I enjoy Korean food and looked forward to eating dinner. We felt our mains ( especially the fish dish) were were skimpy for the price.

Better than expected! Had the Mool Hwae, which is their version of a salad. It was fine, though too spicy for some (would not recommend this); the Pa jeon, which is a delicious green onion pancake, and is highly recommended; the dalkoritang, which is described as a spicy half chicken--it was fine and I did not consider it spicy at all; the japchae, which is a very tasty dish with glass noodles; the branzino, which is appropriately described in these reviews as tiny, and is overpriced for the size of it, though it was tasty; and the galbi jjim a delicious braised short rib--note the menu describes it as short ribS, but we only received one rib. Overall we found the food very good and the service was attentive as well.

Our location outside and dinner were lovely. It was a noisy evening, but it was because of a beautiful celebration on the plaza, no fault of Abernethy’s. Our server was particularly kind…my friend has food allergies and he went to the chef to find out what menu items would not be good for her. Great experience.

Went for dinner before a show. Arrived 12 mins early but hostess refused to seat us until reservation time. Once seated, we informed the waiter our 7:30 showtime. However, our waiter didn't come back to the table to give us our check in a timely manner. I had to get the waiter and ask for the check. Not to mention our waiter was MIA most of the evening. If you can, grab dinner somewhere else before coming to see a show at Music Center.

As everyone knows, the Chef is rotated every few months. Mindy Oh is the chef this time. We loved the food. We split the cheese corn and then the Branzino and the Japchae which has the noodles and mushrooms. Although we usually ordered wine, I got beer went especially well with the Korean flavors.

Overall, the restaurant was quite impressive, but a little expensive. The food was outstanding, but the portions were a bit small. The Branzino and the braised short ribs were particularly tasty, but the Hamachi appetizer, which was amazing, could have used a few more slices. Our server, Nadia, was amazing and helped make our night perfect.

Would have given 3.5 stars if that were an option. Pleasant enough spot for a pre-theater/concert supper. The restaurant chef and menu changes (every few months?). The night we went, the menu was Korean-themed. The dishes were mildly adventuresome if uneven. Service was excellent though. The location is perfect for an event at the Music Center. I would go back under a different chef.

Very innovative cuisine. The staff seemed a little bit disorganized. Our waiter offered to serve our four “starter” dishes to be served together, and we agreed because we had a time limit. But we only got two dishes served. And 30 minutes later we had one more dish served but we had to cancel the fourth because we had run out of time.

Lovely place, with great ideas and intentions, but food was hit and miss. Squash was eh. Branzino was beautifully cooked, but we all thought the carrot topping overwhelmed it. We don’t regret going there at all, but won’t go back. Too many other places that hit the mark more consistently, we think.

We regularly visit to try the changing menus, and this one was as fantastic as the previous menus. I loved the Korean flavors, and the staff was fantastic. The only disappointment was the rice balls dessert. It did not live up to the level of the other dishes.

Excellent spiced chicken, skimpy garnish. Limited choice of deserts; nothing dairy-free but for indigestible rice balls. Why can restaurants not offer fresh fruit, sorbet and cookies to their lactose-intolerant customers? Wines way overpriced. Dragon Field PN priced at $17 a glass, even though a bottle probably wholesales for $15. A craft beer at $7 is a far better value. On the plus side, the service is friendly and the outdoor tables on the Music Center plaza are a delight. Best of all, Abernethy is QUIET, with no amplified music

We have dined at Abernethy's several times before, pre-theater at The Music Center. It's a pop-up restaurant with rotating chefs and previously we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Unfortunately, yesterday's meal was a disappointment and expensive to boot. We shall return to Abernethy's but not while the current chef is in the kitchen.

The four of us dined at Abernathy‘s before walking over to Disney Hall. It was a Saturday night, and even though not all the tables were filled they were certainly short on help. It took us at least half an hour to get our drinks. We did not order appetizers and when, the main course arrived they were tinier than an appetizer would have been. My husband was so enraged with a portion of his Bronzino that he sent it back and refused to eat it at all. Overall, I cannot recommend Abernathy‘s.

Our party of six was there for dinner before the opening night of LA Opera's El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego. Our table was ready when we arrived and we were seated promptly in the outdoor patio (most of the seating is outdoor and we had requested outdoor seating). It was a chilly evening, but the heat lamps made it feel nice and warm. The setting is lovely and the atmosphere was lively. As for the food? Delectable!! Three of us shared the vegetarian dishes on featured chef Mindy Oh's small but thoughtful menu. We were happy to see a number of vegetarian options (it would be good to mark the vegetarian items on the menu). All the food we tasted was incredible. The cocktail, Running Man, was excellent too. We would go back again and again. The service was fine. It was a busy night. Our water wasn't refilled even once and our server started clearing the dishes before we were done eating--because the food was so delicious we were sorry we didn't get to eat the last bites!

