Temper Grille Ratings and Reviews
We were pleased when we walked in at the eclectic decor and the over padded cushioned Boths. Reminded us of being in the middle east. The food was awesome. Everything we tried was very tasty. The wine and beer list are very exciting and extensive. We'll be back. Oh... and are server was very friendly and personable.
I really like the Tapas style. That is, separate appetizer-like plates that can be shared. The food was of good quality and taste. However, I did not think it lived up to the hype of a certain local radio station. The food was good but not outstanding IMO. And outstanding is what I was looking/hoping for. I will say that the chocolate truffles were excellent and did live up to the hype.
For my reservation on Open Table I requested a booth explaining that my 2 friends were celebrating birthdays so we had gifts and wanted the comfort and extra space of one of their large booths. They were not busy when we arrived yet we were told we couldn't have a booth, as they "save" them for larger groups (which by the way I have sat with 5 others in a booth and it was very crowded and uncomfortable). Of the 3 booths only 2 were used all evening, so the 3 of us could have been seated in one. This was Disappointment #1. The service was fair. As they had many empty tables all evening, the service should have been better...Disappointment #2. The food took quiet a while to start coming out, which was odd because they weren't that busy. Some of the food we wanted to enjoy together and we mentioned this to our server. Generally the dishes stream in and overlap, but we had 1 dish delivered and then nothing for quite some time, then all of a sudden several were delivered at the same time and finally our last dish came out much later after most everything else was consumed...Disappointment #3. My friends paid with credit cards, and I paid with cash. Imagine my surprise when no money/change was returned. The server kept the $7 change assuming it was the tip from my share...Disappointment #4. And finally the overall experience just isn't what it used to be. The prices have increased, yet the portions are smaller. The time spent there just isn't that special anymore. We have heard more and more unfavorable reviews about Temper Grille and sadly my friends and I have been disappointed the last 2 times we were there. Perhaps the owner/chef needs to review his own restaurant and look around to see all of the new homegrown eateries that are popping up getting attention. We have been fans of TG since it opened, but it needs to step up it's game plan to stay competitive and well-liked. Otherwise people will find new places to spend their valuable time and money.
The only reason I didn't give a 5 for ambiance is because the table we were seated at was directly in front of the door & every time the door opened a very cold draft blew under the table. The food was fabulous as usual & the waitstaff was much improved from the last time we dined here.
We were not immediately greeted although there were not many diners in the restaurant the day before Valentine's Day about 5 pm. We had reservations. The hostess pointed to one of the high top bar tables and we asked for a booth and she said no. I do not care for the high tables because I am short and they are uncomfortable to get in and out of. We had a pretty good and attentive waiter although he was very busy taking care of the bar also, so I always felt rushed when ordering. Our party shared the chopped salad (good), steak bites (good but will go back to the duck bites because we like them better), tried the crab cakes for the first time and they were very good, and ended with the sea bass which was excellent. We were offered dessert but turned it down because only two suggestions were made. I think if Temper had a pastry chef as good as their regular chef, the restaurant could offer some amazing desserts.
Although I do enjoy the food, I never really feel comfortable at Temper...uncomfortable seating (for two) and feel rushed and the employees do not feel happy to see their diners. We've been coming to Temper shortly after they opened and we've always felt that the staff (other than the male waiter we had were not up to the caliber of what the restaurant could be. They are more like staff who would be employed at a bar.
Yes, we will return for the food.
The food was excellent and the service was good except for the fact that the whole experience felt very rushed. Now, I have worked in restaurants and I understand the the desire to get tables turned but this is NOT a big a big dining room and it is quite pricey. People want to savor this type of dining experience...a bit llike an investment. It was particularly puzzling as it was not a special occasion night like Valentine's Day nor was it even a weekend night AND there wasnt anyone waiting for a table. This, sadly, greatly reduced my enjoyment of the experience
Extremely small space and atmosphere was nothing special. We were given THE WORST table in a corner on top of another table even with a reservation on a Wednesday night. Food was good but server forgot one of our tapas and we needed to remind her to bring it out. Better than most but nothing special other than the food quality. Prices were at a level that demands better service and atmosphere.
This was our 4th visit to temper and it never fails to satisfy. Roman is a great server and everything was just great. Thanks again for the great food. We ended up staying a little longer than expected talking with friends and we never got the feeling like we were being rushed out. Thanks again to Roman for knowing the menu and being patient with us. We will be back!!
We couldn't dine in because we were traveling with a dog and couldn't leave him unattended. I enjoyed a glass of wine while waiting for our order. The food was delivered quickly. My wife had the lobster bites and I had the steak bites. Both dishes were excellent. We were very pleased.
