer breakfast all day long (always a plus when it's fresh and tasty). However, we were sad to see their dinner & lunch menu seemed a bit watered down. This is clearly a great place for breakfast, brunch & lunch - dinner, not so much. I'm told they used to have a delicious pork chop entree - but it's completely gone from the menu and the kitchen (we asked). I ordered the soup of the day (basil tomato) which was great! I got the chicken salad with a "large scoop" of the chicken salad on top. Not a big scoop.
Thought we'd heard about this as a great breakfast place we decided to try it out for dinner. The Fish and Chips was nice variation on the original(which I've had in England). The batter was quite thick but thoroughly cooked and seasoned delicately to ADD to the flavor of the fish not hide it. My only complaint was there were too many chips(French fries) but they were hot and lightly salted. Neither the fish nor the fries were dripping in oil like another local place, which serves them in baskets to let the oil drip onto the plate! Blah! The fillet was very large- at least a half pound- moist and tender. For dessert we split the Lemon Chiffon Cake. Very soft, light and lemony. A great finish to the fish and chips.
Food was a hit with our group of seven. Lighting was harsh (too bright). Waitstaff was excellent. A breakfast-y smell upon walking in was a little off-putting. Fantastic food!
If you like dining at a very quiet restaurant this is the place. Was there at 6 p.m. on a Wednesday and we were the only diners in the place until about 6:30 when one other couple arrived and then about 6:45 a family with children came in.
The food was very good. I have been at the Terrace Cafe for breakfast when a seat is a half hour wait sometimes.
They have a decent wine list and a full service bar.
Great food, good options for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Some good healthy choices. Very accommodating to specific needs.
Enjoyed our dinner there.
Made reservations and arrived to find that there were no tables available. They opened up the upstairs for our family to get us seated and made sure that we were taken care of. That level of service is outstanding! I was worried that we would be forgotten since we were the only ones upstairs, but two waiters made sure that everything went smoothly. The food and service were great and the kids loved having the balcony to ourselves for dinner.
Four girlfriends spent a very pleasant evening at Terrace Café. This is a casual , fairly priced restaurant in the Piedmont Row area. It was not busy and the service was quick. The wine list is small, so it led me to believe that this is mainly a breakfast /lunch type of place. Everyone enjoyed their food, especially the side cobb salad with little onion rings on it.
We recently ate here for a quick meeting and loved the experience. The restaurant wasn't too crowded on a Wednesday night around 6pm and we got fantastic service and some of the best food we could. We all had breakfast for dinner - chicken and waffles (superb), omelet (great), shrimp and grits (terrific), and some kid's animal shaped pancakes. All were delicious. We also had the chocolate cake for dessert and it was phenomenal. Limited beer selection, but all local stuff - which was nice. Strongly recommended.
Great food great service
I much prefer the location in Ballantyne than South Park. Ballantyne's location is larger, they stay open later, the food is better and they have more options on the menu
