The place was CLOSED - my reservation was accepted and got several reminders, no articles or notes anywhere online, but when we arrived the entire restaurant was closed. No signs on the doors for explanation, no one answered the phone or had a message with explanation.
I made reservations ahead of time, got the confirmation email, drove 45 minutes to the restaurant only to find a paper sign on the door saying they were closed. Then my wife, my infant son, and I had to wait on a busy Friday night to dine at another restaurant in the area.
We were so impressed with the food. The fried oysters appetizer was incredible. The Shrimp and grits was the best I've had in Charlotte.
This was my birthday dinner. I was disappointed with the atmosphere. There was absolutely no one else in the restaurant. The menu was different that the one we received from the hotel we were staying in. The need new marketing material. The portions were extremely small but the chicken and waffles were great.
We are true southerners and usually aren't impressed with southern cuisine restaurants. Stewart Penick's Terrace Cafe serves exceptionally good food! Our steaks were so tender that we didn't need steak knives. We will visit again and take friends.
Had the she crab soup. It was amazing! Our other entree was the bourbon salmon sever with steamed fresh vegetables. No room for dessert.
Very very food. I ordered the salmon salad and it was delicious. Great experience.
Had very few bourbon selections. Waiter didn't know their menu. Wine with dinner had cork in the glass. The food was very good, but not in compared to the cost.
The food and service is very good. I highly recommend the Borboun Salmon and Crab Bisque soup. The Surf and Turf is an awesome deal and the fried oysters were exceptional
Service: Upon ordering, our server informed us she was new when we asked how the mac & cheese side was. Okay, no problem. What I struggled with was her complete lack of common sense throughout. This was not a teenager. She didn't think to ask if my husband would like his salad before dinner, so it never came until we asked, a good 15 min later. When she got two steps from our table w/our dinners, she just turned around and left, saying nothing. Ten minutes later, I happened to catch her to ask if that was our food she just returned. She said they put the wrong cheese on my Philly steak sandwich (I'm not a fan of pimento & subbed it for Swiss) and that our meals would be out soon. Soon is a relative term. In a very (very) lightly filled dining room, we waited almost 45 minutes for our dinner. Not once during that time did she ever stop by to explain or apologize. Not once.
Food: My husband's braised beef over mushroom risotto was excellent - though certainly not a dinner portion, esp for $25; no sides were included - unless you call onion straws over the meat as a side. We're guessing there might have been 4 oz of beef. It was a VERY petite dinner portion of both beef and the risotto. Good thing he ordered that salad (which was extra). The beef on my Philly sandwich was also exceptional and a generous amt of beef was used on that entree - unfortunately the bread was soaked in butter (not brushed - soaked) before it hit the flat-top, making the whole thing overly greasy; I removed the green peppers after my first bite because they were bitter.
Pricing: Our bill was $50 and we'd only had water w/our meal. That was decidedly not a $50 dinner. And, honestly, if the kitchen (or the server who entered the order) made a mistake that subsequently created a 45 min wait in a very uncrowded restaurant, wouldn't you expect someone (?) to comp a small portion of the meal - or offer us a dessert - or something? We won't be back.
My family and I have dined here several times. The food has usually been pretty good. Tonight, my husband took myself and our daughter there for Valentine’s. My daughter ordered the sirloin medium and I ordered the filet medallions also medium. Both our dinners came and hers was well done and mine was too. I told the waitress about my daughter’s, and she took it back to the kitchen. I didn’t mention mine wasn’t cooked the way l like it, I didn’t want to wait for them to prepare mine as well. She brings back another sirloin and it was well done too. She offered to take it back but my daughter just asked for some steak sauce. My daughter ate a little less than half and said it wasn’t very good. I tried it and it was most definitely sour or spoiled. My husband rolled his eyes at me because he was extremely tired after a very long day at work and wasn’t pleased with the steak experience and definitely wasn’t happy when I said it was spoiled and to taste it. ‘Cause that’s what we do when we say something doesn’t taste good, we stab it with a fork and put it up to our love ones mouth and say, YOU taste it! He did and recoiled and proclaim it was bad indeed. We did not verbally tell our waitress because it wasn’t her fault, and we felt bad. I did leave a note under the plate saying it was spoiled. When we got our bill, she had comp it significantly. We will go back, but no steak for us.
Unfortunately didn’t measure up to previous experience. Waiter was unable to get orders straight - one order completely wrong and others didn’t have correct sides, requiring visits from what appeared to be a supervisor. This was our server’s first night and he should have had more support. No offers to comp part of checks or follow up from manager on obvious foul-ups. Restaurant was about 25% occupied at 7 pm on Friday night. Checks were mixed up too. Food was ok. Possibly management has changed. We have been customers for almost 5 years but not likely to return.
First trip to the Terrace -- menu had plenty of variety. Our entrees were pork roast and strip steak -- both meals were excellent. Service was also excellent -- informative, attentive but not hovering. Wine selection was a bit limited (only criticism I can muster).
It was a very poor poor experience. The drinks, food and service was below par. So Disappointing/ your hostess was professional though and did try to explain your circumstances tonight. We felt bad for the waiter he was either overwhelmed or shouldn’t be in the industry. Nice young man But we wasted $100.00. / not sure if we will return.
