I reserved dinner here for my anniversary dinner for 8pm. They called me at 7:55 to inform me that the restaurant was closing early and they recommended I go to another location.
Food was good but service was slow even though we were one of only two tables.
We treated our 95 year old cousin to lunch Good food, good service, but a little on the modern side, and the acoustics aren’t great.
Very good dining experience. The food was good and moderately priced.
My husband and I took my elderly mother and aunt to a play and out to dinner. I looked for a restaurant near to Southminster Retirement Center, in order to get my aunt home conveniently afterward. I chose Stewart Pinnick’s Terrace based on the location and the great reviews. We arrived early, but since we were the only customers, the hostess told us to “sit anywhere”. The first thing I noticed was several pieces of trash on the carpet in the dining room. If that’s the state of the dining room, how clean can the kitchen be, which is behind closed doors? The tabletops were scratched and shabby; the decor was dated. Our server took our drink order soon enough, but my husband’s beer arrived barely cool. When she came back, he asked her to take that one and bring him a cold beer. She said she would put a bottle on ice. I kept getting the idea they weren’t expecting customers to actually show up. The fried green tomatoes were hot and fresh, but served on wilted lettuce. My mother’s fried chicken meal was enough food to serve 3 of us. Most of it was boxed to go. I ordered shrimp and grits, which arrived barely warm. The 3 pieces of whole fried okra on top looked and tasted as though it was fried last night and reheated. Unacceptable! After a few bites, that meal was boxed to go. My husband’s gnocchi was overcooked (ditto the mushrooms) and the dish was heavy with too much cream sauce. He left half of it. I wish I could say something nice about the place, but this was just awful. By the way, when we left around 7, there were only 2 other couples in the whole restaurant, on a Saturday night. Perhaps the word is already out?
My sister and I wanted to go out for a nice dinner. She was craving Sea Bass and the online menu showed they had it. After arriving at the restaurant and see it was empty we were skeptical, but were willing to give it a try. We ordered the wild mushroom crustini as an app. Our app came out at the same time as our food and the appetizer plates were dirty. There were hardly any mushrooms and I am pretty sure they were button not wild. I ordered a salad with chicken added and the chicken was cold and dry. They actually didn’t have sea bass when we got there so my sister changed it up completely and went for the fried chicken. Her chicken too was dry. Overall we found to be cheap diner quality with poor service. Also the bathroom was in dire need of attention. There seem to be no pride in what they do at this restaurant. Plenty of staff with only 4 tables there but overall lacking.
Nice little restaurant. Food was very good. Service was a little miss, but the manager would check on us periodically which made up for the difference. Bartender made me a special key lime martinee, which I don't think they regularly make. It was quite yummy, just missed the graham cracker crust.
I had the smothered chicken breast in gorgonzola cheese sauce over mashed potatoes and it was delicious. I did subsitute my veggie out for their brussel sprouts, which were very good, as well.
Son had the twisted burger which was a little undercooked for me, but he said it was good and juicy. It came with fries, he just doesn't eat fries. Should have switched those out. I had a few, and they were hot, crispy & yummy.
Husband had some fish dish, I just can't remember exactly what it was. He cleaned the plate.
And let's not forget the chocolate brownie. What a brownie. Large for 3 people, served with vanilla ice cream. So good.
We were stopping in Charlotte on a road trip, and picked this place based on the good reviews. The food and service were very good, but there was hardly anyone there on a Saturday night for dinner. The ambiance was not what we were expecting, more casual than we were looking for, but overall a good experience.
Our server was excellent. The usual breakfast quiche was unavailable. A different quiche combo substituting turkey was offered & ordered. It was just okay, not special at all. The tomato basil soup tasted like it had just been stirred up with water, very thin, not simmered to become creamy before serving. The hashed browns were excellent. The other 3 plates were served fresh, hot & delicious and all 4 plates were served simultaneously. We were seated upstairs. The room temperature was hot & stuffy. A large group of 8 or more was seated next to us. They were not loud. However, from time to time, they seemed to be singing at the table.
We loved the food and the manager was so nice. It is a nice place to go for a dinner date.
My first time was amazing there was no wait I tried the red velvet waffles and fried chicken and it was beyond delicious service was quick and my server was extremely Nice I can’t wait to go back definitely my new go to spot I would recommend this restaurant to everyone
Great dinner and service
We when her on a Saturday night for dinner and both ordered the "Bourbon Braised Beef Short Rib" bottle of wine. Now the wine we wanted they did not have so we got our second choice, they did discount the price since they didn't have what was on the menu. Now when the Beef Short Rib dishes arrived on of them the meat was over half fat. I did say something to the manager and he offered a cake to us, so we accepted that. However, when the bill came we were charged for the cake. We will not be going back here.
The person waiting on was good so I did leave a tip, it was not her fault.
The food and service were awesome. My husband said that this was some of the best shrimp and grits he had had in a while. The only complaint is that it was hard to find. The name "Stewart Penick's" is not on any of the signs that can be seen from the street. Also, the specials listed on Open Table were different that what was actually available. Definitely a good place to dine near shopping, that is not a normal chain restuarant or in a food court.
