We used to come to this place almost every weekend. The service got so bad we stopped. We had dinner the other night to see if things had changed. Not much of a difference. I understand that employees talk to each other, but the continuous noise and "Yucking it Up" back by the kitchen got old!
The food was pretty good, but nothing I saw would convince me to suggest this place to a friend.
This restaurant IMO is very good and crowded for breakfast and brunch, not a dinner place. We made reservation for 8PM and I believe there were eight other individuals in the restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly. The crap bisque was served very hot and was good. The entrees were along the line of other restaurants of this fashion. The four of us had entrees ranging from beef, to chicken, to Italian, with one entrée salad.
We have been for brunch but never dinner. Had the crab bisque although it tasted like clam chowder. Sea bass with risotto was good except I had multiple bones in my sea bass and risotto was under cooked. Also ordered the fillet tenderloin with parmesan and horseradish crust except that came on the side instead of crusted on top. It was tasty but not as good as we hoped. To make it a little awkward, we decided to share dessert but they split the dessert on two plates. Although I appreciate the gesture, it was a bit inappropriate as other couples didn't have their dessert split on two plates. Service was a bit slow towards the end of our meal and we wait for about 20 minutes to get the check. Overall we will come back for brunch but will probably skip dinner here.
This was my second visit and the food was excellent, just as before. Our server was knowledgeable of the menu and was able to recommend the smothered chicken to my friend who was visiting for the first time. She loved it so much that she ordered a second meal to take home to her husband to try. The experience was excellent all around!
This was our second visit. We loved it so much the first time, we knew we had to go back and they were just as great as the first time. The food is delicious and sitting outside with the beautiful spring weather is wonderful. Service is always wonderful too.
Service was very slow. I am not sure if they did not have enough help. Never was offered refills on soft drinks or water. Never brought out our appetizer but no issues in getting it taken off the bills. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable but didn't come around often. The food was very good. Not sure if it was a bad night or not enough help.
We have been many times and brought two couples with us - it was not a very good experience. One of the woman ordered a drink and everyone else's came timely. Hers came late and not as she had ordered it. Finally after another wait her drink arrived correctly. .
One of the men ordered a meal and when all the other meals were delivered he was then told that the restaurant was out of that entree. The waiter tried to make it right but overall the experience was less than expected.
We have been to this restaurant several times over the years but lately things have changed with the new management. The service was slow and when we got our entrees, one of the sides was not right. When it was corrected, it was still not up to par. The restaurant was not busy either from what we could tell. There was a new menu but it looked the same except on a black background which made it hard to read and some prices had gone up. We hope things will improve here.
Visited while in town for a wedding and had a good time. It was fairly quiet for a Friday evening dinner for two on the patio, but we people-watched. The crab soup was perfect and there were many dietary-accommodations and options on the menu for people with food restrictions, allergies & preferences. My smothered chicken was delicious, and the chef graciously made me extra sauce upon request. My fiancé's burger was cooked to his liking.
Overall the experience was lukewarm. Several questions to the waitstaff were met with "I dont know", "I don't eat that" and several other responses that were not helpful, including one that we never received an answer to. The items we ordered we fair, scallops were over cooked and covered in a heavy sauce that over powered the scallops. I think there is potential there just not quite yet.
We have always loved Terrace Cafe for breakfast and brunch and have never been disappointed! However, last weekend we decided to try them for dinner and it was absolutely terrible. My chicken entree had NO chicken meat on the dish. Literally bones covered in skin & sauce. The plate was loaded with roasted potatoes that tasted like the juice of black olives had literally been poured over them. My husband had the steak and he said it was inedible. Now I understand why it was so dead on a busy Saturday night. We will not ever return for dinner!

We went on an early Thursday evening expecting a nice evening. It was apparent the serving staff was stretched. Following our meal -- pretty good food -- we agreed the service was among the worst we have ever experienced.
After our meals were delivered we were never asked about refills on drinks until the plates were being cleared, sarcastically we said it would have been nice 15 minutes earlier. We asked about desserts and a the waiter pointed to a printed list on the table. Later, other patrons were brought a tray showing the selection of desserts. Guess he was offended we were critical about his lack of attention.
I reached out to the restaurant four times over two weeks expressing our concerns and to date, no one has responded.
Food was good, service was awful. Doubt we will ever go back.
Obviously the management doesn't' care what we thought.
We stopped for dinner at the Terrace Cafe immediately after watching an afternoon matinee at Regal Cinemas two floors above the restaurant. It was at 6:23 PM on a Tuesday and there were only a few customers in the establishment when we arrived. The decor of the restaurant is very appealing. We were promptly greeted by the hostess and were escorted to a booth. My friend's wife and mine both ordered the bourbon glazed salmon. My friend ordered shrimp and grits, while I opted for the fillet mignonette and scallops (daily special). We did not choose to have cocktails, nor did anyone order dessert. Our dinners were served hot in a matter of ten minutes. The service at The Terrace Cafe was excellent. The food was delicious, but we had been to this restaurant previously and were not surprised by the wonderful food and the relaxing atmosphere. If you have occasion to be in the Charlotte area, I strongly recommend either of the two Terrace Cafe locations for a great dinner. Incidentally, they are also open for breakfast and lunch and do an equally superb job with both. One of my top 5 favorite restaurants in the Charlotte area. If you plan to have breakfast, lunch or dinner there on the weekend, it would be wise to make a reservation unless you don't mind waiting for a table. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and I'm certain you will, too.
Valentine's Day - was t particularly busy. We had the pre fix menu, starter was great (calamari off the usual menu). Main was crab cake with "filet" and veg medley. Crab cake was great, I say "filet" because imagine you had a 5oz actual filet and cut a piece that was 2cm thick then overlooked it. That's what you got and veg medley l, well, I had about the amount of veg you could fit on a soup spoon, this was $20!!! Shocking really I expected a lot more from this restaurant. I'm still hungry!
We both had the delicious surf and turf dinner for less than $20. The service was just right, and food was very good overall. We had the crab soup first. It was very tasty, but we only found about 1/5 of a spoonful of actual crab in it unfortunately. The only real negative was that we didn't care for the little (dry/stale) biscuits before dinner. Bread or rolls would have been much better choices. It was a special occasion, moms birthday celebration, and even though I mentioned that when I made the reservations, it was never really acknowledged at all, which I thought was odd. But, all in all, we were very satisfied with our dining experience at this restaurant. (This was our first visit). I am sure we will return again.
