Took my son to Terra and Vine while up visiting him at Northwestern. Our meal was excellent! We started with calamari and salads. I had the short ribs. They were amazing. My son had chicken Marsala which he said was also great. I highly recommend Terra and Vine if you are looking for great food in Evanston.
We had a great lunch! Looking forward to coming back for dinner soon
Staff was outstanding. Our server was busy with a few tables but still stopped to do a meet and greet and let us know she’d be right with us. Took our drink order right a way and was back for our appetizer and entree order. She was great. The food was outstanding and among the best dishes my wife and I have ever eaten. She had the Chicken Marsala special, and I had the Rigatoni. Can’t wait to have a good excuse to go to Evanston and eat there again.
Excellent food and service.
Having made a reservation, we were seated promptly. A group of 5 ahead of us was turned away, not having made a reservation.
We were a party of 4. We ordered the cauliflower entrée as an appetizer. While we all enjoyed the food, I think the cauliflower dish, while very tasty, would not serve as an entrée and was overpriced.
On the whole, it was an enjoyable experience and I would return.
We lived it. The food and service were outstanding
The food was excellent, nice size portions, just the right amount, seasonal vegetables, attentive service, no rushing people out (the restaurant was barely ½ full), overall a satisfying experience. The only downside: the excessive, repetitious, monotonous "music": THUMP-thump-thump, THUMP-thump-thump, THUMP-thump-thump during the entire 2 ½ hours we were there. There were 2 of us, maybe a large group wouldn't notice it, but we sure did. Please, 1) turn it down, and 2) have nicer music, say mellow classical jazz.
Loved everything about this place and will be returning time and time again.
Always a relaxed time, great drinks, tasty food, and next to the theater!
Bartender was wonderful!
Nice happy hour options as well!
Good mix of classic and contemporary Italian food with a modern twist. Great cocktails and Alpanna’s recommended wines were perfect. Desserts were huge and very tasty.
We ate here before a movie. We ordered 3 appetizers. They all came at the same time, even though one was cold and the other 2 were hot. The antipasto plate was a mishmash of whatever they must have had on hand. 3 different cheeses that did not make sense together, 3 big pieces of parmigiano, seriously more of a condiment cheese than an eating cheese, really strong gorgonzola and a cheese that I think was burrata, the waiter asked the kitchen and was told it was ricotta (It did not look like or taste like ricotta). No one we asked knew what the honey was for...it did not taste good on the cheeses or the proscuitto and salami. The pizza had too much cheese on it and was very bland. we added red pepper flakes. The octopus dish had very little octopus and a lot of potatoes. This was probably the best of the apps we ordered, but again not enough octopus to put the word octopus in the menu description.
Our server was hands down one of the best servers we have ever had...so personable, attentive! We’d go back just for her!
This is my favorite place in Evanston for a business lunch and personal dinner. Great menu, very attentive service and good ambiance.
The menu was fairly accommodating but the food was just off. The seafood special was good as well as the bolognese and poached pear salad. The salmon was way too dry, the eggplant appetizer was bad the calamari was rubbery and the pizza appetizer left a lot to be desired.
It’s quite noisy and the food is overpriced
The menu looks good but the execution of the dishes is mediocre at best
Have visited the restaurant 2 times in 2 years and each time have had hands down the worst service.
Excellent in every way. Wine was just great and liked the 2 sizes (4 or 6 oz.). Food was delicious. Hard to make a choice .. so may wonderful options. Highly recommend.
Excessively salty. The manager was clueless about the complaints regarding saltiness. Finally, the waitress had to apologize for him! Alpena needs to take control before this place crashes.
Terra and Vine is Alpina Sing's restaurant. She's a famous somalier and host of the PBS show Check Please. She's taken over the former Wolfgang Puck's in downtown Evanston IL. The building also hosts a multi-plex cinema and is across from public parking so it's an obvious choice for pre-post movie as well as leisure dining or date night. The decor is low key and the kitchen open. There's seasonal al fresco or inside with air conditioning.
A varied menu of appetizers, salads, main courses and a selection of pastas are on offer along with daily specials. There is a large wine list and full bar. As soon as you 're seated someone will bring you a bottle of cold water and a basket of warm bread and herbed butter.
I opted for a Mediterranian Salad and my friend had the Roasted Cauliflower. Both were generous portions, fresh and perfectly seasoned. The roast cauliflower had a large dollop of pesto sauce and other roast veg along with it. We did not to have dessert as we had theater tickets but in the past I have tried several desserts and found them delightful.
On previous occasions we've had the calimari (which was perfect! Not too well done, light crispy batter and delicate flavor) and the wonderful mussels in white wine with shallots.
I would've given this restaurant 5 stars but for the slow service. We told the host when we arrived we had theater tickets, but it took our waitperson a full 15 minutes to take our drink order. Had she been quicker we may have ordered an appetizer or dessert (We have both had long careers in the service industry and are generous both with patience and gratuities but the curtain waits for no one!) Then we waited for the salad etc. Our drinks came after the food was served, I had a lovely Cote de Rhone Blanc, could've been two if it'd come before the meal.
