This was a first visit for me. I went during restaurant week and did order the dinner set menu. I loved the shiitake bao. Flavorful and meaty. It is hard to find bao so I loved it. My main course was salmon on a bed of seaweed with some citrus sauce. Another winner. Dessert was the mai tai creme bruelle. The custard was smooth and done right.
I’ll be returning.
Restaurant Week Special - Great Value! We have dined here before and the food was as delicious as ever. The service is exemplary!
Tuna tartare was good. Shrimp bao buns were too fried.. would be better if it were actual shrimps rather than shrimp patties. Ramen was a generous portion. Sushi was great but fairly pricey. Drink were very good. Parking was okay. Service was good.
Lovely staff. Delicious food in excellent portions. Finally went here for restaurant week after numerous recommendations and they did not disappoint. There weren't a lot of people there, likely due to the snow, but that made dinner a fairly quiet one. We could carry a conversation at a normal tone. Decor is amazing and welcoming. Would come back here again to try other items on the menu in a heartbeat.
at best, mediocre food. service ok not great. way overpriced given low quality of food.
Perfect spot in the Tysons area for a business lunch. Food was outstanding (potstickers - YES!) and the service was excellent.
Our service was exceptional. We were celebrating two birthdays, and a departure of a co-worker. And all 4 of us are not currently working due to the government shutdown. We had amazing service from the moment we sat down. Thanks for making us feel so welcome and helping to take our minds off the fact we aren't earning a paycheck. Kudos to Gerard!
I am not a fussy eater, and neither are my 6 friends who joined me for dinner, but we thought the menu was confusing and all over the place; all of us, who dine out frequently all over the DC metro area and all like Asian food, had trouble choosing both our appetizers and entrees based on the ingredients and preparation descriptions; our waiter was helpful in trying to describe the dishes, and accommodated my friend who had to send back the Thai papaya salad because it was way too hot and spicy, but we still did not know what to expect from our choices until they were served. Most diners want some creativity and surprises from a chef but this was too many and too varied.
Also the dessert selection was too limited and odd. I wanted a sorbet, gelato or ice cream to cleanse my palate after a spicy meal and ordered the Japanese ice cream dumplings that were like eating raw dough over something frozen without a satisfying flavor; two orders of the chocolate brownies went uneaten because of a strange-tasting ingredient.
The staff was professional and friendly and the ambiance pleasant and I work in Tysons Corner, but I would not return or recommend TenPenh to my co-workers or friends unless some menu adjustments were made by the chef to make it more diner appealing.
Ten Penh never disappoints. Good food, great atmosphere, a place for conversation.
We really enjoyed our experience on New Year's Eve. The restaurant was very accommodating to families with young children and our waitress was great with our young daughter. Overall the food was great, but some of the portion sizes were quite small (e.g. the shrimp with red curry sauce). While delicious, it was not a lot of food. I was a bit disappointed in the brussels sprouts, which were too salty. Overall, it was a great experience and I would go back.
Everything we had, from appetizer to dessert was great. Peking duck was amazing! Excellent service
Great meal & service all great. Only bummer was they were out of our favorite Sake!:(
Oh well. The lobster dish is always spectacular!!
The food and service is amazing. I came for a late lunch but stayed for the happy hour!
We come there very often. The food and ambiance is great but most of all your service is excellent specially your Manager Mr. Gerard is exceptional and takes great care of his guest. He is an asset to your group. Merry Christmas 🎄 Chitra
The bartender, Eric, was super nice. We did small plates off the happy hour menu, and the selection had nice variety. Dumplings were all tasty, and mu shu pork was fabulous. The happy hour prices are the best in the area!
Thought it was good not outstanding. Not in a rush to go back.
We started with Happy Hour and appetizers. The bar was great. Our bartender, Carlos, was friendly and attentive!
Food was fair. Much Too salty and greasier than expected. Service was very good. Ambience was nice.
Awesome food and great service. Gotta try that Pork BBQ with garlic friend rice!
Our waiter was very helpful in suggesting several food items on the menu, which contributed to having a nice meal.
Food was not great- oily, and slightly tasteless and bland.
As always terrific food at reasonable price
We used to love dining @ Ten Penh in Washington, D.C. It was fun to re-discover them @ Tysons Corner! Our waitress was very helpful as we navigated an entirely different menu. Missed the generous slabs of seared foie gras & aromatic soup served in a coconut shell. We ordered "anniversary sushi" & a rice crispy bowl, as well as wonderful sticky wings & a plate of very fresh sashimi. Gerald, a very nice & energetic manager, stopped by to welcome us. We joined the Ten Penh club & are interested in trying their other restaurants. This location is a bit confusing, as you wind your way down narrow streets. The presence of Metro has changed McLean & not for the better. We wish Jeff Tunks the very best in all of his creative endeavors.
Always delicious and great service
Consistent creative excellence. On this visit we thoroughly enjoyed the firecracker, among other tasty selections. The donuts are an absolute must for dessert!
Francesco is a tremendous ambassador.
Food exceeds expectations! Highly recommended.
Consistently good food. The Papaya Salad, lamb dumplings and the crispy flounders are great!
We had a wonderful time! Food and service were great. Hidden gem. We will be back for sure!
Went for Happy Hour with friends. The bar staff is extremely unfriendly and would not greet us....especially the big guy behind the bar. The bartenders are not willing to provide service even after it clears some at the bar and you have to get the manager's attention for help.......which we did! Food offering at HH is great, the cocktails were weak (not much alcohol) and service is poor. Hope the manager will read the comments to fix the problem!
In my opinion, Ten Penh is very average. Food is over seasoned. The sushi roll we ordered was good. Poke, salad and rice bowl were ok. Poke too salty. Salad too dressed. Meat in rice bowl very fatty and bowl was over salted. Dessert donuts were warm but not soft. Dipping cream not flavorful and runny.
Can’t say enough about the evening.
Amazing food as always! The featured entree was scallops over a butternut squash puree which was truly out of this world! We will be back soon before it's off the menu!
Great dining experience. Food was superb! Jessica took great care of us... Thanks!
Our meals were delicious, the atmosphere is lovely, prices reasonable, but service was uneven.
Calamari not so good- bland and not enough calamari
Red snapper was tasty and pork buns were delicious. Enjoyed the warm donuts with Vietnamese Chantilly cream. Great cocktails too
Went to TenPenh for lunch. Miso soup was good. Stir fried calamari had an interesting sauce and lots of spinach. I wasn't sure what to expect from this dish. It was ok, maybe it should be named spinach with light calamari soup?
The main dish was supposed to be sizing rice in a stoneware bowl (ala dol sot BiBimBop). Everything was actually good EXCEPT there was no sizzling rice. The pot was hot, but the rice never got a crust which is the whole point of ordering this dish. The spicy sauce to add to the rice wasn't very spicy either.
I think part of the problem was I was expecting something special from this place (from reading all the reviews) and it just didn't deliver in that department.
The sushi was sub-par. Not really fresh or innovative.
Food was average and not much selection for vegetarians. Our entire table wasn't too thrilled with the flavors and taste of the food. Ambiance was the draw but food was the disappointment.
