About TEI-AN

The stylish Japanese restaurant specializes in freshly made soba noodle dishes, served hot or cold in soups or with dipping sauces. The restaurant is owned by Teiichi Sakurai, well-known as the founder of Teppo and Tei Tei.

Soba is a thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour – there are only 5 in the country which prepares fresh noodle on the premises.

Owner and staff want for you to experience a touch of Tokyo in the middle of Dallas: "modern Tokyo" mixing rich wood, concrete, stone, steel and glass. The best seats in the house are at the dining room’s soba bar that wraps the stone garden.

Tei An is one of our favorites but Saturday’s meal was dissapointing. Opted for the omakase and that was a mistake. Coursing was slow and erratic. Huge plate of tempura with lots of potato and shrimp. At $100 per person, did not expect fried shrimp and potatoes. Everything else was fine but nothing stood out as exceptional. Better choice for apps and a drink.

Worth the price...Special experience.
We had the Chef Special 7piece sashimi and the order of the fish was designed with intention. Amazing. The bolognese was amazing. Best restaurant experience I've ever had

We had sushi and started with edamame The baby yellowtail sushimi was excellent as was the sushi and rolls. The must have desert is the ice cream with the black clover honey
Our server was very attentive and made sure we were out on time to go to the symphony
Glasses of wine are small, so better value to order a bottle.

By far the worst meal and service that I have had in recent memory. I had very high expectations as I had read so many reviews, but the wrong food was delivered to me, meals were served at various times rather than all entree's together, and one person in our party never received their entree. When I grabbed the manager, since Anthony our waiter avoided our table, he said, "Oh, sorry, we wont' charge you for that entree". Of course you won't since you never brought it !!!! Maybe they changed managers, maybe all of the regular staff called in sick, but by far the poorest execution I've seen. Quality of food would also be rated at a 1 star by everyone at our table who did receive food, so something must have been amiss in the kitchen as well. So many other good choices in Dallas, eat elsewhere.

I had heard a lot about this place and really enjoyed my meal here. The sushi is EXTREMELY fresh and wonderful, but also quite pricey.

Possibly the biggest drawback would be that unlike the traditional 2 pieces offered/delivered with a single sushi order, they only give you a single piece (which as far as I know may go against tradition and honestly, feels a little bit like a ripoff). If the prices were even 70-80% higher but they offered the traditional 2 pieces, this factor would probably not be in this review.

The hot sake was good and the cold sake I had was wonderful. If I were to be "nitpicky," I would say that the hot sake should be delivered a little bit hotter, as it was only a little better than luke-warm when it arrived (thus, cooled off just a little too quickly).

In closing, I'll say that the fish IS some of the freshest and best I've had in a while and my friend said that the cooked meal he had was also wonderful.

Great food and service. Small, cozy atmosphere. Tables are, however, quite close together so would pass if you're looking for an intimate or more removed table

We weren't as happy as we usually are at Tei An this past Thursday night. We love the food and the service is usually excellent, and very good about getting you out in time for an Arts District event. But this time it was a 10-15 minute wait for our first glass of wine. And a longer than usual wait to get our order taken, even at our seats at the bar. The orders did come in good time, however, and the servers did a good job after the slow start. One other change we weren't happy with is that there was busy music playing too loud; we've always appreciated the serene Zen environment, which the music disrupted.

Waiter talking to next table allowed his butt to hang over my food and in my face while he took their order. Maybe the tables are too close together or maybe he was just inexperienced.

Tei-An was good. My wife and I each had the Omakase and it was pretty solid throughout - the beef was insanely good but the tempura was a bit bland. Admittedly both my wife and I are a bit spoiled with this type of cuisine after dining at Morimoto's in Philly. Tei-An is good, maybe one of the better places in DFW, but it is a long shot from Morimoto's.

I am Japanese. Tei-An's Soba is very good even when I compare to Soba in Japan. Of course, how the Soba is cut is not perfect like Hand-made soba in Japan, but the texture, al dente-ness of the noodle is very good.
It is amazing I could eat Soba like this in Dallas!
Very authentic.
Their dish-wares are very Japanese and pretty.
I love this restaurant.

Once again never disappoints. This is probably my 2nd or 3rd review. Order the white seaweed salad, tuna carpaccio, snow crab rice balls, ikura, curry soba noodles, buckwheat risotto with truffle oil, any sushi/sashimi on the menu period, look at the specials menu and get one or 2 items there as well. We had some special Toro and it melted in my mouth. I've eaten here about 50 times over the last several years no lie. Worth every single penny don't cheap out here save your money and do it right.

Teiichi and everyone at TeiAn were amazing - from the minute we walked in the door, this was one of the three most amazing meals of my life - including my wedding day. The appetizers, soba, and rich but not heavy desserts and ice cold beer and light sake were perfection and the genuine caring that Teiichi and his staff expressed as we celebrated the anniversary of my husband's living donor liver transplant received from his brother was beyond joyous. This was a perfect experience for which we can't fully express our gratitude.

Tei- An is currently my favorite restaurant. The food has always been outstanding and the service, friendly and well informed. These are great traits when experimenting on many dishes.
I would recommend a specific dish but I have yet to have one that we didn't love on multiple visits. My wife has not always been so enamored saying the ambience has a sterile quality, but not this visit. Perhaps it was the lively staff and crowd. JM

Food wasn't bad. Service wasn't bad. But nothing to write home about for the price. They seated us at a really small table for 2 when the place was empty and we had reservations. Both of us are over 6 feet tall so as a business meal we had no place to put down our phones or papers for discussion. Finally, I expect more when lunch costs over $50. It wasn't bad but wasn't a value for your money.

My wife and I just dined during DFW's KRLD Restaurant Week. To date, Tei-An was the best of the best.

Appetizers included White Seaweed Salad and Foil Baked Enoki Mushrooms which were both delicious. The second course (Chef Specials) had Pork Shumai Dumplings and Tei-An Crispy Shrimp that were both the highlight of our evening. The dumplings were complimented with a Japanese hot mustard that brought the taste buds to the brink of overload, but didn't actually get there. The Tei-An shrimp were huge, plentiful, and complimented with a very tasty spicy mayonnaise. In brief, they were the best tempura shrimp I've ever eaten. We both enjoyed the Short Green Soba Bolgnese with Washu Beef entrée, as well as the Smoked Salmon Pressed Sushi.

Dessert was not included, but we opted for the ice cream with black honey sauce and the ice cream with Grand Marnier liquor. Both were wonderful. The service was excellent.