Our server (Nathan I believe) was friendly and helpful.
The food was excellent as always. The service has always been hit or miss. More of a miss on this visit. Apparently the management has changed since our last visit and things have gotten skimpy.
I checked out the menu via Open Table as I was getting ready to make a reservation. I was SO excited about a few of the things on the menu and was really looking forward to trying the place out. Sadly, the menu posted on Open table was NOT the current menu and the 4 things I wanted to try were not available. SUPER disappointing.
The Crab Bisque was terrific as well as the Fried Oysters. Super crunchy and the dipping sauce was wonderful. The Pimento Cheese Plate was really good but the kitchen was very heavy handed on the maple syrup.
As for dinner, my husband had the Shrimp & Grits. It was not that good and it only had 4 shrimp in the dish. I had the Cornmeal Crusted Scallops with Sweet Corn Risotto. The risotto was very good, the green beans were almost raw and the scallops were uneventful.
I will consider trying The Terrace Cafe again but for breakfast or brunch. Dinner is not their strength.
My crab bisque was more like cream of celery, no crab. The pecan apple salad had no pecans and about 1000 cranberries. It was a small salad and charged me the big salad price. I was really disappointed and prob will not go back.
in General the evening was good, food was good nothing special, limited wine list since stock was depleted. Service was good, had several reminders, rest rooms weren't the best.
Only good thing I can say was the food was good. Both our orders were wrong. Got appetizer same time as dinner and waitress just smirked. She never came back and asked how everything was. Sent email and they never responded
Great menu, food and service. Will definitely go back.
Service was not good. The server didn’t want to be bothered with anything. She asked the table behind us if they would pay their check so she could leave. Asked for an IPA got a coors light really.
Very disappointing !
It took 20 min to get our drinks and then 10 min to take our order. My wife ordered a side salad and entree and I ordered the Salmon Salad.
After 15 min, I asked about the status of our meal and she said she would check. I confirmed with her that we wanted the salad before our entree and she agreed.
We waited another 10 min and she arrived with the side salad. Since she said that she had planned to pass in our entree orders after we got the side salad, we told her to just cancel everything and we would pay for the drink (we were never asked if we wanted another) and the salad and go. She said ok, left and brought back my entree and not my wife’s and said she was sorry and gave us the bill minus my wife’s order.
I cannot see us returning for another meal.
Absolutely awesome! Food was fantastic. I had the Bourbon Braised Short Rib cooked perfectly. My wife had the Filet Medallions that melted in your mouth. One of our favorite places.
Very good all around, great for dinner with friends, much quieter environment to talk and eat.
What a wonderful surprise. Not sure why we did not try this place earlier. We had dinner here. Highly recommend.
Dodd was very good. Staff was friendly and atmosphere was very nice. Will go back again.
Filet medallions were great stuffed flounder was on the spicy side but good, service was great!
Food and service was great! Great location and perfect for a low key dinner.
The food was terrible. There was no crab meat or shrimp in my stuffed prawns; just breadcrumbs. And everything was saturated in butter. Awful. Not sure how this place is still in business.
Food was delicious..waitstaff was excellent
We thoroughly enjoyed the meal
A bit disappointed in our experience. I reserved a table online stating it was a special occasion, a birthday. We got there and there was no recognition of the event. We were seated far away with an elderly lady who clearly was having difficulty walking. We had to ask to be seated closer. We were accommodated at that time. Our waitress was not particularly friendly, even when we complimented her on her jewelry, etc. She never got warm or friendly. She acted like she did not approve of us being there. My mom (the birthday girl) started to say the blessing when our food came and we were interrupted by a waiter filling our water glasses. One of my children had asked for her salad with a few modifications and they were not done. It was cold and it was noisy and in general, just not a great experience. Despite our family singing to our mom and mentioning it was her birthday, it was not acknowledged at all by the staff. Very disappointing. Food was ok, but just ok. Of note, the cheesy mashed potatoes were so cheesy they were no longer creamy potatoes and the bacon braised cabbage was more like cabbage with mostly raw bacon. It would have been so much better with crispier bacon. Not sure we will rush back anytime soon. Disappointing event/evening.
Food was good. I had the Shrimp & Grits. Different twist with full fried okra. Very tasty. My wife had Smothered Chicken. Both meals were great.
My pork tenderloin was delicious but both the potato cakes and sautéed vegetables were under done.
Went for dinner. Food was delicious. I had the pork chop and my wife had a Mediterranean salad.
Friday night dinner with the family. Great service and fantastic food. We will be back.
We used to come to this place almost every weekend. The service got so bad we stopped. We had dinner the other night to see if things had changed. Not much of a difference. I understand that employees talk to each other, but the continuous noise and "Yucking it Up" back by the kitchen got old!
The food was pretty good, but nothing I saw would convince me to suggest this place to a friend.
Yes! Good place to eat !
The food was OK. Both the mushroom brochette and oyster salad were very salty.
This restaurant IMO is very good and crowded for breakfast and brunch, not a dinner place. We made reservation for 8PM and I believe there were eight other individuals in the restaurant. Service was prompt and friendly. The crap bisque was served very hot and was good. The entrees were along the line of other restaurants of this fashion. The four of us had entrees ranging from beef, to chicken, to Italian, with one entrée salad.
