Absolutely lovely meal - the burrata appetizer that we shared was heavenly and my scallops were perfectly seared and exquisitely presented. Nice sidewalk table so conversation was possible. Great service - no rushing, everything perfectly paced. I’ll be back!
Second time visiting. This time food was only okay. Little bit disappointed.
The Loyal is a great spot for an energetic dinner!
The Loyal was incredible! From the delicious food to the hospitable wait staff, killer ambiance, and great music- we are loyal to The Loyal!
Good food in tiny portions with absurd prices. And a waiter who was pouring our wine as if we signed up for the Olympics of chugging. When you have the nerve to charge such prices, have the grace to allow your customers to drink wine at our leisure. The waiter was polite but this pushing the bottle is beneath a good restaurant’s standards. Also, why offer the table the worst possible table in the joint and then the second worst, when you have plenty of tables to offer. Train your staff.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again-The Loyal is the best!
From the moment we arrived we were treated with incredible service- personable, friendly, yet professional and knowledgeable-our waiter did a great job in recommending menu items (the octopus, burger and tater tots are to die from!)
I’m just glad we live around the corner so we won’t have to go far when we want to come back! Although it definitely would be worth the trip ;)
Terrible service. Took forever in an empty restaurant for the waiter to come to us (20 mins). Or anyone to give us a menu (10 mins). Food was mediocre.
here is why i would not recommend this place. I rarely write negative reviews but this one deserved it. i explained to the hostess that i am here because of my friends birthday and i want it to be special. instead of seating us at the dining tables inside they sat us at the smallest table in the bar area. so i mentioned if we can taken one of the tables in the dining room as there were 4 top tables available. she said that we needed to wait at least 20 minutes and if the table clears up we can have it. i asked if we could take a particular table that i noticed was available and she mentioned that the table is for 5 people. we decided to stay with the small bar table. At one point when I went to the bathroom noticed that the table for five people was occupied by 4 only. the other issue was that the service was so slow and poor and had to ask for our drinks twice after 15 minutes of waiting for it. at one point we had to stack our dishes on top of each other in order to make some space. food came awfully slow and the tables were not cleared for like 10-15 when we were all done. when they finally cleared it she was basically leaning on top of me to grab the plates instead of moving around. really awkward. food was not bad but nothing to write home about. especially spending over $600. Hope this does not sound like a spoiled new yorker rant but honestly i expected more from this place especially since i had been here before.
One of the best places in the Village. We love it. There’s nothing on the menu that we’ve tried that we don’t like. Sunday brunch is really good. The frittata is terrific. We could say that about everything on the menu. We don’t understand comments about small portions. We sometimes can’t finish the portions we get. Maybe we’ve never chosen dishes that come with smaller portions but we’ve had a lot of what’s on the menu. We also don’t understand comments about service since we’ve had nothing but congenial, attentive waiters. It’s not inexpensive for sure, but it’s not outrageous by any means, and to us it’s worth it.
My waitress was amazing. So helpful and fun!
The music is too loud and not that great. Any food item less than an entree is a joke of a portion, especially the sea bass ceviche. It’s fulk of jalapeños and not much sea bass. Too many of the dishes, like the squid ink spaghetti are unnecessarily too spicy. We had to return it, which is unusual for us, but my wife can’t eat spicy food and nothing on the menu hints that it would be spicy. The shrimp scampi as a replacement was odd. It probably relied on chili pepper, but they removed it for her, so it was just bland but also too heavy.
Terrific spot. Eggs Benjamin was excellent. Drinks were kinda expensive but worth it.
I had two friends and their son visiting from out of town. They weren’t dressed snappy or anything. They were seated at the very back of the restaurant. And we had very rude and rushed service. It was pretty embarrassing. Won’t be back. Food was very good. But come on, drop the attitude. You’re at the top of Bleeker, c’mon.
Despite beautiful interior, the restaurant is extremely loud and the servers and host were very arrogant. We would never go again.
