My family and I ate here the night before the Boston Marathon. The food was outstanding and they made an accommodation for my picky 10 year old’s dinner. Especially delicious was the mushroom soup, the calamari, the scallops and the rib eye. The noise level is fairly low and you don’t have to speak too loudly to carry on a conversation.
We booked last minute last getting in town for the marathon. We ended up eating in the bar and actually had great service. Perfect classic Italian food!
Dinner before going to a show
We absolutely love it here! Every time we go, it's consistently amazing! You will not be disappointed!
First time at Teatro. A friend who lives in Boston recommended it to us. We were going to show at the Orpheum and it was in a perfect location. The food was outstanding! The service was outstanding! The prices were excellent (especially in the city). From bread to dessert, everything was spectacular.
The food and staff at Teatro was very good. Our food came out quickly and tasted awesome. The noise level was very high and it was difficult to have an intimate conversation. The seating was very close together which also made it hard to have a private conversation. Overall, the food and service outweighed the noise - would recommend!
delicious, great service, great location. consistently great.
Terrific food and atmosphere!!
The food and service were great. The noise level was a bit high. Great for pre-theater dining.
The food and drinks were great, service was a little slow and we felt like the waiter was looking past us quite a bit. The table next to us of two, we were three, sat nearly 20 minutes after us but somehow had their food and drinks before our waiter even took our order.
After seeing a movie at the Boston Common 19 complex next door we usually have dinner at Teatro. The atmosphere is comfortable with a hip, cosmopolitan vibe. The food is always good, and the menu has lots of options from small bites to full entrées. The wine list has a decent selection of wines by the glass. Our waiter was nice enough to let me try a small sip of three wines I was debating over. The chef was also accommodating by deleting grains under my salmon entrée and substituting garlic spinach. Unfortunately my husband did not like the herbed bread. He much prefers the flat bread crackers and the focaccia they used to serve. We are also not fans of the spicy bean dip for bread, so we always ask for butter and/or olive oil. The host that evening, Ian, seated us at our favorite table, which is noted in our customer profile. Teatro is very customer oriented, and the staff goes that extra mile to make sure every dining experience is enjoyable.
Truly good, lighter Italian food!
Located in a jam packed, tunnel-like space near the Commons, Teatro serves truly good, modern Italian food and fun cocktails. The vibe is young (not college young, but 30 somethings), energetic and vibrant. We were promptly greeted but seated nearly 15 minutes after our reservation. (The hostess was very pleasant and apologetic.) We shared delicious pizzas (super thin and crunchy crust with sausage, onion and rapini) and a kale Caesar salad to start. Excellent and tasty starters! One entree was orrechietti with garlic, rapini and sausage and it had terrific flavor. (Great sausage is hard to find, and Teatro has it) The well cooked linguini with clams was very good, but had a bit too much hot pepper. The chicken Milanese was perfectly cooked, with crunchy breading on moist, delicious chicken and was topped with a little arugula and tomato. It was simple, fresh and delicious. Everything we ate was fresh, hot, and well prepared! The service was very efficient and quite pleasant, again, despite the very crowded dining room. On the cocktail side, the white grape cosmopolitan was smooth and good but the thyme infused cocktail had a bit too much thyme (splitting hairs here because this place is REALLY good!) Teatro is a super restaurant with a great chef! It is on our “must visit list” whenever we come to Boston!
First time prior to a theater show.
We were staying at a nearby hotel and my wife and I, who enjoy fine dining regularly, wanted to try a place that we had not been to before. We read the reviews and thought we would give it a try. We were not disappointed at all. The reviews were spot-on. A very interesting menu, our meals were prepared very well, they tasted delicious and the service was excellent. Always a positive when the waiter knows the menu and is willing to make suggestions. Even the hostess was kind enough to allow me to email my theater tickets to the restaurant as I had left them back in my hotel room. She printed them and delivered them right to our table. The ambiance and decor were very very nice. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for fine dining in Boston. For what it is worth, I had the veal saltimbocca and my wife had the Bolognese. Both tasted delicious. We will be going back.
My boyfriend and I's favorite restuarant! We love the food, specifically the campenelle bolognese and spaghetti carbonara. The tomato pizza is our favorite way to start off dinner and it is incomparably divine! We also love the service - the staff is attentive, but not hovering or stifling. We look forward to many more visits in the future!
Server was outstanding- no pressure to move us along.
Food was delicious and my Desert Expresso Martini one of the best I’ve had.
Not good, was there for an anniversary, and was not taken care of in any way for that.. wasn't even looking for that to be honest. The food was mediocre and for the price definitely not worth you're time. There are hundreds of better places in Boston. Don't waste your time and money
Love this restaurant and the food and drinks didn’t disappoint
However the server was abrupt and a bit surly.