First comment would be the name (Stewart Penick's) is not outside...it's just Terrace so we drove, called the restaurant several times with no one picking up, so the name is a bit misleading. We were seated, the waitress brought us menu's, and water. We were looking at the menu trying to decide what to order - we asked for straws for the 2 of us, she brought us 8 and left them on the table. She then brought over bread (no plates) after trying the bread which was dry and not good....so we decided to leave. It was Saturday night and only 4 other folks were downstairs. Date night is important to us -but more so is service. Clearly the service is not there - so we left and went to another restaurant where the service was outstanding and worth the $150 we spent. My advice would be update your chairs, train your servers better-we won't be back anytime soon and we won't be recommending it to our friends unfortunately.
Just awful. Would not go back.
It was average.
Would not recommend for dinner, although the food was fine and the menu had a good selection of choices. Restaurant setup is odd, tables are well below the windows so the feel is that of sitting in a basement. Very few people were dining but the service was very slow. Would try it for breakfast as one of the waitresses said that is what they are known for and when they see more of a crowd.
Terrible dinner service. We had a 35 minute wait for entree that came wrong. The didn’t have two items that we ordered and didn’t even tell us. They just gave us what was available. We left and only ate the appetizer. Totally disappointed. They were totally unprepared and we were the only one there in a empty restaurant .
THE LESS THAN GREAT REVIEW WAS BECAUSE WHEN WE ARRIVED THE "HOSTESS" HAD TO BE TOLD TO SEAT US AND ANOTHER COUPLE WHILE SHE WAS SITTING AT THE BAR WITH ANOTHER
EMPLOYEE. THE FOOD WAS NOTHING SPECTACULAR BUT GOOD
AS THEY SAY FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE EVEYTHING
Really loved the food, the only reason I have service 4 stars was because they seemed a little disorganized. We had to ask for things that should’ve been obvious like silverware and the rest of the side plates we ordered. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this place for any occasion! The food was killer!
We had dinner around 7:00 and we were the only people in the entire restaurant with the exception of 2 other tables that came in as we were leaving. Two other restaurants in the vicinity that we tried to get into were fully booked. This makes me think that dinner is not their strong point. the Terrace used to have a much more gourmet look/feel to the menu which was much more appealing, but now it's jam packed with selections. Is it really possible for a small restaurant to prepare that many items successfully? My broccoli cheese soup was homemade but very thin. My husband's entree was covered with vegetables that was not part of the description on the menu. I think it might be a better breakfast location. We won't be back for dinner.
Great food and great service!
Our waitress Lauren was fantastic!
Food was below average
Lovely restaurant! Nice location, the food is great, service is amazing. I've been here twice and I've never had any bad experience. The only thing I can say I disliked was the noise but hey, if there's a lot of people it has to be a good restaurant right? ;)
The restaurant was closed when we arrived. No notification. Fortunately many restaurants close by to eat.
Known for their breakfast- decided to check it out for dinner! It was dead quiet. Couldn’t decide why they even open at nite. Food was ok-won’t return for dinner. Breakfast/ lunch / brunch- yes
We ate here at 6:30 on a Saturday night. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant, and by the time we left around 8pm there was not another customer to be found. It was a little off-putting to be so deserted. And considering we were virtually the only people in there I was surprised by how slow/inattentive the service was. All that said, the food was delicious and well-prepared. I just hope they can get enough customers to come so they can continue serving dinner!
Mathew is the best ! The service is top notch. I really enjoyed the red velvet waffles.
This was my first visit. I was a bit disappointed because I choose the resturants for me my husband and another couple. We were going to an event near by so I thought this would be a great place to dine. We arrived shortly after 4pm on 8/25/17 there was a pile of trash by the hostes stand we had to step over this to get to the dinning area. Three of us ordered chicken and waffles the waffles were great .we we all felt that the chicken was really dry. My husband ordered the terrace chicken and he said it was good. I was more disappointed because I invited another couple thinking I Made A good choice.
Waitress was horrible. Has to wait 5 minutes just for her to come take out drink order
The reservation was held and they had the table for 2 setup and offered us a larger table by the window - very nice. The food was delicious although the service was sparse; our appetizers were not taken away, I had to ask for extra water, and we didn't have bread plates on the table when the bread was delivered which we didn't realize until after the fact and while waiting for the waitress for a few minutes we just grabbed plates from another table. Over the 45-60 minutes we were there the waitress came by 3 times: here's your table, here's your apps, here's your meal. We had to flag her down for the water and the bill. She was friendly but not attentive.
Excellent mushroom appetizer and roasted beet salad Tasty pork tenderlion but potato pancakes were 50/50. They were crispy great on the edges but way to soggy in the middle
Visited Terrace Café for the first time yesterday. Overall was very pleased with the atmosphere, diverse menu and friendly service. I had the pork BBQ sandwich w/onion rings, and it was very tasty. May try a different sauce next time. The desserts looked tempting as well. There's truly something for everyone here.
Very disappointed. Order was incorrect. What I received had a very well prepared piece of salmon, but not a Cobb salad that I ordered. Menu had
Our server was very pleasant and attentive.
The food was delicious!!!!! The only downfall is the long wait to get in for brunch on a Saturday or Sunday
Great Brunch!!! Restaurant was recommended as a "must" since moving to Charlotte a few weeks ago and it did not disappoint!
We had a poor experience. It was Valentines. They were understaffed. Our waitress had 13 tables and she was nice but harried. Our First courses of soup and salad took 30 minutes to come out. The soup was cold. Dinner came out before we finished first course and it was only luke warm. It tasted ok except for the temperature of the food. I have had lunches there that were good, so this was a disappointment.
Our waitress, Iris, was welcoming and attentive. Chicken and waffles were terrific. Was our first visit. Will definitely go back.