We arrived for an early dinner due to the current traffic issues and the rain. We enjoyed a quiet corner table inside. We've only enjoyed dining at Abernathy's outside on their patio. The atmosphere inside is definitely more intimate but calming and quite nice. We totally enjoyed Mendy Oh's creative use of her Korean heritage and contemporary LA vibe. The main noodle dish was quite addicting. Could have ordered it again! We hope to have another opportunity to try some of her other dishes hopefully at our next time at the Music Center.

This new chef is super heavy on the salt. The branzino was a small filet and disappointing. The ribs were salty as was everything else, to the detriment of any flavor. Just a mush in that regard. The squash was undercooked and dry. The last few times here have been excellent - loved the Italian and the American southern, but this is a miss sadly. Hopefully they can tweak or the next chef will be good.

I love the chef take-over. Four things that stood out to me. The food was delicious. With that said, the portion of fish was on the small side and came completely unaccompanied so it was just a piece of fish. That made it expensive for what I got. It took a little more time than I expected for someone to come to our table. We were going to the theatre and only had an hour. And finally, our table wobbled (small thing) and the apparent soluution was for me to put my foot on the bottom to hold it steady rather than for someone to come and provide a wobble wedge or alternative to hold it in place. Otherwise, our server was attentive. He did keep an eye on the clock and keep us posted. Also, we were warm enough (sitting outside) and we made it to the theatre on time

Currently Korean Fusion is the theme for this restaurant’s seasonal menu. I dined alone after an afternoon at the Opera next door. My cucumber salad was good: fresh, traditional, small portion. I enjoyed the short ribs and side of roasted acorn squash. Squash was rather dry, but tasty. The broth for the short ribs was sweet with mirin. Rib meat was tender. Small portion. Dessert was underwhelming (3 choices). The server recommended the doughnut. I went for the rice gratin, which was essentially a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream, surrounded by crushed ice, with a wisp of rice and a few cheerio-like nubs sprinkled over. I should have ordered the doughnut.

Aside from the location, there was absolutely nothing remarkable about this restaurant. This was our first-time dining here with the understanding that the idea behind this restaurant is a rotating chef, therefore a changing menu every three months. So, the menu for our meal on 11/9/2023 was supposed to be Korean influenced. Starting with the Cheese Corn - there was nothing Korean about this dish and tasted like a cheese dip made with canned corn. At best this would pass for an appetizer at TGI Fridays. On to the Dalkdoritang, which is a braised jidori chicken. This wasn't bad, but it was not great for a $30+ dish. It lacked any distinctive flavor and really, the chicken we make in the air fryer at home comes out better than this. Finally, the Bossam, which is the braised pork belly. Never had we tried a more disappointing dish anywhere! The pork belly was absolutely flavorless, and tasted like it was just poached in water. There was a small dish on the plate which we weren't sure if it was the shrimp aguachili or the radish kinchi, but in any case, it was just a salty mess. On the plate was also some raw napa cabbage which was just cut up in these large 3-4 inch chunks. Were we supposed to wrap these huge pieces of cabbage in the pickled radish, as one would typically do at a Korean restaurant??? And unfortunately, the service was also on par with a TGI Fridays type of restaurant. Overall, we don't know how this place managed to get a 4.5 star rating on YELP. The location might be the only reason this place remains in business. Do yourself a favor, skip this place and walk a block or two to Asterid, or even better to Otium. Both are pricier, but at least the food is far superior than this particular menu at Abernethy's.

First time to sample Chef Mindy's new Korean inspired menu. Boy oh boy, was that good! Great to see her finally get a chance to show her stuff. We had the Hamachi dish (chef's kiss), the pancake (The dipping sauce was sensational... If you don't like spicy, you can't be our friend). And then on to the short ribs... which were sublime. Finished up with the granita which was refreshing and fun. Yes, there were many nods to Korean cuisine but in keeping with the spirit of Abernethy's this is Chef Mindy's food. Forward looking and with a global understanding. Abernethy's continues to be L.A."s best kept secret.

I was so pleasantly surprised by everything with this restaurant! The menu style was Korean fusion style I believe?? And it was amazing! We ordered cheese corn which was a skillet of different cheeses, flavors and corn as a dip for the best tortilla chips. Also ordered bbq duroc pork ribs absolutely delicious although just a bit salty. Still didn’t stop me from polishing them off! My husband ordered japchae which was another delectable dish! Ok service- outstanding!! We mentioned we were running late for the opera and would we be able to eat. They took our orders immediately and had it all out to us in record time. I want to go to the show again just to eat here again!! Fully recommend!!

The food was not as delicious as I expected, but I was not disappointed because it was very good. I decided to eat there as an adventure and I got that because the food involved flavor combinations that I have not had before. I approached the server in a casual manner and asked for his preferences on the menu. He responded in a like manner and suggested things that he personally liked. He treated me with an intimacy that I had hoped he would, and I appreciated it.
