Service and food were excellent! A very enjoyable evening.
We were in Charleston for a wedding and had some time to dine on our own. If you have never tried the Tempest, you should. Yes, it is takeoff of the Shakespeare play and in fact the check comes with a copy of the play into which you can write your review. The menu is limited, but all of it is enticing. For starters try the tuna balls are a treat. The ribeye steak was tasty and properly cooked while the flounder and grouper were outstanding. After a wonderful desert, we were treated to roses for the ladies, cigars for the gentlemen and a cordial for all. Service was equal to the great food. Don't miss it!
I brought a friend that had never dined at the Tempest before. She was blown away. We shared the heirloom tomato salad and I had the swordfish and she had the flounder. Everything was outstanding. Oh I almost forgot to mention the best side, fingerling potatoes. We can't wait to go back! The waitress was great too!
Food and service was amazing! Definitely going back!!
Food was great!
We had a great night and the service was exceptional. We ended up spending more money than expected but we were rewarded with delightful cigars, cognac and a beautiful rose to go home with.
vacationing in charleston. loved tempest from beginning to end. service was great. food was delicious. dessert was exceptional. loved it!
Tempest is awesome. Everything about our dinner was terrific. Great service, food, setting, etc. Highly recommend it.
Came in town to visit my son in the Navy. Took him to Tempest. The service was amazing. Reservations worked perfectly. The food was really tasty. At the end of the meal they offered free cigars, rose, and a taste of Cognac. Best of all the owner cares so much for military they gave us 50% off the bill. In my 20years of service I have never been treated to a 50% off at a high quality place like Tempest. I cannot tell you how happy it made my son, wife, and me as all three of us served in the military. We will always come back to this place and hope they are successful for years and years to come.
Best meal Iv’e had in Charleston. Food was just amazing! We’ve already booked for next month. Service was impeccable too!
We had a great experience at Tempest. We were able to order off the special menu for restaurant week and everything was very good! We had red oak salads, the grouper w/ mussels and for dessert we had hummingbird cake and rice pudding. I was a little worried at first that our reservations was for "outside" but sitting on the porch with fans blowing overhead was nice. Check them out!
I was there @ the grand opening & feel a connection to the Tempest like starting. So I return for special events & in between. Have bought a couple of friends also. The food remains outstanding & I know because I am a halfway decent cook of varied cuisine. So continue good work. Good luck!
Food was amazing and the staff was outstanding!!! Try to get Josh as your waiter he goes over and beyond to make sure you have a great time!!
We’re locals that love this restaurant. Our advice is to request seating downstairs, so you can sit underneath the stained glass ceiling.
Went for brunch and sat on the front porch by the market - great little spot! Went for restaurant week and had a 4 course meal and 2 beverages for around $50 (the pre fix was 3 courses, had oysters in addition). Some of the best shrimp and grits in town - and thats hard to claim in Charleston. Very impressed with the quality, presentation, and ambiance for the money paid. Highly recommend.
We entered Tempest and the dining room is stunning! We knew we were going to enjoy this evening .
The host staff were extremely friendly and enthusiastic. Our server Maureen came next and she was the best server experience we had in four days in Charleston. She was very sweet and friendly , knowledgeable , listened well, made great suggestions and just seemed genuinely interested in us and our experience. A true gem!
Great cocktail and extensive wine list . My speciality cocktail was beautiful.
We decided to get items off the restaurant week menu. My husband does not like oysters but Maureen suggested getting a certain Carolina oyster and charcoal roast. My husband was almost fighting me for the last one and said he could eat a plate of those.
We both got fish and both were amazing . Beautifully plated , seasoned and cooked to perfection. The salads and deserts were lovely also. When the check came in “The Tempest” with the sweet extra items included it elevated this experience to a level we have not experienced in Charleston. Of the eighteen places we ate this week this was our favorite hands down.
Perfect for a date night. You will not regret your decision.
Found metal staples at the bottom of my water glass. Although the staff was apologetic and replaced the water, no offer of a dessert or other minor compensation was offered. That is what we did when I worked in the food service. Did they think I put them there?
I had an enjoyable brunch, the highlight being the soufflé pancakes, and the service was excellent.
The restaurant is just beautiful. The food is exquisitely prepared and plated. And the service was impeccable. Just the best. And we felt the prices were perfect if not lower than we expected.
Excellent food. Friendly & helpful wait staff. Unique architecture. A cool bustling spot.
Great service, great food, a must when in Charleston
Service is outstanding. Food was good to great depends on what you have. Special touch at the end of the meal is a nice surprise, I won’t spoil it for the next person. Definitely worth trying!
Maureen was a wonderful waitperson and always on time with more water and on point with suggestions. Food was stunning and delicious.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Was the perfect place to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary.
We ate at the Tempest during Restaurant Week & ordered from the special menu. Each dish was innovative, tasty & beautifully presented. The fish was of the freshest quality. The decor was in keeping with the nautical theme. We started with smoked Octopus and a watermelon sea bass crudo for appetizers. I had a Red Snapper entree and the Hummingbird Cake for dessert.
The special for restaurant week was excellent and an excellent value. Appetizer, main course, and dessert for $40.
The only minor complain would be that the size of the appetizer portion (octopus) was smaller than I would have liked. Aside form that the meal was excellent.
without a doubt, I would go back.
Best meal of my life!!
Really great atmosphere, sat outside for my first visit. The service was excellent (thank you Sydney!), cocktails were delicious and food was fabulous. At the end of the meal we loved when our server brought us the bill tucked inside a dog-eared copy of Shakespeare's The Tempest. The quick overview of the building and it's history was fantastic as were the complementary rose and cigar we received plus 2 sips of some pretty fabulous cognac. It's the little extra things that made the experience so outstanding. While we dined during restaurant week of the special pre fix menu, we will go again to try out brunch as well as the full dinner menu.
Beautiful restaurant! The restaurant week choices were all outstanding! The Swordfish poached in Duck Fat was to die for. The grouper was great too. The octopus appetizer was so tasty and tender. Service was very good and they were very busy . The Cognac and a rose for ladies and Cognac with a cigar for men was a very nice after dinner surprise! The copy of Shakespeare’s Tempest with your check was really neat too! Lots of attention to detail! Will be back!
The food was amazingly delicious! Three courses for $40 was competitively priced. However, the entrees came with NO sides, and all the sides were $12. So my final bill, no drinks, with taxes and 20% gratuity, was slightly over $70. Would I visit Tempest again? Of course…both the service and food were THAT good!
The food and the service was impeccable we will be back thanks so much!
Great service ! Wonderful food ! Nice atmosphere! Excellent wine list ! It was all perfect ! We loved it and will definitely be back!
Declan was wonderful!!
The food was good (at best) but the portion size is small for the price.
Did Restaurant week menu. Outstanding food and service!!!
Great service during restaurant week. Food was more than unusual. A bit odd actually. I went with friends and thought we'd try out something new. I didn't expect every item to be a bit odd in preparation. Not a fan of going back but glad we tried it.
Upstairs was very noisy and lacking in ambiance, especially when compared to the downstairs space. But the food was lovely and the service was great.
We went to Tempest for Restaurant week. We arrived at 7-00pm, drinks took a while to arrive, once we had ordered our Restaurant week meal, we only started eating at 9-00pm. The food was amazing but so little food, it was shocking, I would rather have ordered from the main menu, it would have been more value. Our waiter was very good.
I would not go to any restaurants during Restaurant week again because of this experience.
First visit to Charleston. The experience at Tempest was very pleasant.