I was surprised, given the good prices, large, tasty portions that the place was half empty at 7 PM on a Saturday night, could it be the service?
Every Friday is special. Terra and Vine delivers a fish special that is always delicious. The suggested wine selections from Alpana Singh never disappoints. A must for everyday dining and getting together with friends.
We’ve been 3 times. First time great. Second time, pretty good. This time a little disappointing. Sat nite, 7:30pm. Not many people there. Ordered the octopus app. Tasted fishy. Pasta and cauliflower good. I think more options on the menu needed. Where’s the crowd? Outdoor dining was great but odd table. Waitperson was a low talker. A problem at a lively restaurant. Hope things change. I hate to see places fail. Not sure if we will venture back.
Food is always great. Menu changes so you can always try something new. Waitstaff is very attentive and accommodating.
food was delicious: service was great; good wine selection
Smells like buttered popcorn
Great staff that accommodated my ordering mistake. I’m vegan and sandwich had cheese. So nice to remake. I just asked for new bread.
Our waiter was very good...but we waited 45 minutes to an hour for our food.
The Kitchen was very slow and it wasn't very crowded.
We enjoyed our dinner very much. Tatiana our waitress was terrific, and really knew a lot about the wine list. The food was great, and the outdoor patio is perfect on a beautiful summer night.
The waitress stood behind us everyone she came to talk to us
The tables around us were so noisy and crass
The food was mediocre at best. The cheese plate appetizer seemed like it came out of a grocery store refrigerator section, complete with Heinz mustard?
And my meal was pretty good- pasta pescatore
My partners meal was like a lean cuisine meal. All salt no flavor- it was the creamy linguine dish.
My friend and I had a lovely lunch on their outdoor patio. It was my first time at Terra & Vine. The wines by the glass were delicious. The brussels sprouts crostini and wild mushroom arancini were to die for . . . and a very generous serving. Best brussels sprouts dish I've ever had! I will definitely go back -- hopefully very soon!
T&V's menu at dinner is missing the mark with the Evanston pre or post movie and family clientele. The pizzas are too fancy. There is no Caesar salad. The pasta was bland and in dire need of salt and extra Parmesan cheese. Why no burger, even a $20 fancy burger? We have tried it multiple times because of the convenience, but we always leave disappointed. Brunch is a different story! They serve one of the best ones around! We will need to see more matinees!
The service is great. The food was ok- the arancini I ordered were great, but my salmon was something I could have easily made at home.
We had a great experience! We visited for a late lunch and the food was delicious, reasonably priced and the service was great. The noise level was quiet, since we were seated outside and we were the only party seated outdoors. We were introduced to Alpana Singh and she's lovely. Very attentive. Definitely recommended :)
We love this restaurant. The food is consistently delicious and the vast wine list has plenty of affordable options to choose from. If you can't decide, ask the staff. They are very helpful in finding the perfect glass or bottle for your group. If you're lucky, Alpana will stop by to make sure you're enjoying your wine. Try the arancini to start...it will make you want to order a second round. Always say yes to the dessert menu. To top it off, the open kitchen, ambiance and decor are so welcoming that you can't help but sit back and enjoy.
My husband and I were celebrating his birthday and decided to choose T & V, which luckily for us just down the street a few blocks. We've been there before on a few occasions and have been generally pleased with the experience. I had my favorite, the luscious beef shortribs, with mashed potatoes, a chianti sauce/gravy, and green beans done just right. It's a very hearty dish, and I had plenty to take home. My husband had the Branzino (?), which he liked but thought the flavor of the bean ragout was a little overpowering. The only thing that was less than pleasing was the dessert experience. We chose the flourless chocolate mousse cake with raspberry coulis and fresh raspberries. When it arrived -- no raspberry sauce, but instead a chocolate sauce drizzle beneath the cake. The waiter explained "they were out of the coulis." The cake was delicious, but the lack of the essential raspberry coulis should have been addressed ahead of time, or they should say that the item was unavailable. They did take the dessert off the bill, but we thought it was rather unprofessional to make an unannounced substitute. Dining on the patio requires patience for the noisy Metra stop right across the intersection but is otherwise very pleasant. We'll be back.
Service is great!
Cauliflower app is delicious, pasta is nice.
Cocktails and wine wonderful.
It's becoming a regular spot for us :)
Brought our friends from out of town. Everyone loved it!!
The pasta was merely warm and gray in color. Not very tasty. The wine was overpriced and was not served chilled. (It was a white.) Very disappointing.
Our dinner was fabulous. We had Mediterranean Salad and the short ribs. The ribs had no fat, no bone and melted in your mouth like butter. It was our first visit and we will be back.
We were a big group, 12 people, and our overall experience was great and the food was amazing!!
I had the salmon with pea puree and cauliflower. The salmon was good. I wasn't a fan of the sides.