Still it was a good dinner and I look forward to returning
We enjoyed a great dinner with spotty service. Our waiter was nice enough - but as other reviewers of this restaurant have indicated, it is a bit lackluster. Knowing this, we were sure to order everything together and right away. A 5:15 reservation - we barely made it to the Wilbur for 7 - had we delayed ordering at all, we would've surely been late. It is kind of frustrating considering this is a place people frequent before going to a show, and are thus on a time schedule. The restaurant should be more sensitive to times. There really was no way to speed things along either - our waiter disappeared for long stretches many times. The food is great, and you can't beat the proximity to trains/theater district.
Food is always consistently good and comes out piping hot. Wait staff is always professional and knowledgeable. I love the art deco decor!
Service started off a little rocky. Ordered calamari and salami tray. Both were mediocre at best. Calamari could have done without, not quality and over battered. Salami plate was good. Wine selection was poor. Dinner order the veal and the orechetti and they were both really good.
Poorly dressed clientele, service was fine, food was fine. Nothing special. Will not go back. Sorry, not sorry.
Nothing really special. Good food, good service.
A pricey Italian restaurant near the theater district. Over-priced, not particularly imaginative, although well prepared food with leisurely service.
My favorite go to restaurant in the theatre district , great Italian food with fabulous service . I had the best piece of prepared fish a Branzino, incredibly sweet more like dessert than fish !
I hadn't been here for awhile and it was great to come back! My friends and I had dinner before the theater and Teatro was the perfect place. My carbonara and kale salad were both total comfort food and delicious, and my friend enjoyed the whole branzino. Our other friend enjoyed the veal shank but found the portion a little small. The meat was delicious but it didn't seem to have much else to it. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. We also arrived early - 5:30 - so it was pretty peaceful. It gets crowded pretty quickly so dine early if you prefer a more mellow scene.
My wife and I have been coming here for 6 plus years.
The food is consistently delicious. Great Martinis.
Tonight we shared the Radicchio salad and the wild mushroom soup and we each had the lobster in homemade pasta shells w/Vermont butter. Delicious!!
Service was great. The only negative they raised the prices on the Martinis. $18.50 for a Grey Goose Cosmo.
This is is a deal breaker for me!
Went for dinner prior to a show at the Shubert Theatre. Service was very good and as usual the food was top notch. Wine by the glass was a healthy pour. Staff was friendly and very efficient. It happened to be my wife’s birthday and they surprised us with an excellent desert with candles.
Will be going back soon.
Food was good and service ok. We were heading to a show and we were in and out quickly
Excellent food. Perfect service. Wait staff know exactly from which side to serve and from which side to remove. Fresh silverware after each course. Very impressive. Also split appetizers are split in the kitchen
Very vibrant, a little loud but in a good way. Food was excellent, and reasonable prices, with good spirits to choose from.
We ate dinner here when in town from California. It was conveniently located by The Common and our hotel. We secured reservations online and they were pretty accurate with our seating time considering it was Friday night over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
We ordered a bottle of Italian red wine for the table. Impressed at the prices! Much less than in Cali. Anyways, the bread and food were really good, especially the eggplant parmigiana dish! We will be back when in town this summer. The service was very good too despite the packed restaurant.
Food and service are top-notch and consistently reliable. I've been coming to Teatro for years and have always loved the experience. The same was true this time . . . but I was shocked to see that all the gorgeous architectural detail in the vaulted ceiling has been painted away. Why?? This was the restaurant's signature design element--very memorable and special--and it's now been washed away in a sea of taupe blandness. Hope this is just an interim phase of a more thoughtful plan to restore the earlier detailing.
I was dining alone and service was very attentive. The place was packed on a Friday evening. Food was delicious. I had radicchio salad with Gorgonzola and walnuts followed by pizza with mushroom and truffled ricotta. Didn’t taste much truffle in the ricotta that was dotted over the pizza but thin crispy perfectly charred crust made up for it. Limited dessert menu, cappuccino about average. Would be nice for a date, ask for a corner table
I love the half portions. Well crafted Italian comfort food.
We were seated on promptly and Wilson our server was very attentive . The food was delicious. The only negative aspect was the proximity of the neighboring diners, we were practically rubbing elbows.
Super noisy! Tables super close each other. Wine list limited. No planning to come back
Dinner was fabulous and even though the place was packed you would hardly notice. The food was top notch as were the drinks. Worth every penny and affordable still!!
Very nice experience, especially for the food, which was all excellent. Friendly staff. (would like a more full-bodied red on the wine list. Would definitely recommend.
Always love this place, though the food was not the best this time around. And dessert has been bad recently. But typically a great dinner and great ambiance.