The food is excellent- we had the jalapeño grilled octopus, salmon and steak...all prepared to perfection. It’s a bit pricey for the ambience, which is a casual, corner bar/cafe. It was our anniversary and they seated us in a quiet booth and offered us a complimentary dessert. Our server was attentive and helpful, too.
We really, really loved this place. Great food and an even better staff. They have a large mirror in the back of the restaurant which makes things a little distracting, but that's such a small issue. Excellent cocktails and a solid wine list to boot! Can't recommend this place enough.
Food and service was good however, portions exceptionally small for a moderately high priced restaurant.
Noise level was thunderous.
Despite the unfriendly hostess, this place has all the Ingredients of a great restaurant.
Good food but No a/c — plenty of air circulating in the front & at the bar...just a little too stuffy in the back.
Great ambience but service was spotty and food was just OK though priced high
Nice place but completely overpriced. I paid 150 and came out hungry.
Great service great food. Loved the location
Food, ambiance, and service were all fab and consistently excellent as always at The Loyal. We look forward to next time!
Every occasion at the Loyal is great....
Likely a result of energy conservation during the heat wave, it was sweltering in the restaurant. My party was comprised of three women who describe themselves as “always cold,” so I can’t imagine how uncomfortable other diners were.
Such a nice place. Great for a friends dinner / birthday. Loved the food, service was great and drinks yummy. A great neighborhood gem.
The food was delicious, however both me and my dinner date had terrible stomach aches and food poising that night. We both had octopus, ceviche and oysters.
Dining with colleagues. One from Australia and one from Saudi Arabia. All three of us had a enjoyable time. Only issue was the diversity in the portion size. Two entrees where perfect sizes, nice and small. The other, chicken was a bit oversized First world problems I guess. Definitely will return and recommend.
Celebrated a friend’s birthday here. The staff was so nice and even made my friend a birthday card. Food was very good and fresh, but the best part was dessert. We ordered the sundae candy shop, which was an outrageously amazing dessert....scoops of ice cream with a platter of candy toppings, sauces, and whipped cream. A cozy, warm place for a celebration.
You gotta try the tater tots. Squid ink pasta, polenta and pork pasta were all excellent!
Service and food were excellent. The staff did a great job managing the busy crowd just before the Pride parade. All in our party were totally satisfied. Recommend!
The Loyal continues to be one of our favorite restaurants!
The food is always delicious and interesting and the service is always spot on
Don't ask for the Crudite plate, the spinach goddess is super salty and astringent, the shrimp scampi tasteless, but the polenta was amazing.
Food and service were good. Table in the bar area was not. Bar patrons were loud and the music was very loud on top of that. Hard to hold a conversation.
Just want to call out the fact that I went to the Loyal ~a week prior to this visit and wrote a negative review about the service.
When I returned for the visit that this review was about, I was a little nervous - same waiter, same table.
The waiter (Ben ?) absolutely knocked it out of the park, and I told him the same. Awesome service, awesome food, and I'll 100% be back/ recommend the Loyal to friends and colleagues now.
Nice turn-around, and I hope that this praise gets back to the team there. Thanks!
The polenta was more like a soup
really cool place with great food and a humming bar scene, populated by young professionals.
A great night at a fun place in the West Village. Food was great and the service was outstanding.
I'm not even a guy who writes reviews, or particularly pays attention to the 'service' aspect of the dining experience. All that I really expect from a server or hostess is courtesy and professionalism, which I always used to get at the Loyal. I'll keep this review short, but in general - please don't make your diners feel like they're on the clock at your restaurant - especially when we sit down well before the restaurant closes (arrived at 930pm) and especially when it appears not to be busy at all (15+ open tables). I'll probably be back some time, because that burger is truly fantastic - but if I have any friends who have dates/ events etc. in the future, I'll tell them to look elsewhere. Good luck.
Birthday celebration and service was atrociously bad