We took our son here to celebrate his 21st birthday and had a wonderful time. The service was excellent and the food was excellent. We all especially loved the short rib sandwiches-the meat was tender and the sauce rich. The chef and staff here always do an excellent job-this is one of our top 5 restaurants in the area.
My wife and I received a gift card for Temper Grille, and since we have never been there we decided to try it Sat night.
Food was excellent, place is small and cozy and service was great.
Portion sizes were perfect for sharing and we had Steak Bites, Pork Bites, Mac and Cheese and Chicken Marcella..
We will be back.
This was my boyfriends first time to Temper Grille. He absolutely loved it, which means we will be back! As always, the food, ambience and experience was amazing! We had the sirloin bites, lobster bites, asparagus and the chicken Marsala. I wish the Marsala was a regular on the menu! It was delicious! Our food was hot, fresh and tasted perfectly! I enjoyed a glass of the red sangria and he a yummy IPA! Thank you for the delicious meal! We will see you soon!
Changed the menu since the last time we were there. Two dishes that we loved are now a new recipe and we didn't like as much: Duck fat fried potatoes (had a different taste and now it has egg on top-gross!!!) and shrimp bites (now have green peppers in them and seasonings were different). Also took a couple of dishes off the menu. Our waitress was friendly and good but we probably won't go back.
We have been a frequent guest at Temper Grille, but it may be time to pull back.. While there has been the odd hiccup through the years, the feeling there is it is starting to coast on its reputation. And let's get this straight - we are two of the most relaxed, undemanding patrons in restaurant history..I do not like being asked for my drink order and meal selection as soon as my coat is off, but on this evening we actually had to track down our waitress to give her a drink order. And it was pretty much an evening of being ignored.. Food quality is still pretty good. They no longer offer bread with orders of steak or pork bites like they used to, so when we order bread it really should not be delivered after we have finished our pork bites. Doesn't make sense..And this is not the first time this has happened. Another ongoing observation is the cute little game they play with letting friends and family without reservations sneak in and get seats. Any owner has the right to do as he/she pleases, and hostesses and bartenders give preferential treatment in most restaurants. But the other night there were several couples turned away because the restaurant was 'full' and they had no reservations. yet others (who clearly knew the hostess) were either seated at those so called unavailable tables or went to the bar's reserved seats, despite the restaurant claiming that bar seats are always first come-first-served..TG still does a good business; food is very good, and we have been fortunate to avoid sitting in the lifeless, windowless back 'closet'.. But too many times of being treated less like a guest than a nuisance.
Took my Wife there for her birthday. It was our first time at this establisment. We were both in agreement as to our satisfaction. We absolutely enjoyed every aspect of our time there. The food was some of the best that we have ever experienced, the service was awesome and the atmosphere was unique. We highly recommend Temper Grille to any one that wants to experience a unique & enjoyable dining experience. You won't regret it! It is a small place so you will need a reservation to get in.
When I walked in it took awhile for anyone to come and greet me (it wasn't busy and I had reservations). However the wine was awesome, the Mac and cheese was exceptional and the smoked salmon was excellent. Come with an empty belly and time to chill, eat, and drink. They don't rush you out and it's such a relaxing place. Definitely a more chic, metropolitan feel (with no noisy kids to ruin your adults only evening out). this is my new favorite quiet evening with friends restaurant.
Temper Grille is a great alternative when you're looking for something unique and not cookie-cutter. The tapas style is great for lighter eaters, or those who may want a variety of foods in one meal; and the wine selection by bottle or glass is well thought out. The best change we noticed since our last TG experience is the addition of an extended entryway at the front door, so no one is blasted with cold air every time anyone enters. We sat right in front of the door and were very pleased with the new "climate control" system. In short: a great meal in a nice setting with great service.
Food was good but portions are too small to justify the price. Steak bites are always a favorite but seemed rushed and were heaped into a small bowl to make it look like more. We were a group of 4 and several dishes were not big enough for a sampling by all ... Something the waitress could have helped us with. If you don't score a booth your forced to sit at a table they should only accommodate 2. VERY DRAFTY by the front door. Wait staff didn't offer fresh ground pepper in salad and portions were way too small. Excellent wine list and reasonable beer prices. A typical meal for 2 here will be at the $100 mark with drinks and the portion sizes just aren't there. We expected more.
We have dined at this wonderful restaurant many times and enjoy the great food as well as the WONDERFUL atmosphere. However, on this occasion we were seated in the back room which cuts you off from the rest of the restaurant. This room has a television which had football playing, can lighting that shines down overhead from a drop ceiling. Nothing at all like the atmosphere in the main dining area. If you were choosing this restaurant for a special occasion or date night, this room would not have met your expectations. This definitely took away from the dining experience. When making reservations in the future I will be sure to request the main dining area. As always, the food was fantastic!!
