Came here for dinner with my husband and in-laws to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Food and service were excellent.
My husband celebrated his birthday there and it was a great spot. Lively but not where we felt jostled or couldnt hear each other
Bring back the monkey bread!
Great service and food
Went for Dinner, Saturday 9:30. Wish I read the opentable reviews before going.
Menu reads great and approachable for all.
Hamachi- Simple, served with a spoon would be nice for the sauce. Lacked seasoning, daikon cut super thick.
Burrata- Great balance, loved the tomato/ ginger. Wish I had a half of a loaf of bread to eat with it.
Hanger- Nice temp on the cook, wish it had more color on sear, and sauce was very ok.
Shrimp Scampi- Fun, pasta had great texture, sauce was broken is a nice way but wanted a ton of lemon.
Service was weird at points but looked like they were running around. Food runners were great, friendly and professional. Otherwise, it felt like being their was an inconvenience and everyone lacked support. Hard to not overhear the banter about the kitchen not being on the same page on the floor.
Could be a one off and hope this place makes memories for someone else.
Advice to fellow diners: try the decadent burger!
Would only go back to bar
Food is overpriced and smelled funny, kind of like chlorine. Portions were so small for the price and level of restaurant..
Awful service, food just ok, very over priced for what it is.
The atmosphere is beautiful. The food was delicious. The hostess was absolutely lovely and helpful. Two things were not ideal:
1) we ate early- the dining room was empty- and we could hardly get attention (maybe they were getting ready for the New Year’s onslaught?)
2) Prices were exorbitant for a hamburger and small bowl of pasta. Thankfully, it was delicious because the bill surprised us! Overall value not ideal.
We really enjoyed our lunch here on New Year’s Day. We made a last minute change from two people to three, not an issue.
Our table was up front next to the window. Our waiter was extremely nice and patient with us as we lingered over drinks before and after our meal. He was also well informed about the menu and the wines on offer.
The portions were large and the food was delicious.
I would definitely come back and recommend without hesitation. Great experience all around.
Don’t know what happened to this place. The brunch menu has shrunk, and service has become indifferent. One of my guest’s food arrived after everyone else had finished their meal. No apologies from the server. The egg on the egg sandwich was a block of lukewarm precooked omelette. $14 for two club sodas from the bar. That will be my last visit.
This was great for food and drinks with a fun but upscale atmosphere.
New Year’s Eve
Loved the food, service, and wall art
Delicious food and drinks
Not crowded or noisy
Service was really poor.
We arrived on time at 7:15. Restuarant was maybe a third occupied, and yet it was ten minutes before we got menus and could order a drink. We ordered oysters on the half shell as a starter and they were delivered without cocktail forks. We waited almost ten minutes before we could get our waitress to bring us cocktail forks and she brought us one.
Food was fine, but service got in the way of an enjoyable evening.
This is a cool Village restaurant. The decor is modern but warm & appealing. The service was fast & friendly. They have some delicious creative cocktails. The food was excellent. I recommend the lamb chops. They were cooked to perfection. Overall, dining here is a very nice experience.
Food was very good. Tasty pasta and good burger. Tots were good too. Service was a letdown in terms of speed, but at least they were apologetic and comped us a side. Would return again, but not amazing.
Burrata was phenomenal. Prices are pretty high for the bigger portions of pasta (which aren’t enormous), but the flavors were very good- I’d get the pastas again but in smaller portions. Brussel sprout leaves were chilled and not fried, which was interesting (and unexpected), but were tasty and a nice contrast to the main courses.
Good food and great service. The portion size of my lamb was small and the wine list is limited.
Excellent spot for a special occasion. We are big fans of the steak and the duck fat tots.
Lively place with blaring music that made it hard to hear each other. This place is definitely for the much younger, trendier set and not older folks such as us. Food and service were just okay.
Lively atmosphere. Service was nice, but even our server couldn't hear us. I grew up in NYC and have seen trends come and go but the noisy vibe is just lost on me. There's a way to have a balance between pin drop quiet and a stadium shrill. The food was decent. Prices were outrageous for what was brought to the table. Think it's more of a drinks with a dish or two ,not a full meal.
Food is mediocre and many better options in the neighborhood. Terrible value. The steamed vegetables were comically lacking in size and amount.
Everything is always great at the Loyal. Wines by the glass are thoughtful and all good. I have yet to order anything that is prepared well and tasty. Staff is fantastic - thank you, again, for a really nice meal on a rainy Monday:)
The place was lively and energetic. We were there to celebrate our birthdays and we were greeted at our table with a personalized birthday message. Very nice touch. We both enjoyed the duck special cooked two ways, roasted and confit which was amazing along with inventive side vegetable dishes. Our waiter was attentive and professional. He made us feel right at home. We would definitely return.
Server was indifferent, if not rude. He couldn’t be bothered with us. Zero engagement with our table. Never checked on our entrees after they were served.
Menu is either recreates if other establishments’ dishes (spicy pork rigatoni, every in the now Italian joint has a version), or excessively/trying too hard dishes (Asian eggs).
This was our first shot here. Will not return, ever.
I love good food and drink and am happy to pay for it, but when you walk out of a $100+ per person dinner still hungry, something is wrong. Overpriced, noisy, small portions and nothing to write home about.
I picked this place for brunch because I had been by and thought it might be quiet. (I went with someone with hearing issues) It was actually quite loud. However, the service and food were great and I loved my table. I would go back again for dinner to see what that's like.
Had a great meal.
I think The Loyal is a bit more impressed with itself than I was. My server was functional, but terse, not to the point of rudeness, but if a robot could have been trained to do her job, it would have done it with more grace. I read the reviews saying how small the portions were, but I wasn't prepared for micro portions at macro prices. The lamb chops were good, but the 2 that were on my plate were tiny. And the roasted vegetables that came with it were over-roasted, and spicy hot! The menu said nothing about that. I ordered a cocktail that was about $17 I think, and it was basically 3 or 4 sips. I wasn't looking for a cheap meal, but I was looking for some value for what I paid. Had the service been even a little warmer or more inviting, I could almost forgive the snack sized portions. But there was really nothing here to warrant a $130 bill for one person, for what amounted to two tapas, one cocktail, and one glass of wine.
Food was awesome and our waiter was so friendly and funny!! They had great music going the whole time too. Would come here if you’re looking for a fun brunch experience without getting too crazy.
They did a wonderful job for my wife’s birthday. Would highly recommend it.
food was good, not excellent. drinks are pricey. would go back again bc restaurant very pretty and location very central to 1, b, and c trains.
Great lighting, good food, excellent service
Food was creative and good. My meat entree was a bit undercooked but still delicious. Nice ambiance- would definitely recommend for date or friends group Dinner.
Dinner was very super overpriced and the food was terrible. The Squid Ink Spaghetti was way too salty and the vegetables that came with the Peanut Miso Chicken were overcooked, unseasoned, and sad. The only good thing about our meal was the cocktails. Overall would not recommend.
First the hostess kept me waiting to check in while she took care of paperwork. When she finally addressed me, I was told to wait for my table because my dining partner was just outside. Rather than keep me waiting at the host stand while she takes care of paperwork, why not take care of the customer in front of you waiting?
Then the fried chicken sandwich which the restaurant is known for, isn’t available for dinner-only after 10PM. You know, because that’s when everyone wants a fried chicken sandwich. Finally we were told the kitchen wouldn’t cut our burger in half for us but that they’d bring a knife for us to do it at the table. I thought the point of restaurant dining was to have someone else do all the meal prep?
Solid top to bottom. Consistent. Always in our rotation.
Our waitress was awesome and the food was amazing. We had an early reservation and when we arrived the restaurant was empty. Our food took an unusually long time considering the amount of people who were dining. However just as I was about to inquire (complain), our food arrived and the wonderful service and attentiveness continued. We had the make your own sundae for dessert and no surprise, it was perfect. I would definitely recommend The Loyal to family and friends and can't wait to go back.
